The majority of the people touting the exclusive DLC (Which nobody even knows about) on the 360 platform will probably not even buy it. Prove me wrong.

What kind of retarded statement is that? How the bloody hell could anyone "prove" this? The fucking DLC won't be out for months!

Damn, if Rock Band can sell almost 10 million songs in a few months (and they had a totally convoluted way of buying DLC for most of that time), if a CoD4 map pack can bring down Live... I'd say it's a safe bet that the mission packs or whatever they end up being callled will sell buttloads!

Anyone have any theories as to why they haven't told us what the DLC would be? Seems like that would be a good marketing tool.

I've only seen one ad for the game period, and it was for PS3. I guess they are just waiting till it releases for the ads, but even then, I imagine the commercials won't really be specific in regard to the what the content actually is.

I think MAJORITY is the key distinction as none of your examples sold to the majority of owners and I doubt many people were thinking about future DLC in those games when they made their purchase. Also songs in Rockband aren't a good comparison.

I recall an interview saying they were going to hit the DLC right after the game was done. So they probably don't even know the full scope of the DLC just yet.

According to 'dasupremeone', he has just seen the GTA4 PS3 Bundle in San Jose - California.
Source.

Saw that in the other thread too. If this turns out to be real along with the advertising I've seen that is Ps3 exclusive MS really didn't get their money's worth.

Theres been PS3 only GTAIV ads in the US? That's cool, I was wondering when Sony were gonna bother advertising it. It's been a constant barrage of 360 ads in the UK, tho the ad rocked so I wasn't complaining.

The UK ad is better than the US one imo.

PS3 Bundle > MS's DLC

As far as having sales impact goes. MS dropped the ball.

As for the marketing, it seems like Sony is taking care of NA while MS is doing EU.

Yeah, all these examples that go against my point are invalid, let me move the goalposts again so my argument remains unscathed.

High five!

Not to take away any thunder from the PS3 release?

something interesting..

Does GTA4 give you an option to install to the HDD on the 360?
No it doesn't, but it does cache to the HDD (I read comments by someone that first they only used their memory card for saves to use a new account so they wouldn't be tracked, with the HDD removed there was lots of popup and slow down but then they tried with the HDD in place and performance was much better).

Impressions from a reliable poster on a Uker forum I frequent.

Could this be the pop-up some reviewers are talking about?

Just a little Retail Musing:

Every store in my district (about 14 stores) are averaging:

~270 X360 editions

~150 PS3 editions

Now that is very interesting. But I don't know why the reviewers would happen to not have their Hdds on their 360s while reviewing the game. That doesn't sound too likely.

Another thing: if it used the HDD to cache data, how does that work? Wouldn't it need to dedicate a certain chunk of storage for that data, or does the 360 HDD already have a "cache" partition for whatever games to access?

Well this could explain the pop-up we seen on a certain .gif posted here.

Um no just rock band. Do you honestly think people were thinking about DLC or even knew about DLC when they bought those games? DLC is not a determining factor for most people when making a game purchase.

If the scale of the DLC is large enough, it could warrant its own advertising campaign - creating a second surge of GTA/360 interest/sales at a time that is generally much more fruitful with regards to sales - competition free. Right now the PS3 has GTA 4 and MGS 4 coming out back to back. Some vague promise of awesome downloadable content some time in the future just isn't gonna be able to compete with that.

Houser has already stated:

I think we will be in a position to market [the downloadable episodes] not a million miles away from the way the boxed game is marketed.

Which is why I don't get why people seem to think their importance can't yet be gauged.

I've basically been saying what you just said for months now. PS3 can have as many bundles or PS3 tagged ads it wants. MS gets Three Separate Launch Dates for GTA4 at the end of the day.

NumberTwo

Paper or plastic?
Kind of bummed that the PS3 version will not be getting the DLC. But hey, if R* doesn't want my money that's fine too.

360 is winning the GTAIV sales war on amazon since last week

Xbox 360 GTAIV is at number 4 and PS3 version is at number 5

similiarly on the special edition side, Xbox 360 version is at number 8 and PS3 version is at number 11
