"The Freeman Returns" with The Official Orange Box Thread

The 360 version is not out till the 18th in Australia, and it's the one I'll be playing (not out of preference — I only have the Mac at home. I need a new PC!). The wait is going to kill me!

I've never played Half Life 2 so I am stoked for its release. Portal and TF2 are just that much more delicious gravy. Thanks for releasing this multi-platform, Valve <3.

Portal Complete.

What a fine puzzle game. So awesome. Will definitely be playing through again. Inertia puzzles > *

Can anyone give more info about TF2 360 slowdown, is it so bad its unplayable at times or just annoying?
Wait for the reviews, they should be here any time now. But im pretty sure it isnt a problem, or else the 1up guys wouldnt have said how smooth it was, and instead said how choppy it was.

I'm guessing its not the game or server, but the game reacting to P2P hiccups.

So from what I understand, the PC version has achivements? So they'll show up on my 360 gamercard? I've never played a PC game that has them so I'm not sure how it works. If that's true, then fuck the 360 version.

I'm curious about this as well.
I have 360 version but for TF2 am interested in swapping for PC version now.

Achievements, Yes.

STEAM COMMUNITY ONES though.

IGN : "Half-Life 2 was given a resolution bump, but little else for 360, but Ep. 2 is absolutely stunning."

"Lastly, the visuals are not as good as they should be on 360. This is clearly a port of the original Xbox version. The resolution has been kicked up, the textures are better, and the framerate is solid save a few random moments."

I dont get it, did IGN smoke too much crack to notice the HDR, motion blur, lighting systems added to the game? How is that a port of the xbox 1 version?

Now, are there any achievements for EP2 in Steam? Or is it just for TF2?

I haven't heard anything about that actually, but I would think so, as I heard Valve are adding TF2-like stats and community features to other games.

The 360 version keeps track of how many more objectives you need to complete in order to get an achievement. Pretty good stuff and you don't see that in many games.

Yeah, the only other 360 game I can think of is Crackdown that does this

I was wondering the same thing..

Steam Community achievements do this too, it's nice.

They also ding TF2 for not having bots and say that Hydro isn't a good map (it's one of best out of the 6).

Another shit review by IGN.

thats what i was thinking, IGN flops again :lol

I do like :

"While Portal and TF2 may not be strong enough to stand on their own, coupled with the Half-Life titles, The Orange Box really is one of the best games ever released."

Might be a dumb question, but is Lost Coast included in the Orange Box?
No, and its been mentioned about 100 times in this thread FYI

Not that it matters, its a one level, barely 15 min demo.

Even though I know the 'no bots' thing is a shitty argument, I can at least understand it.

Cannot fucking understand how anyone could not like Hydro.

As with the PC version, there are mid-level loads that halt the action. Unlike on PC, these loads are not a few seconds, but often 30 seconds to a full minute. This is especially aggravating when a load comes during a high-speed chase. Lastly, the visuals are not as good as they should be on 360. This is clearly a port of the original Xbox version. The resolution has been kicked up, the textures are better, and the framerate is solid save a few random moments. But it could look much better (as Episodes One and Two prove). Even compared to the PC version from three years ago, the visuals for HL2 on 360 aren't stellar.
So if it's not as good, why does it also get a 9.5 like the PC one?

That should shut up the futile Xbot resistance and send them back to their big, comfy couches. PC game is better on PC, shock and awww!

WTF is this bs IGN is saying that the original HL2 on 360 is merely a port of the original xbox version and "doesn't look as good as it should"

....guess we'll find out tommorow

The only thing I hated about HL2 was the loading. Especially when the game first game out, I actually avoided playing it because of that. It really sucks when your pulled out of the immersion with a black loading label on the screen. Still, they must be doing something right because I can't wait, and honestly, I wouldn't mind if games had HL2 level graphics forever because the game looks and plays great.

I didn't notice IGN saying anything about controls either and everyone else i read says its "floaty" so i don't know how much of the IGN review to believe.

so half life 2 alone got 9.7 but the orange box gets 9.5

another thing i notcied

xbox 360
Lasting Appeal 10
Playing through all three pieces of Half-Life 2 and Portal is at least 20 hours

pc
Lasting Appeal 9.5
Around 30 hours of single player gaming (if you include HL2 and Ep 1, which we are)

I'm betting 2am PST :lol valve

Was thinking about setting up bets for when it will get unlocked after waiting for Ep 1 and TF2 beta, but if you double click on portal and Ep 2 a count down clock will appear.

4 hrs to go!
