The Game Awards 2024 Nominees List Announcement

I'm more excited with new game announcement and new trailer. When it comes to the award, I don't care that much , but I'm still happy Stellar blade receive two nominations for best action game and best music but the game truly deserves GOTY nominatio. I love Elden ring, but for me, Erdtree should not be qualified and Stellar blade should have taken its place.

What a joke of a list, why don't they make DLC of the Year and Remake of the Year? I ain't taking the TGA serious though since last year. How you want any of us to take this seriously when you put Elden Ring DLC in there?

Plus with making the event so late for Europe, nobody is ain't watching that if they gotta work the next day man.

I ain't tuning in, so I'll just watch the trailers in the next morning after waking up and get my daily workout in.

Looking at the nominations list is weird compared to 2023. Multiple 2023 titles I'll replay. I don't think there's a single 2024 game I'll play a 2nd time. Kind of a forgettable year, for me.

Too many categories to comment on so just going to pick the first one - game of the year
  • Astrobot: way too easy, this is a borderline a kids game. Few cool mechanics but nothing fully explored, no way this comes close to Mario Odyssey which had so much stuff to do and was very finely tuned to give a nice easy to complete, hard to master experience, Mario Odyssey also had much tighter integration of its mechanics in the gameplay/gameworld.
  • Balatro: cool title, nice twist on Poker but clearly an indie title and shouldn't be on this list. My indie game of the year is Animal Well. I'm not a fan of RNG.
  • Black Myth Wukong: A sweeping orchestra, a project full of passion. Great artwork, great amount of bosses and enemies, fun, visually cool gameplay, not too punishing like From games (apart from Erlang), mostly appealing to the mass market gamer. The animation work after each chapter and detail on those scripts was amazing, I thoroughly enjoyed this and for me this is GOTY on this list. This is my pick as games should be like this - fun but also tell a cool story and challenging.
  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree: I really love Elden Ring and I liked the DLC as well, I think it's a bit frustrating and kinda forgettable if you compare the DLC with the main game. I think DLC getting nominated is fine as long it's big and chunky like Erdtree.
  • FF Rebirth: I am not really a FF fan - lol, haven't played a single one (apart from FF16 which I hated after the prologue - felt very MMO like). I have no opinions on this as I am waiting for the last part to be out.
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio: I'm not a JRPG fan and this isn't really a game that caters to the mass market gamer but I do like the arstyle and apparently the story is cool so I'll try it someday.
Pretty weak year imo, next year going to be super interesting but I can easily predict the winner - GTA 6 if it does get released, else it'll be a nice competition.

Is Black Myth Wukong the lowest Metacritic rating (~81) ever? How much yuan was deposited into Geoff's account for it?

DLC being able to win GOTY is pretty retarded and I absolutely love Shadow of the Erdtree.

Stellar Blade snubbed, which also blows.

The youtube comments are claiming that Geoff was paid off by Bandai Namco for Elden Ring.

Yes, Bandai Namco.

A small part of me wants to tally how many claims of ‘being paid off’ there will be and from who.

I wish for several of those categories I could NOT vote as my option. Best "social justice" game being one such category. I have never and will never play those games, so why even account for my opinion on it? E-sports and e-celeb categories too. I only remember I voted for the anime girl in the one category full of literal whos.

I can't believe that we had so many good games released this year, and most of them are ignored completely in favor of categories that nobody cares about. They need some better categories in this vote.

Does Stellar Blade really deserve a GOTY nomination? I ask this as a huge simp for that game. As much as I loved the combat, soundtrack, and visuals, that game was really held back by some truly bad dialogue and voice acting, a barebones story, and terrible side quest design. Being nominated for Best Action Game and Best Soundtrack, was realistically the best we could've hoped for. If there was a category for Hottest Piece of Ass, Stellar Blade probably would've had that locked, but sadly this ain't the 90s anymore.

If people can ignore all the problems with other games yet want them for GotY, then I see no problem with Stellar Blade being an option.

The bloat really drags down an otherwise good action game, but even without that I doubt it will be remember with the likes of DMC/3, NG or Bayo 1. The story is terrible but that's largely forgivable in an action game.

Voted for Erdtree, I want more expansions for single player games, improve the base game instead of making new game from scratch with worse gameplay.

I wouldn't be opposed to it being nominated for GOTY, I'm just not surprised at all it didn't make the cut. I wouldn't call it a snub.

It's probably my #2 favorite game of the year despite my complaints.

GTFO with Elden Ring again.
Wukong was legitimately surprising, at least we won't see another anti-woke mob meltdown this time around.

Well, my comment about being paid off was in jest but it doesn't change the fact taht this is one of the lowest rated game to get this honor, maybe the lowest rated game.

Stellar Blade peaks in the linear levels such as the opening (which you can open up further when you return at some point). I found both sandboxes, that both had a similar aesthetic, to be quite a slog. There is also no means of traversal by vehicle, booster or whatever.

Its combat is okay, but ultimately has the same deathtrap as FFXVI; enemies are way too spongy. You need to abuse meters to win quickly. Game was good but some horrendous dialogue, uneven level design, terrible fetch quests and drawn out boss fights bring it down a bit.

I was expecting a much worst list of nominees. For GOTY i would just removed the Elden Ring DLC and add Stellar Blade (My personal GOTY), in my opinion DLC has no place as a game of the Year cuz its not a standalone game, its a DLC, so if they want to reward good DLC, they should make a cathegory for it.

C'mon now Geoff & Co... DLC that requires the base game in order to be experienced nominated for GOTY over titles like Silent Hill 2, Yakuza Infinite Wealth, Unicorn Overlord, Stellar Blade and Tekken 8.

If you want to keep this energy, then where was the GOTY nomination for Phantom Liberty last year, huh?

Remember when everyone said Veilguard would be pushed thru as goty.

Yeah, that was never gonna happen.

Remember when we didn't consider xpak a full game?

Yeah, Elden Ring is gonna win goty again.

I laughed at Dragon Age Veilguard being nominated in just this category, maybe I’m not a good person.

So is Black Myth actually good? I thought most of the hype came from China.

Also, hope Astro wins, but I'd personally give it to Silent Hill 2.

Yea. Has some flaws, like being kinda easy and filled with invisible walls. But overall I'd say it's a very good game, one which manages to tell a story while having gameplay as the main focus the whole time.

Yeah it’s very good. It has some quibbles but considering it’s the studio’s first AAA effort it’s pretty remarkable. That doesn’t excuse those quibbles by any means but it does make them more forgivable.

I don’t know if it would be nominated for more than best action game & best graphics/art direction most years but in a slower year like this it absolutely deserves to be nominated.

Multiversus winning Best Fighting Game in 2022 was a joke and completely destroyed any credibility this show could have (the beta of a f2p).

Let's nominate it again for 2024!
