The hype around Starfield is massive, and growing.

Is that in the official numbers only or do they combine the achievement stats for Xbox, Microsoft Store, Steam that people posted around the FH5 release?

Not sure I fully understand the question, but this was an official stat from Xbox/Playground and it included sales + GP

Talking about the player count on the first achievement, it was used to see how big the player base was outside of the official PR.

Is this combining players on all platforms or is it based on the Xbox accounts only?
Would be cool if Starfield would have a similar early achievement, like at the step-out moment.

Starfield achievement list is available online and I'm pretty sure that one of the 'Complete <mission name>' achievement will be exactly that: complete first mission, aka 'step-out' moment.

Oh, im pretty sure that combines all the players on all platforms.
I followed that thread when it happened and I know it included Steam players too

I'm not seeing much ot it, tbh. I was expecting Starfield commercial on TV, ads on bus stops, in the subway etc but haven't seen anything of it yet in my country. Maybe they have a plan but with just a few weeks left until launch I would have expected more.

They cant distribute anything like that using another IP. It'll be some minimal stuff like what was in Skyrim AE on console.

Great point. Vanilla for xbox and mods for steam it is!
I'd be surprised if there weren't a lot of mods available for Xbox down the road. I did most of my modding for Skyrim and Fallout 4 on PC including compiling my own. I got fairly deep into it for many years and PC is obviously far more extensive. But I also have a fully modded version of Fallout 4 running on XSX. Native 4k 60fps with a complete overhaul of textures and ui amongst others. I'm not sure what the plan is for Starfield, but I'd be surprised if there isnt some decent mods making it across from PC.

For now though, at 30fps I wont be interested on console yet. But give it a couple of years and I'm sure this will grow into something great.

Do you think a Modder could mod a 60fps series x version? Or 40fps? That would be amazing.

I've no idea how the engine has changed. But my understanding is that its retaining the same modding flexibility as previous games. If so, it would be potentially extremely easy to unlock the frame rate and cap to 60fps vsync'd. I'd be surprised if it isn't amongst the very first mods. Its literally just an ini file change if similar to Skyrim/Fallout. But I'm no expert on how the 120fps/40fps and VRR implementations work technically on Xbox. For Fallout 4 its a simple ini file change, cap at 60fps vsync'd.

Well if you look at it so rigidly then yes but I think it will be more randomized than that. It's fine if you're underwhelmed by it, but I've yet to see a game do what Starfield is doing in term of scope and stellar exploration..
Dont even like no man sky but it literally sounds the same except no mans sky has no quests

Sea of Thieves sold approx 6 million units on Steam, despite being released there 2 years after the game was on PC Gamepass. PC Gamers overwhelmingly prefer to buy their games on Steam.

What kind of person expects most people to play through a massive, massive game in one month, on a single subscription, anyway?

Most of the folks chiming in to say they’ll play it on a $1 trial sub will still be playing it over Christmas.
Look at the completion rates of these games.

Very few people are going to have the patience or attention span to visit 1500 procedurally generated worlds.

Most will play for 10-15 hours, get bored and move on to something else, with a smaller population completing the story and diving a bit deeper into some of the systems.

You think it’ll only have 5 million players in the first week?
Cracking Up Lol GIF

Forza Horizon 5 had 10 million first week.
I have no idea how many people will play the first week. If you could read, I suggested that Microsoft was going to take the approach of reporting on users and not copies sold.

Just trying to double up the hype I guess…

Anyway, I think there might be less bugs than anticipated..

There’s going to be decent chunk of people who try Starfield on Gamepass and dip. But those weren’t planning to pay $70 for the game anyway.

They don’t need to report on copies sold. You’ll see it topping Steam charts and racking up a significant number of concurrent users. You’ll see people deduce how many purchases of the premium, early access editions there are from the initial achievement.

I suspect these metrics will bring you some measure of unhappiness

I've been kind of torn between whether to get the Steam Premium version for $83(Fanatical), or just stick with GP PC version and upgrade it for $32. In the short-term, GP PC is cheaper and I have dual-boot setup for my Deck so I'm not worried about that. However, in the long-term I'm guessing the Steam version will have more robust modding support with easier implementation. Decisions, decisions.

If i download starfield with gamepass ultimate, then buy the premium edition upgrade, do i fully own the game? (meaning, if i let my gamepass subscription lapse, i can still play it)

I dont think you would own the main game, but its a first party game, and wont have licensing problems in the future like with something like Forza with the cars and music licenses. So Starfield will probably be on GP for life anyway.
