It is The Guardian, not Game Informer. There isn't going to be another metric.Seems odd to judge based on diversity.

Or Baseball and bat flipping and having the 50 year old white fanbase NOT yell at yaBeing a brown dude in a sports game isn't breaking any barriers. Unless it is Hockey
In Japan, Japanese people aren't a minority.
Why? It's just another lens to view E3 through. Diversity is important, and worth talking about.This.. is kinda gross and not how the industry should be judged.

Not if you get things wrong. The scoring is really silly but at least get your information correct. Also it weaves between actual facts and personal opinions that I find it odd. Why? It's just another lens to view E3 through. Diversity is important, and worth talking about.

Female protagonist Aloy returns as the player-character in Horizon: Zero Dawns The Frozen Wilds, though the cultural appropriation of Native cultures on a white woman still doesnt play well
It will never be enough for some people.
I agree they should've been much more thorough in their research, but the concept is fine imo.Not if you get things wrong. The scoring is really silly but at least get your information correct
How would you suggest it? I feel like a big issue for people in this thread is the score. If they took that out would it be better? Not like this.
Articles like this encourage companies to go about it the wrong way.
How would you answer your own question. If you were to do a rating, what would a 5/5 diversity rating look like? What exactly should people consider to be enough?

Did you zone out for some of the conferenceThe worst part is that Sony gets the highest rating. I've never been bothered by the whole diversity thing until Sony's conference where it felt like every game was a third person action adventure RPG lead by a buff white dude. How about we get some diversity in exclusive IPs too
It will never be enough for some people.
What does that have to do with what he ask?Did you read the article?
It's not progressive or helpful in any way. This is not good way to go about this.

Probably 0 white males. That's the most diverse.
What does that have to do with what he ask?
What is enough measure by here?

"The Crew 2 featured a white guy, but he seems so generic"
Am I the only person that thinks calling certain looking people "generic" kind of insulting?
I'm a white man in his 30's with short hair. So I guess that makes me one of those "so generic" guys. Thanks a lot :/
I love how they're assigning a point value to race/gender.
I wonder what would grant a company more points; a black male protagonist or a female protagonist?

table scraps should always be enough.
you ain't starving if that's not enough.
do you resemble all of these dudes?
I mean thats a dumbass image considering how different a big chunk of them look.do you resemble all of these dudes?
a F2M wheelchair bound blind dark hispanic character.

There is definitely an archetype for white dude protagonists but this demonstrates it terribly.
Yeah but it feels like this format (scoring press conferences and the criteria they're using) cheapens strives towards diversity and actually sets them back.
It seems like they're just trying to pull controversy with very little ammunition.
It will never be enough for some people.
We would have to ask The Guardian (or the members here who think this is a decent article) but would F2M be worth a higher rating than M2F?
Diversity can be determined by point values, and some of youbare accepting this which is truly bizarre.
[Note: this article was amended on 16 June to correct the mislabelling of a character in the game Detroit: Almost Human as white]
Lost Legacy - Indian and Black womenIt was boring after Horizon's trailer.
The worst part is that they gave Sony the highest rating. I've never been bothered by the whole diversity thing until Sony's conference where it felt like every game was a third person action adventure RPG lead by a buff white dude. How about we get some diversity in genres too, because maybe it wouldn't be a problem if these games weren't the exact same formula.
Pointing out how much progress we still need to make doesn't mean we haven't made strides. It just makes you uncomfortable. Which is good.
I'm not saying the race issue is still stuck in the 20th century when I point out how bad people of color still have it compared to their white contemporaries today.
So you're god damn right it still isn't enough.
At least then "white males" would know how it feels for others not like them for the last decades (if not centuries).
WtfI don't think anyone will ever know what it's like to be as truly hated and despised as you are.

As I said, how many points would you give to a company making a game with a black male protagonist? Would it be worth more than another company making a game with a white female protagonist?
You're accepting that we can score and weight races/genders. So I mean, good luck 'fighting for diversity.'
Btw how many black friends do you have? I need to tally your diversity score.
Lost Legacy - Indian and Black women
Horizon - white woman
Days gone - white dude
Monster hunter - Asian dude
Shadow of the colossus - Asian dude
Call of duty - first person what
Ffxv fishing - Japanese boy band
Skyrim vr - first person what
Bravo team - first person what
Star child - lady
Moss - it's a fucking mouse
God of war - Greek dude
Detroit - it's fucking jesse williams
Spider-man - the white one
The topic isn't how bored you were or weren't watching the presser.
First 5 games felt similar and then I tuned out through VR. Looking at that list I still feel the same about Sony's catalog. Not white, sure, but not unique enough to me.
Clearly not obvious enough for whoever wrote that. Does anyone edit this stuff?Sony - Diversity rating: 4/5
Player character diversity: It's unclear whether Nadine or Chloe will be the player character for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, but to see two women, one of whom isn't white, headlining is great. If it were a standalone, full-length title, that would be even better.
Well... Chole is Indian, the game IS standalone and apparently with full [U1-like] length for $40.
