The Race Manager answer is
John Love

Thanks

I answered it for you when you asked yesterday! :(

John Love!

sorry didn't catch your reply :( Thanks :)

How far off do you live from Bahrain anyway? Wouldn't it be safer just to go to the Abu Dhabi GP?

Abu Dhabi is boring, and I don't have friends there.

Jerk is in Bahrain? Stay safe man.

Not yet, tomorrow I'll go. I hope I'll be able to make it to the grid walk

Don't worry, he's not the only jerk there.

I love Bahrain, very nice people over there. Didn't go since the protests happened though

Bernie wants "Grand Slam" races.
A couple events where you get more points for winning the race (eg Monaco), compared to other races (eg Korea).

Could be interesting, imagine double points at Spa, Monaco, Monza and Suzuka. Maybe Silverstone too.

In 2008, Bernie suggested punishing drivers with yellow and red cards for penalties. If the driver has amassed a certain amount of yellow cards he will be banned from the next race.

In 2010, he suggested switching to medals to crown the champions. The driver with the most gold medals (wins) would be champion, not the driver with the most points - under the current points system.

I'm for this idea.

Monaco should be one of those events, so should suzuka. Spa cant be since it will alternate with the french gp.

love the idea.

anyhow never thought the ban on the blown diffuser woul hit rbr this hard. =(

their race is pretty good but they are slow on the straights and horrible at qualifying.

Hah what's the betting on race tracks that get "Grand Slam" status having to pay more to Bernie.

I don't like the idea of some tracks rewarding more points. The prestige of winning at Monaco etc already makes it a special event on the calendar. I think the points should be even throughout the year.

Yeah, like... maybe drivers would maybe want to win even more if there's bonus points? Get your hand off it, Bernie.

Yes! Bahrain GP! I just bought tickets for me and my wife, we're staying at our friend's place. It's called Barbar, double Bars how bad could that be?! :D .. I kid , it's one of the hottest villages according to him on Bodayea road

Can't wait! He told me to be prepared for tear-gas and shit.. this is gonna be exciting..
Now let's hope we'll see Kimi's first podium of the season, eh?

Its going to be one of those years for Schumi isn't it?

I sure hope so. :)

The fog's getting thicker.

I actually think that haze is pollution. It looked the same last year and that region is well known for being quite smoggy.

Ouch, once Kimi slipped a bit it all fell apart.

It's amazing how many places you can lose simply by falling out of your rhythm. You see it happen in Formula Ford races all the time.

I can't decide which one of these I like better.

Pilots with zero points:

HRT
Marussia
Caterham
Massa

That might be the most impressive stat I've seen in years.

Lewis does seem happier this year, he's infinitely more likeable now too.

I recently watched Racing With The Hamiltons and it rekindled my love for Lewis. I just hope he continues to have success this season because his moodiness last year was almost intolerable.

What is the "yellow drink" they have during the post race interview?

It's basically just a fancier version of Gatorade. It has a bunch of electrolytes and nutrients in it to help revitalize the drivers.

Protesters in Bahrain setting fire to a large F1 billboard...

It may get a little messy next weekend.

I really hope the organizers/police do a good job of background checking the marshalls and securing access to the track. If this race gets red-flagged because of protests, I'm going to be really pissed.

So if someone enters the track in the middle of the race, your only worry is a stupid red flag?

mclaren, that was a throwaway comment about the smog. The correct response would've been, "And Larry's getting larger!"

Yep. I don't give a rip about the protesters and I'll be far less likely to care about their cause if they act like idiots this weekend. Just because they're unhappy with the situation they find themselves in, doesn't give them the right to ruin things for other people.

Also, this is for whoever makes the finger GIFs...

Holy shit this is mind boggling.

Surely...surely that's sarcasm, it must be. Mind cannot fathom that not being sarcasm, must be sarcasm...please tell me that's sarcasm.

What an ignorant, uneducated human being you are.

It's a situation for them to get international attention for their protest.

As Bernie mentioned all they have to do is block the roads going to the track. Of course they wouldn't ingratiate themselves to formula 1 fans but everyone would quickly understand and learn about what's happening in the country.

@Jerk: I'm really happy that you're going and I wish you the best and safe of journey's around Bahrain, but part of me can't help but be frustrated that you'd justify Bernie's decision to take F1 to a country that shouldn't have it right now. Nevertheless, enjoy yourself.

This won't end well I fear, fucking stupid of the FIA to let this go ahead. Do the teams have to race? This shouldn't go ahead, the situation in Bahrain seems extremely unstable, and what if team members get hurt or killed? Bernie and the FIA will have blood on their hands, which will damage the sport's reputation immensely. If Bernie only wants money, shouldn't he think long term
or until the bastard finally dies anyway
? This could make F1 unattractive for sponsors if something happens...

IDK, I'm just talking out my ass, politics isn't exactly my strongest side.

You're mirroring everyone's thoughts here I feel.

Talking to my friend about it I mentioned if anything happens this weekend I hope it's another punch to Bernie's face.

Do you honestly believe that? How could you possibly blame FOM/FIA for the idiotic behavior of protesters? Even if you left it to the teams, I'm pretty sure they would choose to participate in this race (assuming the event organizers can keep the peace) so I see no reason to get upset with FOM/FIA.

Well for one, the FIA made the decision to be there. Secondly, pretty much everyone asked has said they don't want to go. They want to race, but they don't want to be there. They're under contract to go though, the whole argument of Bernie's, "I won't force teams to go" is BS.

The people have every right to protest against an oppressive government. besides, it was the FIA who were tasked with deciding if it was safe to race or not. They knew what the situation was like, and the teams placed their trust in the FIA. So, yes, if team personell is hurt, the FIA will be (partly) to blame, even if it isn't them who physically do the damage, they are the reason the teams are here.

I know my reasons combined with my english don't exactly make for the best arguments, but I'm just stating my opinion, which you are free to do as well.

Video of rosberg explaining the seating position in f1. Even though ive always known they are basically lying down its really strange to see the position without any bodywork.

Tangential question...

While on the pre-race grid in China, Mercedes mechanics handed Schumacher what appeared to be hand-operated pumps that plugged into the area around his headrest. Does anybody know what that system is for? I assumed it was some kind of bladder for the driver seat but I wasn't sure.

I'll try to find a picture...

Edit: no luck, but I did find this...

What an incredibly daft decision.

Nice video with Rosberg, I too knew they were laying down but didn't realize how high the legs went up this year.

edit: Kaizor your argument is coherent and well thought out, no worries.

The people have every right to protest against an oppressive government.

Perhaps, but they don't have a right to harm people or trespass on private property.

Here's a comment from Bahrain's Information Affairs Authority this morning...

No person will be arrested for merely protesting. Demonstrations have been ongoing this week and there will be more to go. So long as they follow the proper procedure and they don’t infringe upon anybody else’s rights, those will be fine.

I don't think the government has an unreasonable stance on this matter. Do you?
