The Game Awards 2025 marks the first time when Microsoft got more awards than Sony.

Doom: The Dark Ages and South of Midnight managed to get at least one (Innovation in accessibility and Games for impact respectively), while Sony's flagship titles Death Stranding II and Ghost of Yotei were completely left in the dirt.

Is it over for us, Sonybros? How will we ever recover after this violent blow from that brute Phil Spencer?

Lets be real, the Games for Impact is one of those DEI/ESG things that was probably included exclusively for loans/tax credit. It's a pretty worthless category, in which a game that nobody gives a shit about won.

The accessibility stuff is cool though, but it's still not really any barometer of the game's quality other than polish. I'm patiently waiting for Death Stranding 2 to come to PC before jumping in.

I'll be more worried when Sony only leaves that award show with an award named "games for impact".

They were still the most nominated for the night...they couldn't compete with Clair Obscur that took all awards their games were nominated as well. And frankly Clair deserved them more so...

In the past there's been complaints of favoritism or jokes about a dev or publisher paying to win (Kojima favoritism being the most recent notable complaint). Happy to see that didn't seem to be the case with any award this year. Yotei and Death Stranding aren't great games and rightfully deserved no awards compared to who they were up against.

I tried Returnal, I really did. But those kinds of games just aren't my bag. If they add more difficulty customization, I'll give it a shot for Kohli.
This one supposedly will have it where you don't lose anything. Like Hades. You get stronger and stronger.

Their silky smooth gameplay is sublime, however. Always has been in every game they made.

Well look at that embarrassing title Sony announced in conjunction with JJ Abrams. Absolute cringe, never mind the 2 Gen ago gfx. Sony has no idea what and who to back anymore, they've lots the Midas touch.

Maybe it was a mobile game???

Nothing to do with the fact that games are needed to be the most nominated company in the first place!

I mean, they couldn't win anything with two - the most boring sequels imaginable: DS2 and GoY. Both games could be expansions to DS1 and GoT.

What games Sony have for next year, GaaS trash, Saros and Volverine? Saros will be interesting for sure but I doubt it will be less niche than Returnal and Insomniac has a lot to prove after that trash Spider-Man 2.

Not taking away anything you said, it's probably true, but Doom literally felt like an expansion as well. Buggy and glitchy as shit on launch to boot.
