The Nurburging was only recently bought out by new investors stopping it from going completely bankrupt. They've had to deal with paying off the insane debt the track had already built up; I am absolutely on their side for not giving in to Bernie's demands, and also to Mercedes for not footing the bill.
I don't really care for the Hockenheim circuit, and though I won't bother finding the numbers, I'm going to guess Hockenheim had a lower turnout than the Nurburgring. Or at the very least, I can't recall a year when I watched a race at Hockenheim and didn't notice how empty the stadium section was.
