The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Does the game explain that you have to have your shield down to backstab someone?

You can literally not touch any buttons with the exception of the attack button when trying to do a backstab. So you have to move in behind an enemy, let go of everything, even the left stick, and then hit attack.

I still feel that it's not really fair that Alex got to stick with GB while Rorie got stranded. No offense to Alex because I don't hate him or anything, but Rorie seemed to be really the only person who got completely screwed over by the Gamespot/BermanBraun deal and he really didn't deserve it because he's a great writer. I hope he's finally able to get a permanent job soon.

I don't think he was the only one, but yeah he got the short end of that stick. Considering Jeff and Alex apparently are good friends and Alex stuck his neck out for Jeff when Jeff got fired from Gamespot, I can see where Jeff might have fought to keep them both but ultimately had to choose one person. Or maybe it wasn't his decision at all, who knows.

Brad doing a Killzone quick look...? Is the whole QL a bunch of "LOLZ who IS this GUY!?!".

No but brad did say he never finished Killzone 2 which explains why he didnt know who Radec is because I think most people remember Radec as that fucker of a boss fight at the end of Killzone 2 rather then remembering the character.

Jeff and Brad are talking about judging Killzone by the first person shooters of the time, but even by late 2004 I was playing FPS games that lightyears beyond what was going on there.

Yep. In 2004 we had Half-Life 2, Far Cry and Doom 3. But remember, this was when PC FPS still reigned supreme and console devs were still figuring out how to make the genre work.

I still remember the "METROID PRIME 2 VS HALO 2 VS killzone" magazine covers, as if there was some grand competition between equals going down between these 3 first-party FPS giants. Even then I knew better, and I was 12

I guess.

Really this is just reminding me why I didn't play FPS games on consoles during that generation. Halo 2 was the only one that even interested me, and the version that interested me was the 2003 Don't Believe Bungie's Lies Build.

Yeah, I remember absolutely nothing about Radec as a character, just that he was that super annoying cloaked guy at the end of that awful final room in KZ2.

Then again, I only played KZ2 so it's not like I'm a big Killzone fan or anything

I get what you're saying, and I agree completely: Brad is a terrible person for not remembering Radic, probably the most memorable of villains in video game history. This is (at least) equal to not knowing about Wario, LeChuck or Diablo.

The only thing I remember about the original killzone was EGM or something had this kind of sweet Helghast propaganda poster in it. Never actually got the game, the only non-Halo console fps I was interested in at the time was Metal Arms (though if I had a cube Im sure I'd have been all over the Primes), plus Killzone always looked kind of bunk even back then.

I remember really liking the little bark the enemies did when you shot a grenade at them in Killzone 1. don't remember the actual bark though.

lol, nice

its Radec

I was joking - there was a discussion among similar lines a few pages back :D

The sad thing about my own experience with Killzone is that I still haven't played even a single one of them. I have the recently released Trilogy sitting here, but so far other games this winter have vied for my attention more effectively. I have yet to stare into Radec's forlon, glowing eyes myself.

After watching that QL, I think I'll spare myself the first Calzone ;)

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as not knowing about your pre-edit examples and your post-edit examples are no better.

Radec is an incredibly minor gaming character as far as notoriety goes. I'm not saying he's a poor character, just that he isn't that well-known.

Im gonna say I think he is a bad character. Generic as fuck.

Yes you've seen everything the game has to offer in 20 mins.

Ok, may be I'm being unfair basing my opinion on such a small piece of the game. What were the remarkable aspects of Killzone 1? I've never played it and have only seen short videos like this one. I've played and enjoyed Killzone 2 SP and especially the MP but never really felt a draw to go back to the original.

I think.. think... they meant console shooters. but even by those standards, i didn't really buy the argument. Halo 1 and 2 had pretty much solved the issues of reticule acceleration with the right stick - something Brad specifically pointed out.

And aspects of campaign objectives and voice over work can be compared across genres, not just first person shooters.

Speaking of Tropico, which Tropico game should I pick up, 3 or 4? It sounds like a lot of people were upset that 4 had a lot of recycled stuff from 3 but seeing as I haven't played 3 before I don't think that would bug me.

Also which expansions are the best? Any of them essential?

Get 4. None of the DLC / Expansions are essential. There's plenty of content in the base game. In fact, everything from the quick look is from the base game.
