I don't know TOS as well but I thought those were still multi-function vessels, i.e. held bigger facilities to do more things than just fight. The Defiant literally was stripped down to just fight, no recreational facilities, science labs, etc. Just lots and lots of weapons. It could just be the writers on DS9 forgetting or not clarifying further.
Did some looking up and generally sources seem to agree that they didn't. I have my doubts, though, as to the hair they might be splitting in saying so. Certainly all federation ships were equipped for exploration, but you can't tell me the Reliant in TWoK was originally intended for science missions. It was armed to the teeth and had a small profile you'd expect of a battleship. I always assumed it was on that mission because they were looking close to the neutral zone.
It's just a bit hard to believe that the Federation went through hot wars with both the Romulans and the Klingons and never once built a warship in either of those conflicts. I'm really tempted to just consider that line about as meaningful to pre-DS9 trek as Section 31 and all that.

It'sfunny watching the old Trek movies and in them the non officers sleeping in bunk beds in one big room. Then in TNG everybody got a deluxe apartment in space. But I guess the crew on the HMS Bounty would think modern ships was luxurious.
What? No way is Reliant a warship. It's too small. Plus it was no more armed to the teeth than enterprise was. Sure it was slightly more advanced than enterprise (Spock's line about "outrun us and outgun us") but who wouldn't be due to constitution class being older. There were no warships in trek prior to DS9 (another thing DS9 ruined). Besides, it was there scouting for possible planets suitable enough for project genesis just as Chekov stated in his log entry.

I wonder if maybe Wesley was specific part of Picard's child-hating since before TNG, since he had a thing for Beverly but lost her to Jack Crusher, and then Jack died but Beverly wasn't on the market again, because now she had Wesley (maybe not true, but in Picard's mind).Nah, he *really* had a hate-on for kids for the first few seasons. I think even before Wesley started getting into everything. Letting Wes on the bridge was the first act of softening along those lines, if anything.
Man! First season of DS9 has sucked so far I saw the show back in the day when it was first aired but I really didn't remember it was this bad. The acting, make-up and special effects are all good but the stories are just awful. I remembered DS9 as bit more mature ST show and I know it will eventually come to that but I recalled they started constructing the story arc right from S1 but I guess I remembered wrong.
edit. and the actor playing Sisko is really bad. He is bit too dramatic for my taste.
Did anyone watch William Shatner on the Colbert Report? Perhaps he was only kidding, but Shatner really came across as a jerk.
You should have a read of Wil Wheatons first meeting with "William Fucking Shatner"

And the design of the ship clearly emphasizes weaponry over sensor equipment.
The show mostly sucks until Sisko gets his beard (though there are a few high points).
So after playing a lot of Star Trek Online and seeing so many Galaxy dreadnought cruisers, I came to a realization. Wouldn't that third nacelle be a huge liability to anyone trying to launch a shuttle from the main shuttlebay? It seems like the superstructure added to support the nacelle eliminated the other two bays, so certainly the main bay would see a lot more traffic. Except now, the moment the bay doors open you'd have an enormous red light right in your face and less than 100 meters away, taking up about half of the width of the bay itself. You'd have to immediately pull directly up or risk doing catastrophic damage to your own ship. Seems a terrible liability.
Watching Quantum Leap. Been a long time since, and it's amazing how many Trek Actors are in the show. Already seen General Martok (who I recognized by voice alone), and Gul Dukat.
Michelle Forbes as Ensign Ro Laren good god this woman is just stunning also played Admiral Cain in battlestar galactica, and Mary Ann in true blood.
Just felt like posting it since I saw the BSG pegasus episode on tv a couple of hours ago.

"Inner Light" Writer Morgan Gendel proposed a follow up episode but the TNG producers werent interested in doing episode sequels, so he went on to write a number of other stand-alone episodes for TNG and DS9. However, the notion of a follow-up to "The Inner Light" has always been something Gendel wanted to get off his chest. And so he decided to turn his notion (titled "The Outer Light") into an online comic book "mini-series, with the help of co-writer Andre Duza (known in the Bizarro genre and author of Jesus Freaks), with art by graphic novel illustrator Don Ellis Aguillo. "The Outer Light" will be serialized into 11 "episodes" (of about 4-5 pages each), plus an original cover for each episode. The first episode will be presented here at TrekMovie.com on Monday April 9th (5pm Pacific). New episodes will be posted here at TrekMovie.com every two weeks.
The time is Stardate 46539.5 approximately one year after Picards encounter with the probe from the long-dead planet Kataan. The Enterprise discovers a ship that has crash-landed on an inhabited planet, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard has good reason to personally investigate. Once on the planet, he gets caught up in the intrigue surrounding sabotage at the mines that harvest the rare element Durillium, prized for its use in replicators. But more significantly for Picard, he comes face-to-face with former inhabitants of Kataan, the very planet where he so recently lived out an alternate life.
