The horror of flying PSP discs

:lol
That is absolutely hillarious. Why the guy made multiple videos I don't know, but it was quite funny to see that UMD launch out of the system. Plus, it is flying out of the system. It needs some kind of force applied to it to send it out at that angle. At the angle he was holding it at, the UMD would just topple out of the system.

This is sad. I'm getting my PSP next week and it's already become a little less sexy.

I just confirmed this with Kaiser over at PSM... he said they've been able to duplicate this manufacturing defect consistently by twisting the PSP lightly like a negcon controller. :(

And your reason for twisting it like that would be? I'm sure Sony has done it testing and there may be a legit reason for it. ie: preventing the disc from scraping in its case while spinning because someone just got to see what happen if you twist it.

As I said earlier...

The system "ejects" the disc just enough to pull it out when angled normally. The "flying" aspect is simply a result of that mechanism.

Hmm...now that I never thought of. I wonder if there really was some reason for it? Protection of the lens perhaps? Surely there would be a more optimal solution.

Holy shit, I would pay good money if anyone gets footage of some guy in Japan playing his PSP waiting for the bus, only to have the cartridge inexplicably pop out and get run over by a car.

I was only strengthening your arguement. Laws of physics dictate that gravity would only cause the object to accelerate.

This is a prefect example why twits like me love Nintendo. I have twisted, squeezed, thrown many a Nintendo product in a tantrum of childish frustration but they all keep on kicking. I hucked a SNES Mario Kart through a wall. I had to fish the damn thing out with a coat hanger. The plastic case was all busted up so I tore it off and had to play with it basically in the nude.

I don't think I'm mature enough for a PSP.

I don't know what's worse in this issue, the PSP fanboys trying to do damage control, or the DS fanboys trying to use this to nail Sony.

Is the game interrupted/corrupted when the disc drops out (while being accessed)? Edit: Actually in the last frames of the first video it shows the game being interrupted, but can you put the disc back in continue?

Now i'd like some videos where the PSP is being dropped. Sure confirms that the GBA SP is gonna continue ruling the handheld universe.

yet if the DS did this you'd be calling it a unique ''feature''. go troll somewhere else.

Please that is a pretty weak troll. He took a shot at Nintendo in the same sentence. After all they did have to come up with an SP to fix the fuck ups of the GBA.

If you're playing any fast-paced action-oriented game, think about how much incidental twisting of the controller goes on when you're playing, especially when you have to hold down a trigger and press a button at the same time.

L1 + X, R1 + down, analog pad thingy + triangle, any of those in an action game where you're kinda pressing things down hard because you're reacting quickly... all are plausible in-game twisting motions.

Whoa now, Wario 64 is hardly a troll. He's not even really a Nintendo fan. Seriously. :P

I was going to respond to this faster, but a flying PSP disc cut off my good typing hand.

PSP - The "Blasterhawk™" of 21st Century

Let's hope the sidetalking.com guy sets up discshooting.com - so much potential here! I think he actually used to post here.

This isn't anything new. A lot of drives with eject mechanisms can be used to launch disks. i've done it 3.5" floppies, Zip drives, Minidisc drives, even the Memory Stick slots on my PDAs. Ironically, it seems impossible to do on my DS because it only ejects it half an inch outward, and it has to be pulled out from there.

I've done it with the DS. Used my fingernail to push in the cart, and it slipped off just as it was pushed in the maximum amount (so the spring was tensed up). It flew quite a distance, and fell down a flight of stairs.

i've tried a dozen times with no luck. If you just put the card in the slot without fully inserting it, there's a snap and the card seems to be resting on something. This seems to be what's stopping mine from releasing the card. Maybe i should stop while it still does that. :)

ok, in this one he isn't really aiming down. if you can shoot these straight up, it might make for a great cheesy pick up line if you manage to catch it super fast Van Damn style.

but you're gonna totally gonna have to justify having the PSP out before you pull off that slick maneuver. since the only system you can get a girl into immediatley at a bar or nightclub is the DS. fact.
