It is silly.

It's especially silly when you consider that THIS, outside of the BAFTAs, is supposed to be /the/ respectable awards show.

They really need to split it into an awards event and a reveal event. I don't think anyone would complain, they could even run them consecutively. It's just silly having an opening crawl talking about how meaningful games are and how much they're maturing as media and then having this weird two hour advertisement.

Just run commercials, and instead of commercials you do the reveals. Then come back to the main stage as if you're coming back from commercials at say the Oscars and on to the awards.

They need intro and outros and sectioning the marketing off from the awards show, so it makes sense.
