The Green Knight gets a new trailer

i watched it over the weekend with the gf, she absolutely hated it. I'm famiiiar with A24 films so I knew what I was going in to see. Beautiful cinematography, shots lasted a little too long, the director was a bit too self indulgent, movie didn't need to be as long, otherwise it was fine.

Beautiful images, color palette, dialogue was sparse and memorable, acting was good, very slow pacing, movie dragged, not a high adventure at all, typical art house weird camera shots that linger too long and odd pacing.

The people around me were definitely expecting a different movie from the trailer. Who ever cut the trailer needs an emmy.

For those familiar with the story, how close is it to the original? Did they try to modernize the moral lessons?

So, imagine you are a beanie wearing, specialty coffee drinking, record collecting, weed smoking rich kid from San Francisco who just graduated from the best film school money can get you in, and you bullshat your way into selling your script born out of countless shroom and weed sessions to a studio known for appreciating hipster sensibilities, and you finally get to shoot your film and get it heavily advertised in hipster subreddits. Thats the movie i just saw.

Sounds like you just watched your first A24 movie.

Saw this a few days ago, this is how I described it to a friend on FB:

"Weird, trippy, a bit confusing, sometimes funny and sometimes scary, hope that description helps lol... I enjoyed it overall but I like off-the-wall stuff"

I think I need to go see it again to get it more the second time cause I didn't really "get" it completely. Movie kept throwing me for a loop. I also say this as someone that didn't have the background knowledge of familiarity with this legend, so maybe I need to read a summary beforehand and it will make more sense.

Or maybe it's not supposed to make sense.

I've seen Midsommar, Uncut Gems, and Moonlight, and while those had unconventional or trippy elements in their own right they still told very linear stories and I generally "got" what happened - not so much here.

I really like the main actor, but this movie sucked unbelievable balls. Boring as fuck, not a lot makes sense. Even after reading up on it afterwards and getting a better understanding, I still give it a 3/10.

Thanks to the VOD release I was finally, FINALLY able to see this movie and man, it was worth it. I really, really enjoyed it.

It's a fairytale first and foremost. A lot of fantastical things happen, almost none of which get explained in a rational way. The movie depends heavy on you figuring out the plot for yourself while it takes you across an absolutely beautifully shot mythical England where you never know what you can expect.

I mean it's a complete package: visually this movie is insane. The soundtrack is incredible as well. The actors, the writing, the curves along the narrative way, it's all top notch. I also strongly disagree with people saying that it is too long or that there are too many "boring" shots. Lowrey takes a LOT of time to show off the incredible scenery. You can almost hear him say "yeah this looks stunning, take your time and soak it all in".

Ultimately I feel that the first trailer does the movie a huge disservice because that trailer makes the movie seem way more horror-esque, creepy and dark fantasy and I feel the movie is not really any of that. The trailer even reminded me of Dark Souls a bit. So if you go in expecting a movie Dark Souls you're gonna have a bad time.

Never heard of the story, watched it cause the trailers looked good, did not like it and the trailers looked like a completely different movie.

Some shots looked incredible, but the movie wasn't good imo.

Loved the trailer. Hated the movie.

Who ever edited the trailer needs an oscar tho. The entire theater audience breathed a sigh of relief when the film ended, people were passed out, getting up frequently to get drinks, no one expected this movie to go up it's own ass that far it disappeared.

Visuals were nice, way too pretentious, film needs a better editor, lowry is the snyder version of an intellectual director. People need to reign him in more next time.

Was interested now with the VOID release but reading some impressions here I think I'll wait until it shows up on some streaming service.
Never liked these movies that don't explain anything.

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
In going through the poem one thing that is

revealed is that the Hunter, is the Green Knight. And as Gawain gains more and more from the Hunters wife, the hunter brings back less and less. (the most he gets is 3 kisses). Then when he goes to see the Green Knight he confronts his own cowardice and shame, eventually taking the stroke. But the Green Knight only nicks his neck and scars him. When he returns he is shamed because he was alive, and he uses a golden green sash to hide the scare. But then Author king of the Britons speaks to him and restores him and all of the Knights of the round table then wear sash like Gawain.

Pretty good ending in the book, I think better than the movie, but I like the movies ending as well.

I watched this last night, and it was a dark movie.

Remember Robin hood prince of thieves. Pretty well rounded, then you meet the witch.

The green knight is dark and medievil just like like the witch introduction,
and the whole movie stays that dark throughout.

Been thinking about this movie since I saw it on opening night. I completely understand people not liking this movie, it definitely isn't for everyone.

I watched a few youtube videos that broke down some of the more subtle things that I completely missed. Looking forward to watching it again sometime soon.

Can't stop thinking about this movie. The final stretch is so amazing.

First the extremely nihilistic encounter with the Green Knight. Right before the Knight swings his axe Garwain flinches and asks "Is this all there is?" and the Knight answers "What else ought there be?" Man that was chilling. Along with Garwain you somehow expect some crazy revelation or twist or profound insight but no, it's exactly as the Knight told at the start: he returns whatever wound you have inflicted - nothing more, nothing less.

And then of course Garwain flees and the montage after that was incredible. So intense with that crazy soundtrack.

What a great movie.

The part when arthur looks at his knight while he senses him made the movie for me, the reading of the challenge was such a good scene. I wish this movie wouldn't bomb because the world it built is amazing
