UT3 and CoD4 bundle?! Other than that, I don't think the 5 AAA games of The Orange Box are going down without a fight.

Well, if UT3 has a mode that can accurately predict winning lottery numbers....

So I came in really quick to chime in and say this is my first experience with the Half-Life universe and damn is it a good experience so far! I loved BioShock and Halo 3 but if this thing keeps geting better as it goes on (just made it to Ravenholm) then this may end up being my personal game of the year.
:lol :lol :lol :lol
its your game of the year.

is this a spoiler?

It could be if you go through and follow those instructions.

I don't know, it only tells you the history of the company, and it was the first time I've heard it. (Even though I played through Portal last night)

after some time with TF2, that is awesome

after beating Portal, that is a 10/10 amazing game, seriously awesome.

will play episode 2 after I finish up ep 1.

I've already played through Half-Life 2 (bought off of Steam for a gaming PC I no longer have) but that was three years ago! So needless to say when I get The Orange Box for Playstation 3 I will start from scratch right at HL2 and go through the episodes. Man, what a freaking great package.

boy, are you in for a surprise.

I sat down and played portal first, because after the disappointing Half Life: Episode 1, I had very little interest in Episode 2. Portal was brilliant, and for the very short time it takes to beat the game, I was having one of the best Single Player moments I can remember for a long while.

Then I loaded Episode 2. Portal was 10/10 material, but Episode 2 just blew me away. I had more 'wow' moments in this game than all of Half Life 2 put together. It's not right to call anything perfect. Nothing is perfect. But damn it, I can't fault Episode 2 at all. The game is beautiful, technically and artistically. The gameplay was at times intense. The locations were diverse and interesting, and the story...damn, I think now that episode 2 is out, I can say that the Half Life series has to be the best storyline to come out of a FPS. I actually care about the characters, which is a rare thing in a computer game. The Orange box has to be the best purchase I've ever made in software. HL:ep2, Portal, Team Fortress are just quality++.

Damn, I'm picking mine up after work...unfortunately, I can't open it till Sunday. I'm pre-buying my 3 games from TRU today and returning/re-buying that shit on Sunday. I'd be tempted to open it sooner, but I like saving money.

just beat portal and my word, i could not stop giggling to my self and had goosebumps at the same time awed by its awesomeness.

It really is amazing how much better Ep2 is than Ep1. I was losing interest in the series, regrettably, but this has completely restored my faith in Valve.

I'm surprised at how many
striders
they make you fight. The new enemy is the most annoying bitch ever, but damn if it isn't fun to
run over their fucking annoying asses.

PIISSHHAHAWWw

Having so much fun with the orange box, easily my game of the year. Just hope the lag gets its kinks works out in TF (360 version can get really really laggy sometimes).

I can't believe this game is out already (in the States at least) - such a sweet package and already out...

I got exams, Halo 3 and PGR4 (tomorrow) to keep me tied up, but man do I want this package so bad - especially for Team Fortress 2 - I'll see what I do next week when it comes out in the EU...

Oh? That's great to know!

Now to see where I can import for cheap to the EU...

Anyone know why 5.1 sound isn't working in hl2 for me?

I updated the soundcard driver, vista is set for 5.1, and the game lets me select 5.1.

However, not a single peep has come out of the rear speakers.

Edit: NM, fixed it. There's a second speaker config setup in vista that got defaulted to 2.1 after the driver update.

I've only played a few hours of Ep2 so far, but daaaaamn good stuff. So nice to have a new Half-life game ever 1-2 years.

Couldn't possibly agree more. Just finished Ep2...and just...god damn. Valve are absolutely on another plane from any other single player FPS developer. Nobody else is even in the ballpark.

Gotta go back and finish portal now...

Anyway..some more thoughts on Ep2...beware maytey...thar be (big) spoilers ahead

That ending...easily the biggest cliffhangar since the original soul reaver. I absolutely can't wait for Episode 3/Half-Life 3/ whatever comes next. Is episode 3 supposed to end it? If so, I don't see how they could wrap it all up in 5 hours or so. It's just got too many loose ends to tie up. Whatever they do next I can't wait. The next installment is going to REALLY test Valve's characterization chops. It's going to be tough to keep Alyx going after her dad died. Also I have a feeling that's going to be a tough emotion to nail for them. If anyone is up to the task, it's Valve though.

I was a little dissapointed by the lack of a Gunship battle. Those were my favorite part of HL2 and Ep1, so I'm dissapointed that there isn't one.

Overall though, easily better than Episode 1.

Just finished Episode 2 and I must say HOLY FUCKING SHIT. That was awesome, Episode 1 is an embarassment by comparison. They hit every nail perfectly, such a great variety in levels, MUCH improved npc chatter, Magnusson is the kinda character the series needed, I think they may have gone over enemy ai a little as well seemed better. So many different set pieces and variety in what you have to do crammed into a nice little playtime of just under 6hours. I'd say it offered more variety in levels and ideas than HL2 did. They just got everything spot on. It also looks pretty damn good at 1680x1250 4xaa 8xaf everthing high with no fps problems (although its more a hog that the previous two)

And omg lol it was Magnusson's dinner in the microwave in Black Mesa :lol :lol :lol

Interesting how they decided
to bring the ship back, it was originally going to be in HL2, now its got a real purpose and opens up a brand new game mechanic if it goes the way I think it might

I called Portal my GOTY earlier, but I may have to give the honor to Episode 2 now. Valve puts other developers to shame. They're just on a whole other level.

I don't remember this, what was that about?

After u learn to use the Magnusson bombs he says to you that if you pull this off he might forgive you for the Black Mesa incident, you know the one involving my microwave casserole. This is a direct reference to the microwave in HL1 in the mess area b4 u get the suit, you can blow up the food pissing off a scientist.

So what's the verdict on the 360 version?
From the little bit i played before the game broke my 360, the original Half Life 2 looks basically like a pc port with the added effects, as i suspected. I dont know where IGN got that xbox port. Also the analog sensitivity adjustments help a lot with controls.

:lol I saw your comment earlier, and how you were just starting Episode 2, and I kept thinking, this guy is going to change his mind after he plays Episode 2! I think a lot of people weren't expecting much from Episode 2, mainly due to the fact that Episode 1, while a great game for a lot of people, it wasn't a excellent game. It was basically A New Hope, while Episode 2 is The Empire Strikes Back, full of fucking awesome and win! Light years better!

Yes, SO much Half-Life 2 to start playing. YES YES

I just got to
where you have to take down the chopper, then deal with a roadblock while the car gets fixed

This game is dripping with so much awesome. The Antlion nest was fucking gorgeous and getting
chased by the Guardian was intense

Is my game broken?
The Vorg tells me to activate the elevator "so we may reconvene" but when I throw the switch it does nothing. It just reverts back to where it was.

You need to get a circular gear thingy, its in the water)

If you look closely at the mechanism, there is a gear missing. Look around for a gear to put on the machine.

I dont get why I have artifacts in HL2 ep1+2 and Portal, but not in TF2.

it isnt so annoying when a box is all stretched out, but when Alyx looks like she is wearing a crown, that is weird.
