The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Watched patrick play sly for 5 minutes.. turned off quicklook. He is not good at the game. He has been ruining quicklooks for me for far to long. Someone stop him.

Patrick is sure in a lot of quick looks.

Agreed but I honestly think he does a great job of explaining the games he plays in quick looks. I don't understand why there is so much hatred towards him. I wish Giant Bomb would just turn off youtube comments on their videos.

ostensively:
directly or clearly demonstrative.

ostensibly:
apparently or purportedly, but perhaps not actually

Who knows what he is saying. I heard the 'b' between the 'o' and 's' in the word. And, he says it a lot.

Huh, well I've learned something new. o_o

However, I think in 95% of contexts, when someone says "ostensively" what they mean is "ostensibly".

I have no hate towards Patrick, but I'm not a fan either and I do get sick of his over exposure in quick looks. I'd like for the quick look teams to even out a little more.

The problem that I tend to have with Patrick, is that he is rarely funny and spends a lot of his quicklook and podcast time talking in a very matter of fact kind of way. Not only does he tend to present his opinion and feelings like they are the general consensus, but he also quite often states certain points as fact when he actually doesn't really know what the hell he's talking about.

Example: Today I spent my commute listening to the latest Bombcast and kept listening while I prepped my dinner. At some point he starts talking about the latest DmC and mentions that the series could really do with a lock-on system. Which is something that the series had from day one and is one of the missing mechanics that DmC got a lot of shit for from the fans. Luckily Brad chimed in to correct him (partially), but I feel that there's way too much of that shit going on.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not asking him to be knowledgeable about every little thing in every game, but don't got spouting shit like you know it all when you don't. It just gives me flashbacks of that typical kid in school who always acted like he knew it all, but of whom you knew he was talking out of his ass.

If this is your problem with patrick though then you should have that problem with everyone at giantbomb.

With the exception of Vinny. Possibly.

I was watching that Sly quicklook for 15 minutes and realized that I had been listening to pure silence for like 2 or 3 minutes straight. You'd think Klepek would've figured out how not to do that by now

Patrick is sure in a lot of quick looks.

I think it's more that the other guys are not in enough quicklooks.

Pretty much. Patrick gets stuff wrong now and then, but Ryan and Jeff are much worse in that regard in that they'll often just assume whatever suits them about a game.

I was already disinterested in DS3, but seeing things like the timer/scavenger bot upgrade stuff sneaking into the game is really gross feeling. I know Brad said it wasn't necessary, but the fact that those types of systems are showing up is just... ugh.

Patrick does it the most, though, and he's the most egregious about it. Sometimes he conjures up statements which developers never made in interviews that never happened OUT OF NOWHERE.

My favourite thing about Patrick is he is "the news guy" yet Alex writes most of the news stories.

I guess Patrick is busy being in nearly every single quick look / live stream so its understandable.

It was kinda irritating/hilarious to see Patrick fumble his way around Majora's Mask. He did a poor job of presenting the game for the awesome experience that it is, but everyone but him in the Giant Bomb crew hates that game anyway. :P

I've gotten over a lot of Patrick's quirks; my main gripe is that he tends to talk far too much about very obvious things. Brevity is the soul of wit, and that's why Jeff, Ryan, and Vinny are so much funnier. They drop their lines and don't belabor the point.

I agree with an earlier comment - what seems like know-it-all is more likely youthful earnestness. He seems like a nice dude.

Yep. I like Scoops but he's verbose as fuck.

They start at Chapter 6, Marth's mask is removed
as Patrick talks about how he's a traditional Fire Emblem character

He gets alot of things wrong when he tries to state "facts" about many games that aren't indie. Plus his attitude towards a game can get pretty wishy washy depending on who he's partnered with and how comfortable his knowledge of the game being played is. I don't have that much of a problem with Patrick, although I wish he wasn't on every quicklook that comes out.

After all the praise Receiver got on Idle Thumbs I was really let down seeing it in action. I know it's the product of a game jam so it's not going to be polished, but it just looked completely un-fun to me.
