The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

HAHAHA, Vinny shooting from the lighthouse...

The best thing is, when you realize all those times he rode shotgun for QLs and he goes "shoot that guy" "can you do this?" "what's over there?" this and the Slippy Dawgz QLs prove that if he drives, there's no question! He's the Keith Moon of video games media.

This looks rad. Very relaxing game. Wish it was on Steam. Read on their official site that you can get it on Amazon now too. I might do that.

It does look cool, but I've had endless ocean sitting on my shelf forever and still haven't played it much.

Hmm, my brain is telling me not watch that and avoid the horrible rage I will feel watching them play MH again, but...Vinny.

Patrick is actually pretty informed and enjoying it.

He's basically doing what people have been bitching to giantbomb to do for years; doing some actual research and getting some experience in before jumping into a quick look.

does giantbomb purposely over compress the youtube versions of the videos? they always look soft.

the monster hunter looks super blurry like a wii game with less jaggies. even the text is hard on the eyes.

Now Patrick will bring Monster Hunter to every unprofessional fridays until he can convince everyone else to play with him.

Looks like the 8-4 guys are having some influence on Patrick.

Good.

He made a conscious effort to understand the game before forming an opinion on it, which is really laudable.

When he said last week "I put six or seven hours in and don't know if I like it yet," I imagine a lot of people raised eyebrows at the idea of putting seven hours in to a game without forming a "THIS SUCKS" or "THIS IS AWESOME" opinion.

Good on Patrick for embracing the idea that not everything clicks immediately.

Gotta say, after seeing the quick look now I want to get Monster hunter 3 ultimate when I buy the 3DS.

Not that I have anything against it in the beginning. Just didn't have the platforms it's released on.

if you didnt need a wii U to play the 3ds version online i would buy it myself.

Meanwhile the MH vets were all '7 hours? That's nothing!'

Now the question is do I spend my lunch watching this QL or playing the game...? Maybe I can do both somehow.

Raa!

I really hope they do this for every wii u game.

I don't know what that means. The second stick doesn't control camera? No deal then.

It does, just in the same way that the d-pad controls the camera on the 3DS and original Wii version. Up and down just change the angle/pitch of your view and left and right actually move the camera. This also means that when aiming a gun, for example, it'll feel as if you're moving the cursor with a d-pad; 8 directions.

Oh okay, back in (eventually) then, although emulating the cardinal directions seems like sloppy work.

Although that layout on the 3DS sounds like crap. Slide pad and d-pad are on the same side of the console so you can only comfortably control one at a time unless you do the Claw. Thankfully MH4 has that monster lock-on button on the touchscreen.

The 3DS has a virtual d-pad on the touch screen and actually does have that the monster lock-on button on the touch screen as well.
The demo's up on both systems if you're really curious. They do a terrible job of demoing the game (20min timeframe and ZERO explanation) but you can at least get an idea of how the mechanics work.

Looks like a penis monster to me.

Monster Hunter looks right up my alley, but I don't think I can play those games without a second stick controlling the camera.

It's actually a Chin Monster.

Khezu has the dickmonster angle covered but he's sitting out from this game.

By the way, the target lock is already in MH3U.

edit: I hadn't actually watched the quick look yet so I thought that was a picture of an Uragaan. I laughed my ass off when I realized it's supposed to be Peco.

Man, what a great way to show what Monster Hunter is about.
Great job Patrick, you are finding your niche in Giant Bomb (playing games others have no interest in).

Agreed, there were a few factual mistakes, but for someone's first foray into the series I thought he did a great job. I was really just going in hoping that he gave it a fair shake and he really has. Nicely done man!

That Monster Hunter QL was better than I could have even hoped. Great job.

I'm sure millions of people have long since corrected him regarding the dual sword's meter, and it did bug me a little that he wasn't using the X+A attacks but man nobody knows everything about MH right off the bat. Hell, even I learned something there, at some point they showed a method of combining items I didn't know about.

also obligatory 'IT'S A WYVERN NOT A DRAGON'

Two coming up in the next two days...

Quick Look: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Quick Look: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

Both should be at least interesting.

I forgive you PAX
