"The Freeman Returns" with The Official Orange Box Thread

My point is that it is gimped. The level editor, the SDK, and the community that uses both to create custom content like maps and mods, is as much a part of HL2, TF2, the whole "Source" package, as Episode 1 or Portal. A Half Life game without mods is half a game (tee-hee.)

The Orange Box, as it appears on consoles, is like the first 5 courses of a seven course meal. And it may be satisfying. And you'll tell yourself, "I didn't want the cake, or the after dinner brandy, anyway." But then you'll look over, and see me eating slice after slice after slice, getting all sippy with that brandy, and you'll think, in your animal brain that rejects rationalization, "damn... I want some of that cake."

I don't get why you're fighting that fight though.

Are you saying that you think people SHOULDN'T buy Orange Box, if they're only choice is playing it on a console?

We get it, you know? The PC version is superior. Cool.

I think I'd still like to replay HL2, and play TF2 and the Episodes for the first time. It will have to be on a console this time around though.

Got it on Toronto as well, 360. As for those folks who always inisist on arguing Pc vs Console, nobody gives a shit what you're playing at home cause others have what they want in their home and will enjoy. I can't imagine anyone playing the 360 version saying to themselves while they play......'aww man, I should be playing this on pc, I/m such a loser, I/m totally not having any fun.....' and vice versa.

Okay, let me be perfectly clear.

I'm not rationalizing anything to myself. I know I'm not interested in gaming on a PC, I'm not going to run BootCamp on my MacBook Pro. And I am fully aware of what I'm giving up because of that. I will probably never have access to any mods or custom maps.

But I don't see how that makes Portal or Team Fortress 2, as they exist on the console version of The Orange Box a gimped experience. I'm not saying it's "just as good" or, heaven forfend, even better. But it's not handicapped as the base experience of the game, at all. Sorry, but you'll never be able to convince me of that. To me, that's like saying "Oh, you might have read the last Harry Potter novel but you won't REALLY enjoy it until you read this story about the time Snape totally made out with Ron Weasley's Mom." User created content is just that. And most of the time it's incredibly awesome and flash and fantastic. But unless you're buying something whose entire point is generating user generated content, you're not being robbed of the core gameplay experience. Unless you're implying that Valve will stop/not start working on new maps and classes and just let the community take care of it.

If enough people I know buy the Orange Box on 360, I might just buy it that version as well, seeing as my PC at the moment is barely serviceable.

Yes. You shouldn't buy it for the console. This is your chance. Shake off the yoke of console oppression. Free your fingers from the prison that is dual analog. Open your mind to the possibility of endless gameplay. Endless gameplay.

The choice is yours. Stand or fall. Live or die. Take the money you were going to spend on Master Chief gamerpics and a case of Game Fuel and upgrade your damn PC.

Just stop feeding him. Guess what? I have a computer that can run HL2 at high settings and I'm still not getting it on Steam. Why? Because I'm crazy apparently. :lol I've already played HL2 and Eps. 1, just getting it for Eps. 2, TF2, and Portal. I'm just looking for casual play with some friends on XBL, I could not care less about 60FPS or KB/M for these games. UT3 on the other hand, is a whole different story.

I don't think the PC guys are mature enough to stay out of the console thread even if it happened.
I think you joined the immaturity with the generalization. Fantastic.

Seriously, people that insist on arguing about the platform they are playing on (As if anyone will ever be convinced) should take it to the appropriate thread.

Orange Box - Which Version To Get

It's still on the first page, in your fucking face GAF. How many times does it need to be posted before people stop polluting threads with platform war horseshit?

My laptop is 1.6 GHZ with 512 MB and it runs TF2 when it's not supposed to, considering I have a 32 MB graphics card.

Ok. I may double dip on this. I can't resist PC controls but I also can't resist the fun of playing a game like TF2 with GAFfers on XBL.

So looking at the phenomenal value for money that is the Ownage Orange Box, I have to wonder what in the hell Valve are going to have to bundle with Episode 3 before people will be enticed to buy it.

I skipped Episode 1 as a standalone, because I knew it would get a bundle somewhere down the line (and am glad I did, because of the massive. added. value. but I'm not sure I feel like waiting 5 years for the "all the 3s" (Half Life 3 and Episode 3) bundle.

Likewise, having just finished off Episode 1 for the first time in preparation for playing me some Episode 2, I'm not entirely convinced I would buy it as a standalone (although Ep 2 is supposed to be significantly longer).

As it stands, I'm thinking something along the lines of Natural Selection 2 being bought by Valve and bundled along with it...

It would be awesome if you could get Eps. 3 as downloadable content on 360.

Yeah, I uh, wouldn't hold your breath for that. You'll all be playing on your Playcube 720s or whatever by the time Episode 3 rolls around, knowing Valve.

LOL, well you have me pegged wrong. And a decent portion of the 360 gamerbase I would assume.

I'm a long time PC gamer. I've only owned one console besides the 360 since the SNES, and that was a PS2 for about half a year.

Hell, I even work for a gaming PC company.

Thing is, I just needed to move out of my bedroom where my PC is and game on the comfort of my couch.

I sacrificed the precision controls and mods for that level of comfort. (that and cost)

It was a conscious decision. it was time to take a break from PC gaming. I think there are lots of us out there who settled on the 360, and are very happy with that decision.

Orange Box 360, here I come.

Just so you know, there's plenty of GAF playing TF2 on PC. In fact, we even have two official NeoGAF servers.

I just looked at the front cover of my Orange Box and the large font is in French! Hopefully the game runs in English first!

Im really looking forward to it, I can't believe its taken them over a year to release it though.
