Embargoed until 12:01AM (I'm assuming PST). Someone might have an exclusive and have it up earlier.

PC Gamer had the exclusive last month. 94% if I recall though I don't have the issue on me right now.

I wonder how Steam is going to handle the load tonight...

:lol

I'm going to laugh if it's crushed under the pressure.

No waiting for me.

:lol I bought HL2, the boxed copy - and I still couldn't play for fucking hours because simply unlocking the game was impossible since their servers were hammered.

I'll be playing it first thing in the morning. I'm too weaksauce to stay up to 3am. But i'll be up at 7am. I'm very interested in Portal atm.

You still have to decrypt the files, and to do so, steam connects to a server and asks for the key.

On Half Life 2 release day, that server went down after a few hours, which left lots of people not being able to decrypt their files.

I beleive the bioshock release was also plagued by similar problems, but the servers didn't actually went down, just got slow as hell.

I believe today won't be any different.

Uh Vavle. When will you let me buy EP2 seperatly? Have you seriously forgotten all of us which already own HL2 + Ep1, or are you hoping we will buy HL2 + E1 once again? :lol

In the case of BioShock they also held back a final percentage of the code so there was still some downloading to do come release time.

So, since there have been patches and actual gameplay changes to TF2 since it went gold, will Valve be updating the 360 version with the same changes (see:uberpyro)?

It's listed on Steam with a standalone price of $29.95.

Playing devil's advocate here, but...

Portal costs 19.95
Episode 2 costs 29.95
Team Fortress 2 costs 29.95

that's 79.85. The orange box costs 49.95 (44.95 with 10% discount on pre-order) and you also get half life 2 and half life 2 episode 1 as a bonus.

It's not really a matter of "they should remove half life 2 and half life 2 episode 1 from the package so i can pay cheaper". It's more a matter of "this box comes with a 30 usd discount and free half life 2 and episode 1!".

It's like the orange box is 3 games (portal, team fortress 2 and half life episode 2) for the price of one game, and you get another two games as a free bonus (even tho you probably already have them).

I personally think it's a great deal. I already had HL2 and Episode 1 and i bought the orange box. I had a little 2 minutes breakdown (BUT I ALREADY HAVE HALF LIFE 2 AND EPISODE 1! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME VALVE?), but then i noticed: it's three games for the price of one.

But yeah, black box should have been made avaliable on steam.

Ever heard of live and patch downloading?

Okay, playing on the 360:

I had to turn the sensitivity up. The controls felt too floaty. Played HL2 on PC.

Graphically I think it's very pretty. I'm wish there was a little more AA, but whatever, the image is almost immaculate. The animation is great so far.

I love alyx.

LOVE the scenario design so far.

Did increasing the sensitivity fix the problem or are you still missing the PC controls?

i hate you.

impression on tf2 please.:D

Yep. I ordered back in August since they had a 5 dollars off deal. I got it a few hours ago.

The controls are still a little more floaty than I'm accustomed to. The weight that Halo 3 has isn't there, but HL2 is a faster playing game. I would have played on PC if this was three years ago and I had a good PC. But I think the 360 version is by no means bad!

I will say that I'm in the
antlion tunnels
that they've showned on the 1up show and it is kind of scary as hell. I hate those things.

I'm not crazy about the weapon select wheel. Though I do like that the weapon comes up right as you move to it. For some reason I was remembering HL2 as like, scroll to the weapon and then hit a confirmation button.

This is really a masterful example of linear game design. Linearity is not bad. Thank you Valve.

buncha cunts playing this on the 360 and earlier too

You know who's playing Orange Box right now? Smart X360 owners. You know who's not? Double D dumb as dog shit PC gamers.

Consoles win.

Steam loses.

Anyway WTF stop playing HL2 which is old and start playing Portal which is new and impress that.

Have class at 4 and I need to be studying vocabulary. But....

lulz this is REALLY good. Like, REALLY good.

The little set piece I'm doing now is
defending Alyx against HORDES of antlions as they pour in from these four tunnels. You have two turrets, two helpers, and a bunch of hopper mines that you have to survive. Just as I ran completely out of ammo, the big tunnel lit up with THREE LIGHTS meaning OH MOTHERFUCKING SHIT HERE COMES THE APOCALYPSE. But it was a tribe of vortigaunts coming to help. And then they tore the ant lions a new one. Like utterly destroyed. And some cool music played.

:lol

I am not going to touch portal till I'm done with this. It should only be about 6-8 hours long, right? I can do that in a day or two.

Pretty sure I'll be entirely too busy playing Alan Wake, MGS4 and the like to worry about mods for ancient games.

Fair point. If I were primarily a PC death-matcher, then I'm sure I'd be joining in on the fun.

And that my friends is the most ignorant comment ever posted on GAF.
