The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

They keep talking about "This type of game" in the Dishonored Quick Look, yet don't name anything other than Deus Ex, Deus Ex 2 and Deus Ex 3.

It reminds me of Fallout 3 in a lot of ways, and one of those ways might just be that the "jank" is excusable in the larger context.

I must not have woken up properly, what jank are you guys even talking about?
Oh, and I suddenly understand why Patrick doesn't like stealth games if he feels compelled to reload as soon as he's detected in games like MGS. WTF? The game gives you plenty of tools to take out alerted enemies, and being detected itself isn't very penalizing unless you care about your final stats.

I'm no Patrick hater, but he really needs to start playing the games during Quick Looks, rather than talking about it, showing a menu, talking about it, giving the development history, talking about it, showing a menu, talking about it...

Thank god this bothers other people too. That's why there's two people, questions can come up naturally and then things can be explained some.

I've never thought first person platforming is as clumsy as Ryan makes it seem. Maybe all that time with Turok wasn't a waste after all?

Metroid Prime nailed first person platforming about a decade ago and Mirror's Edge came out a little less than four years ago. There's nothing inherently wrong with it as a genre, but then again some games fail to implement it well.

Ah yeah, the running back and forth while talking in Patrick QL's :) That's one little criticism I have with him. Witcher II 360 is one of those offenders.

I am sure you can figure it out. It's not like there is much like it.

Thief, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Bioshock to an extent

"I recovered from that way better than I thought I was going to!"

*cyberdisc critically hits heavy for 12 damage, felling him*

This is really good. I wouldn't have pegged Ryan as a pretty decent strategy/tactics player (TOO MUCH CLUSTERING), but I guess I should've expected different after hearing his love for SimGolf

"Save the game. You can save the game anywhere"

*Save game*

*You cannot save the game right now*

[admittedly it was just because it was in aiming mode, but still hilarious]

Is Ryan good at any games, like any games in particular? Serious question. Brad gets ripped on (most of it tongue in cheek, some of it serious) while Ryan goes virtually unnoticed but he is pretty much terrible at everything I see him play. Jeff was pretty much holding his hand during the XCOM QL and good thing he was too.

Football Manager was made for Ryan.

People saying "bad at games" need to remember he only lost one soldier on that mission with a cyberdisc luring him towards mutons as well as thin men ambushing from the roof. Jeez.

dishonored has some buttugly UI. Looks like butt.

The game also reminds me of Bioshock a fair bit, but I was hoping for more Thief.

Oh my god someone like Jeff is sorely needed when Ryan and Patrick are doing QLs, they need someone to just say SHUT THE FUCK UP AND PLAY THE GAME. Isn't Drew also watching them while they're doing QLs? He should inform them when they're taking way too long blabbering about the history of Nintendo and the pets and families of the game developers.
An on-screen menu timer would give Ryan the hint I think.

W-who cares?

I'm excited for dishonored but that quick look was kind of meh, also that fucking rain effect on camera already annoys me.

Yeah, I don't know, maybe there's more mission variety, but just going through the level to get to the guy to kill doesn't seem very exciting

Mini maps are his arch nemesis, there are quite a few quick looks where he either isn't paying attention or just simply doesn't understand them.

After watching both Dishonored and XCOM, my interest in Dishonored is zero and my interest in XCOM went way up.

Nothing to do with the personnel on the Quick Looks, Dishonored just looks really boring.

XCOM looks great. I didn't know much about it previously, but it looks like fun. I love Advance Wars so this looks like it scratches a similar itch.

Dishonored I'm not so sure about. Seems like it's running under the false guise of "do anything you want", but in actuality, most encounters hinge on the blink ability. Also, the 360 version looks rather washed out.

Ryan played a good map there. He maybe rushed a couple of turns or did things differently that I would have, but he did fine. I also will never forget that time he took the control from Brad during that Trials video and showed him how it's done.

If we are going to complain about Ryan being bad at games, lets at least pick some where he is actually bad.

Its more of a first person splinter cell without guns.

Ryan has forgotten the PS3 version of XCOM in 3 straight videos. Even the developers didn't correct him in the EX Quick Look. I actually thought this was PC/360 only until recently because of that.

Noticed that too, at the risk of kicking off another multi-page argument, I will say that I wish the guys stayed a little more informed about prices and release dates and things like that. I know they joke about fact-checking killing the podcast, but when a lot (not all) of people take what they say as gospel they should try and be as accurate as possible with that stuff.
