= 475 million day one sales

This is why they aren't rushing it, it's going to make more money in a single week than 10 years worth of Ubisoft releases. Or not, I have no idea what the fuck I'm saying but it'll make a lot of money.

Trailer 2 got a insane amount of views but it was still under 100 million views on youtube so where did the other 300+ million views came from? Twitter? Tiktok, TV? ads?

This game is to gaming like the Super Bowl is to the NFL: even if people don't watch a single regular-season game, chances are they tune in for the spectacle.

I hope the various platforms can handle the online traffic cause I forsee that and a lot of other problems getting your hands on the physical copy of this game on release day.

For this reason I will preorder the physical, I'm sure there will be copies sent to shops outside the preorders anyway so I can have one put aside for me at my work worst case.

Then worst thing will be waiting for install and potential day-1 patch.

Crazy numbers, excited for it even though every mission is prolly on rails trash with 5 minute A to B exposition dumps and it plays like your character is covered in cement.

Gotta admit I never quite understood why GTA is so extremely popular, or R* games in general. I have more hours in sth like NiOh 2 than in all R* releases of the last 25 years combined.

For the first time in a long time, physical media nerds like me might have to pre-order or risk not getting a copy in the first run.

Fucking wild.

May 26, 2026 = the day that the internet died and all work places and schools became closed due to a mysterious new and unidentifiable virus.

It's likely going to set the record for fastest selling game but this thing would be so much BIGGER if it was on PC at launch. It being stuck on PS5 and Xbox Series will have that record much smaller than it could've been.

Sure it will be a smaller record, but that's a record only Rockstar will be able to break with GTA VII. So it doesn't matter in the end.

Releasing on PC would give it a bigger starting boost for sure with how big PC gaming has become but their current way would actually generate more sales in the long run because if it was a PC launch than those PC players won't have a reason to buy it on the console since they already got the best version of it on PC. But now since it's not on PC than 1/3 of the PC gamers might try to buy a console just to play it early. And once it comes to PC they'll be double dipping. This also effects current console players who would also want to double dip once they see the PC version. So this whole thing is mainly to get as much players to double dip as possible cause they know lots and lots of people will do it.

Rockstar will wait to give it a big upgrade and release it alongside the PS6 for maximum sales and double-dips.

4 of those were mine.

3 of em are mine lol

1 for me (will fuck around and get that collector's edition)
1 for my sister who is a massive GTA fan
1 for my cousin who recently graduated as a gift

GTAVI about to be that gaming global holiday lol

This has the potential to crash the internet on release date , imagine like 15 20 million people on day 1 downloading 100z of gb data.

It's going to be wild for sure. I've not bought any current gen consoles (and you can't count a Series S as one lol) so I'm definitely picking up a PS5 Pro for this.

I'm not going to wait a year or more for the PC version.

Youtube? That platform has been going downhill for almost a decade. Twitter, tiktok etc yeah.

Don't get me wrong, the Youtube numbers are really good for this trailer. It is now the third most viewed video on Rockstar's channel. X.com is still great for advertising. 106+ million views (or interactions, as I think it is called?) on Rockstars x.com page. Instragram numbers are strong. Facebook; maybe not the best for promotional stuff like this, but it still pulls in numbers.

Add up all of the below numbers, I count around 300 million views. I'm not sure where the other alleged 100+ million views could come from. Maybe Rockstar Games includes the 'let's watch' and reactions, as well? But, I guess they also have much better metrics than I do.

I haven't even gotten into the South Korean, Japanese, Chinese, or India social media/ youtube equivalent sites. Or the Spanish websites. That is a whole other thing.

Maybe when I add up global view counts, it could be closer to 500 million views? That doesn't mean half a billion people saw these ads. There are a lot of re-watches.

Youtube:
  • Rockstar: 84+ Million Views
  • IGN: 2.7+ million Views
  • Rockstar Games Brasil: 468k views
  • Playstation: 464k views
  • PlayStation España: 312K views
  • GameSpot : 178K views
  • Xbox: 124K views
  • Rockstar Games France: 119K views
  • PlayStation France: 47K views
  • Playstation Brazil: 11K views
  • GameTrailers: 9.6K views
There are other uploads too. But I am not going to deep dive any further. Also, a lot of 'lets watch', analysis videos and reaction videos. For example, AngryJoe has a video with 200+K views. Plus he has a secondary video shouting that Sony copyright striked him for playing a second worth of licensed music.

X.com:
  • Rockstar: 106+ million views
  • Playstation: 3.6+ million views
  • XBOX: 1.9+ million views
  • IGN: 884K views
Instagram:
  • Rockstar: 66+ million views
  • Playstation: 486k views
  • IGN: 303k views
FaceBook:
  • Rockstar: 11+ million views
  • IGN: 1.7+ million views
  • Playstation: 57.7k views

TikTok: To be honest... I don't use TikTok. I don't have an attention span short enough to have any interest in the site yet. I cannot find a full upload of the trailer from Rockstar. Lots of hot takes and reaction videos.
BlueSky: Rockstar has a Bluesky account. But like most Blusky accounts, it is empty. Also, Bluesky's video upload seems to be limited in size, unless you host your own videos from an external server.
Rumble: 4.10k
Dailymotion: Doesn't have a view counter.
IGN: They have a video uploaded to their main website. But no view count.
GameSpot: Same as IGN. But no view count is made public.

Note: No ChatGPT or any other form of AI was used. I literally did all the ground work myself and went to every site and took down numbers the old fashioned way.

Understanding why Rockstar's a big deal requires a physical PS2 with GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas and Manhunt.
Rockstar made violent interactive AAA cartoons with a "Rockstar Aesthetic" that only exists fully on the PS2's unique HW.
The obvious reasons for Rockstar's aesthetic downgrade post-PS2:
1. Rockstar lost the RenderWare engine used for their PS2 games.
2. Sony abandoning the PS2's proprietary GPU architecture for Nvidia with PS3 and then AMD with the PS4/5.

Bots. No way half a billion people watched it in 24 hours.

Still the day one sales will be monstrous even without PC.
