My favorite .GIF you ever created so far :D

Great OP - looking forward to this season, and hope it's exciting.

What are the engine changes for this season? Max size, cylinders and are turbos back in? I heard something along these lines last year, but don't know if that was deferred another year.

Far too many sponsors these days, I'll always prefer these minimal, iconic designs that drivers stuck with throught their careers and made them instantly recognisable.

Can you guys please help me with a project?

I'm trying to estimate the price of full-weekend general admission tickets for the Austin GP and I've come up with a weird way of accomplishing it. Below you'll find a link to a Google Doc (quote this post to see the URL, but please don't make it public) and I'd like you to help me fill in the general admission prices for all 20 races. Perhaps if we each "sponsored" a country, that would make it easier for all of us.

And if you can't find ticket info for 2012, please look at prior years and use your best judgement. And please convert currency to USD before inputting the data.

I didn't expect Montreal to be lower on the list. More reason I need to talk the wife into a trip and combining it with visiting her sister and fam in Toronto.

Yeah, you can really see his passion for it in F1 The Killer Years. He seems like just a great guy to spend time around too. I need to go back and watch the Top Gear with him teaching Capt Slow to drive faster.

Ended up reading this http://f1-dictionary.110mb.com/safety.html
F1 sure is way safer than it used to be (although you can never really prevent fatalities from happening).

When watching footage from the 70s and before, it really astonishes me that there was no such thing as a red flag; cars kept on racing, making it very difficult for marshals to do their jobs safely. Just look at this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=m8qnieWKLGA#t=16s How is that fire marshal supposed to douse the fire properly with racing cars in between?

He just doesn't give a fuck about anything does he?

Ugh, so many people don't get him. If you listened to his interview and other interviews he has given one of the main reasons he left Formula One is because of the circus surrounding it. That's why he left for WRC where there are less egos and drama. Plus, there was a helicopter he was looking at haha :-)

I was surprised to see that that scar on his wrist was actually that big from the operation though. This'll be the last time I talk about Top Gear as last time I received a one-month vacation from NeoGAF... ;)

I am excited though to see all the recent pictures from the different teams! So close!

Edit:

Whoops, I had the second page open from this morning and I forgot to refresh so my post is a bit out of line and out of date. Continue on!

Oh no don't take that the wrong way. I mean that he doesn't give a fuck about his replies and seems to be not care about showing his disinterest. Awesome.

No chance. Will be at least $200 I reckon.

I'd be fine with between $400 and $500 for the entire weekend depending on what the support schedule looks like. If it is JUST F1 then I would hope prices wouldn't be that high.

Tickets need to go on sale already though, so I can buy them and set my vacation block before others get to it in November.

Gah, I cannot take anymore of this. Just start already. The first free practice session will start at 01:30 am - my local time. Sleep is so overrated. :)

EDIT: Here are the schedule for the Australian GP on GMT time:

Free Practice 1 - 01:30
Free Practice 2 - 05:30
Free Practice 3 - 03:00
Qualifying - 06:00
Race - 06:00

I'm not going to get much sleep this weekend... on the plus side, F1!

Just over 3 days to FP1...

Hehe, same here. Oh, and just so that you guys have an idea, here's the schedule for the Malasian GP:

Free Practice 1 - 02:00
Free Practice 2 - 06:00
Free Practice 3 - 05:00
Qualifying - 08:00
Race - 09:00

Should have specified that I was talking about general admission. $500 sounds reasonable for a 3 day grandstand ticket.

Don't know about support races though, did Indianapolis ever have any?

Its a shame that SKY cant be viewed freely like BBC can [ bbc-player.com ]. I dont want to watch some crappy web streams live...

Not sure about the US, but when I went to Canada Ferrari Challenge was the only support race.

And an example of Winning Is Not Enough is on it`s way from the UK to a flat in central Stockholm, capital of Sweden.

To add to Andy's suggestion; Sid Watkins' Life at the Limit: Triumph and Tragedy in Formula One is fascinating reading for anyone interested in the great professor's memoirs.

His appointment after the tragic deaths of Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Tom Pryce and the marshall Frederik Jansen Van Vuuren made a significant difference to the sport.

Remember, we're talking about "general admission" here, every single race on the calendar charges around $125 for such a ticket.
Gives you access to all areas except grandstands, which are between $200 and $500.

I rather like the simplicity of Hulkenberg's design.

2012 Helmet Designs
Wow, JB's is HORRID. And I believe Goldrusher is right. Webber said he'd have a similar helmet to last year, but it would have more of an Australian flavour to it. Whether that means the flag or (oh please, please, please) something like the boxing kangaroo, I don't know.
I think I like de la Rosa's and Hulk's the best, though.
