"The Freeman Returns" with The Official Orange Box Thread

You do realize that no one has the slightest interest in anything that you post... right? Since everyone else is ignoring you, I just wanted to be kind and clue you in on the fact. :)

Shhhhhh...don't tell them that. For the rest that have not put the likes of Barnolde on your ignore list, this thread gets 20 times better if you do.:D

Oh and with the HDR effects HL2 360 is now > HL2 PC.

Sorry PC guys, not trying to start a fight, but its true.

Hopefully Valve patches the PC version soon. Super slick.

GOT IT... with some others

I've been playing Peggle all day long. it's one of the best puzzlers I've played, and the 'Extreme' version is fantastic with the HL-themed levels (got it with the pre-purchase yesterday)

I'll be getting the 360 version this month (sort of supporting Valve).

You guys are incredible, really. Spin it all you want, it's not going to change the fact that the PC version is far and away the better version. It's still a 9.5 game since it's such a complete package, but c'mon, 2nd place isn't that bad!
speaking of info that's wrong, your PDZ and Resistance review ring a bell, biased out the ass

And you're as predictable as ever - posting with a clear agenda and bias, and quick to label anyone who disagrees with you as biased themselves.

For the record, PDZ and Resistance scored about the same in my column, as slightly above-average shooters. As far as I'm concerned, I think that's more evidence of lack of bias than anything else - I don't think PDZ is as awful as popularly thought, nor was Resistance as great. A position most review outlets bear out.

Convenient that you'd ignore the relatively glowing reviews I gave to other PlayStation brand games, though, like the 10/10 I gave Persona 3. I guess I'm biased against particular PlayStations, then?

Now for my spoiler comment:
Nice to see everyone else is starting to see you for what you are, Barnolde.

Yup.... I would say that it is still frantic enough vs. the comparision to the PC version. I'd imagine it is going to be pretty good with team play and headsets
Will see you and the other usual suspects on XBL. :D

I'm pretty sure the loading in the 360 is just about the same as the PC version of HL2, except it shows a loading bar.

Same number of loads, in the same locations. Slightly slower than PC, but that's to be expected going from 7200 RPM HDD to 12x DVD (which sometimes reads as slow as 8x on DL discs, right?) for streaming.

Why would you say sorry when it's pretty much a fact? Price and other factors aside, the original HL2 is just better on 360.

Thanks, you are one of the few, honest 360 fans I can believe on this forum.

So basically HL2 360 gfx > HL2 PC gfx and that's AFTER counting in higher-res, AA and AF the PC version offers. Hmm, interesting and well worth buying the console version of Orange Box for.

I hope VALVe gets their shit together and fixes this PC shit soon.

Man, Kabouter is really moving to the dark side, yikes :|

What I don't understnad is why do they need to "fix" it? These features should just be part of the standard package, they shouldn't they be able to just reuse most of what they did for 360 and apply it to PC?!?!?

Haha, don't worry, that isn't even close to the truth.
I just saw the 1up show a few days ago which featured HL2 with the graphical upgrades. Looked absolutely fantastic. Having played HL2 not that long ago, the difference is just huge, the atmosphere is easily superior in the game. Hopefully the PC-version will get patched soon.

Got a nice surprise when I went to go pick up the game today. Recieved $5 off since I pre-ordered. Thanx Valve :D

Me too! And I just put my five dollars down yesterday!

Just made it.

Also, I think this got buried:

I'd play portal after HL2 and EP1, imo. There's a bit of story there (If you look and listen). Though if you haven't played HL1 you're already behind.

Well, yeah, but I've heard I'd do okay without HL1. I managed to avoid spoilidge for BioShock and H3 so I think I'll be able to hold off the throngs and go through the Half Life's first. But if I play portal before Ep 2 I won't miss any references or the connections?

That's what I think also.

Man, imagine how good a "real" Half-Life 3, not running on Source engine, will look.

Well, I heard that gabe suggested Portal before Ep 2. I haven't played EP 2 yet, saving for a marathon tomorrow.

Nope

PC and PS3 Mods, precision with kb/m>>>>>> shitty 360 game pad and lame couch excuse.

We'll get the hdr patch for hl2 eventually. You guys wont get the mod and kb/m.
360 players = owned.

So has Valve added commentary for Half-Life 2 in the 360 version? Or is it still only on Episode 1, 2, Portal and TF2?
That would be really cool...but would also have been a TON of work as HL2 is longer than any of those other games and the new content would only appear on the 360. I don't see how it would have been worthwhile for them to do it.

Meh. I've owned HL2 since 2004 and I never bother with mods. Doesn't mean a thing to me...

The game is out, shouldn't you douchebags be playing instead of warring it up?

We all know which is the superior version, but not everyone has the capability to play it. Less shit talking, more cake.

I'd bet dollars to donuts all participants, like me, are at work.

I tried this angle yesterday and got raped. Next time, I'll enter the melee with plug firmly in place.

I like how Tekno can't resist one last, passing blow before giving us the "rah rah" speech. :D

Anyone with the Steam version having frame rate/performance issues with Episode 2? HL2 and Episode 1 run great on my machine, but Episode 2 is running like complete ass. I checked all the settings but nothing seems to help much.

As of right now, I'm really wishing I could get a refund on the Steam version so I could get the 360 version instead. :(

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

I heard Garry's mod is ace.
I've witnessed some of its results via screenshots but have never taken interest in using it myself. I still don't know what the point is.

I used to eat this kind of stuff up, but over time, I just can't bring myself to care about custom content anymore. With my limited gaming time, I'd rather play something professional (I know, I know)...

It's nice to see the community doing such things, though, and I fully understand why people list it as such a huge feature. I can bring so much to the game.

I've been playing Orange Box for the past 3 hours or so and I must say, it's definitely an awesome pack. Team Fortress 2 plays as good as I thought, and Portal has some very nicely done puzzles. Everyone needs to get this game.

I just played Episode 2 for a bit and there is an absolutely hilarious scene (actually it isnÄt really a spoiler)

G-Man is walking through the picture for like a minute and no one notices :lol

What job pays you to be troll it up on the innerweb? Is there dental?

You could at least talk about the game and not the platform crap. Because it's oh so good.

Hey, I absconded to that other thread with the Warz boolshit long ago, when Ibex still roamed the Dakota Plains.

(Were Ibex ever known to habitate in North America? Good question....)

Okay fine. I haven't been this excited about a game since Bioshock! No really, I'm excited, just grumpy at work.

Seriously though, does anyone think The Orange Box will be excluded from any Best of awards because it's essentially a game that was already released?

Plenty. It's a tough call, but the games themselves are such high quality (it seems) that individual games will certainly get their own recognition, as it should be. "The Orange Box" is not a singular game.

I hope they get properly recognized, but I think if the games are recognized individually, they'll lose out to other titles because of their brevity and age.

After beating them all I was feeling like each individual game was essentially a potential GOTY for me, by themselves.

That they are all included in one package, is just, unheard of, man.

I'm stuck here at work for sure... I'll be looking forward to playing this for a long while. I get paid a very nice salary though while I am at work though... enough to buy me a video game, or 2, or 100 if I want.

I thought Valve was going to issue a patch soon on PC. My PC won't run HL2 well after the patch. But if you have a more powerful PC you are in for a treat. It'll be just as good as the X360 version then. Well, better I guess because key and mouse is still a superior control scheme for FPS. At least the game is playable on 360, which is all I can ask since my PC can't cut it at the moment.

HL2 is one of my top 5 favorite FPS. PC or 360, don't really care where someone plays it, but the game must be played as it is great.

I'm hoping this is a joke post. I have 3+ AAA games lined up to play and no time to play them. I could care aless about MODs and online play, to me it's all about single player.

If you are playing it on 360, I would recommend to boost the sensitivity like Y2Kev suggested.

It defaults about 1/4 full, and that is way too slow.

I boosted mine up to about 3/4 full on the sensitivity bar and it feels much better. Fast and quick paced like Half Life 2 should be.

The cake was a lie. :(
