The 'I think the pricing on 360 is great' thread.

Am I the only one that thinks the pricing annouced by MS is great.

For only $299 you getting an amazing next gen system. That is amazing.

I know the Sony and Nintendo retards on this board are trying to make this a huge deal but I think the pricing is great.

/sits back and waits for more folks to step into the light...
funny thing is, every generation you've gotten an amazing next-gen nintendo system for only $199!

$50 wireless controllers (+ $20 charger and $12 battery pack), $100 wireless adaptors, $40 wired controllers, $100 20gb hdds, $40 64mb memory cards, $20 faceplates.

Now that I've calmed down, in the end I don't care about the $400 price for what you get with it.

...its the accessory ripoffs that still get my goat. Especially the $99 WiFi dongle. That kills me.

Luckily the ethernet out still lets me use my existing Linksys Gaming WAP.

...so you're concerned about the increased cost for others? Thats very noble of you.

Seriously, just ignore the accessories. They are there to make you feel better about spending $400 on the console.

I like the $299 Xbox 360. At that price I'm getting everything the original machine gave me plus increased graphical performance! This is definitely how I'd like all consoles to upgrade.. keeping all the features and value of the previous generation while giving me even more for the next generation of gaming goodness!
:lol

No, it wasn't.

Some sites mistakenly thought Sony announced a gigabit router at E3. It's been a switch, always has been a switch, and still is in the standard box.

And what makes you think you can't do that with Xbox 360? It supports USB storage. For all we know you could plug in a 8 in 1 reader and use SD for Xbox 360 or even a USB Flash Stick.

Given the control MS is looking for over peripherals, I'd be quite surprised if MS allow game saves or storage on anything other than their own mem cards or HDD. Unless you'd like to confirm otherwise. I'm assuming Sony will make you use mem sticks or HDD for game stuff, so that's why I'm making the comparison to that.

edit - I read that apparently MS won't even be giving out licenses to third party for memory cards. I think it's clear they want that as a money maker.

I can live with a $399 console. I don't like how Microsoft (and apologists) are trying to pass off the standard SKU thats been promised all along as a new amazing value "uber bundle", but I can live with that too.

However, this is only the latest in a string of xbox 360 dissapointments.

They need to give me a reason to want the 360 but everytime they get the chance they give me another reason not to instead.

The remote that comes with the $400 model isn't even the same as the remote you can buy. It's not universal and doesn't have as many features.

.

SOURCES??? WHEN HAVE THEY EVER ANNOUNCED 2 REMOTES???? ALSO THE CABLES ARE MOST LIKELY THE SAME XBOX BRANDED CABLES THAT THEY WILL SELL SEPERATLY. IF THEY ARE LIKE THE COMPONENT CABLES OF THIS GEN THEY WILL BE GOOD

I like it. $300 for a new console is the shit. It's as cheap as they come, and you get everything you need to play, even online (who doesn't have an ethernet cable, jeez).

Although maybe you need a mem card to play online... I dunno. I'm buying the $400 bundle though, so it's non of my business. :)
'You may need a mem card to play online' ? You need a memory card, period. That's an extra 40 dollars. So it's 340 dollars, 60 dollars away from the $399 package. Everyone should get the 399 dollar package. Only complete idiots would buy the 299 dollar version.

Its also only included "while supplies last".

Also, the 360 uses standard component video cables, which means that a good number of people who would've bought the component cable for the 360 will already have an extra (or one they can swap to use with the 360) and wouldn't need to buy one anyway. Plus, the component cables that come with the 360 are probably low quality.

Standard xbox component video cables, perhaps. But they are not standard component video cables.

dont forget $50 for renewing xbox live since it'll run out by november assuming most of you either got xbox live when halo2 released or got it on xbl launch day which was november and you need to renew again.

that was removed.
Still, PS3 has WiFi and BluRay, two (pretty major) things that you would obviously have to buy extra on the X360 front, and two things that could influence the base model price. (and yeah, the gigabyte switch is still there)

And what makes you think you can't do that with Xbox 360? It supports USB storage. For all we know you could plug in a 8 in 1 reader and use SD for Xbox 360 or even a USB Flash Stick.
Well, if you can do that to save game status via USB, the case can be made that there's no reason you can't do the same on PS3 also, but having standardized flash memory is always a plus because of universal interchangebility between various devices. 8 in 1 reader is an extra accessory cost, of course.

• Faceplate ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)
• Hard Drive (20 GB) ($99.99, 99.99 Euros, 69.99 GBP)
• Memory Unit (64 MB) ($39.99, 34.99 Euros, 22.99 GBP)
• Wireless Networking Adapter ($99.99, 79.99 Euros, 59.99 GBP)
• Wireless Controller ($49.99, 44.99 Euros, 32.99 GBP)
• Play and Charge Kit ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)
• Rechargeable Battery Pack ($11.99, 14.99 Euros, 9.99 GBP)
• Controller ($39.99, 34.99 Euros, 24.99 GBP)
• Headset ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)
• Universal Media Remote ($29.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP)
• Component HD AV Cable ($39.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP)
• S-Video AV Cable (US) ($29.99)
• SCART AV Cable (Europe) (24.99 Euros, 17.99 GBP)
• VGA HD AV Cable ($39.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP)

So FFXI is not $99 like it was for the PS2, it's now $160 :lol
To play basic games online, it'll be 40+50 (MemCard, Gold account), or 90 bucks.

For a wireless controller you either pay $50 and buy batteries every 5 days, or buy a chargeable pack ($12), and if you want to play the game and charge at the same time (Not sure if just buying the chargeable pack makes it rechargeable) will be another $20

To play Xbox games, you need the Hard drive.

I'm getting bled dry! I can wait on S-Video, but damn...

I'll wait until MS sees the light. I could care less about wireless controllers, but no HD? :(

It was not removed - it's a switching hub, and it's still in there. End of story. ;)

I think the biggest joke is the $20 faceplates. I was thinking more along the lines of say.. $5. Maybe $10.

do you perhaps use a cell phone? Ever see the prices of faceplates? $10-15 will get you a shitty one. Consider the plastics are far better for the 360 and far thicker... it no doubt costs more. $20 is actually on the cheapside... i was actually thinking it would be $30

60 dollars is alot in canadian bucks. That 60 extra bucks just ain't worth it, because I don't need that extra stuff.

I do have a cell phone with changeable faceplates, and I can buy them online for $5-10, maybe the same will happen with these. Really, I'm not concerned about it because I don't want to pay the $20. I wasn't going to buy faceplates in the first place. I'm only concerned because I think faceplates make a pretty cool pre-order bonus and I'm not sure companies will give away something they could sell for $20

did anyone notice that the system appearance is different for the two packs?

acording to xbox.com

For gamers who want the ultimate experience (and the best value) right out of the box, Microsoft will offer the $399.99 U.S. Xbox 360 console. This premium edition—distinguished by signature metallic detailing on the console itself—comes fully loaded for the ultimate gaming experience, with components and accessories that would cost more than $200 if sold separately. The system includes:

looking at the gaming age story it looks like the premium edition has the chrome dvd tray and the core edition only has the white plastic tray

With all due respect man, but those plastics are not better than anything. I've held the faceplate they'd been giving out at E3 conference, and that plastic is the most standard fare imaginable. Same thing the front face of the most standard PC case is made of. It's obviously bigger than cellphone plate though, so I guess that makes the price justifiable.

I'm beginning to wonder the same thing myself. A lot of this guy's posts and threads go out of their way to praise Microsoft and/or bash its competitors.

At least he isn't as blatant as Zapages.

The pricing seems fine to me, the only thing that seems like a ripoff is the controller is wired in the $300 package. If you're gonna show off your wireless controllers every chance you get, don't switch 'em out at the last minute. Otherwise, you take the 360's base $300 package and compare it every other console launch and the 360 suddenly looks like a great deal.

Anyone who expected GAF at large to react any differently than it has hasn't been paying attention. The only difference between here and the much maligned GameFAQs message boards is there are some great posters here (5-10%) which GF's doesn't have. Otherwise it's the same immature, spasmodic fanboy froth.

I love the pricing. The core system is great and all I need. And for European standards it`s actually VERY cheap.

The only thing I`m still hoping for is a small memory card to be included in the package.

Some are rationalizing the $399 by saying "why go with the $299 when you need a $39 memory card? Just throw down another $60 and you'll get a HDD and more."

Problem is that cheap-ass casuals are more likely to not just throw down another $60. They will tend to save all their money and just not buy it at all (until a price drop).

It'll be priced at $400 CAD and $500 CAD plus taxes respectively so it'll only be a $50 CAD difference between the base+MC and the premium.

How could you tell :)

299 dollars to play PGR3/RR6 is a steal. Super cheap in my opinion...

For the other Canadians here are the estimated prices for the 360 accessories.
•Xbox 360 Core System - $400 CAD
•Xbox 360 Premium System - $500 CAD

• Faceplate ($19.99 CAD)
• Hard Drive (20 GB) ($129.99 CAD)
• Memory Unit (64 MB) ($49.99 CAD)
• Wireless Networking Adapter ($129.99 CAD)
• Wireless Controller ($59.99 CAD)
• Play and Charge Kit ($29.99 CAD)
• Rechargeable Battery Pack ($14.99 CAD)
• Controller ($49.99 CAD)
• Headset ($29.99 CAD)
• Universal Media Remote ($39.99 CAD)
• Component HD AV Cable ($49.99 CAD)
• S-Video AV Cable (US) ($39.99 CAD)
• VGA HD AV Cable ($49.99 CAD)
Hey Americans who think that $20 US is too much for faceplates, why don't you buy a Canadian faceplate for $20 CAD (about $16.50 US)? :P

The only thing im upset about is MS pricing their wireless control pads at $50.

On the flipside, do you think MS will be profiting on each console sold?

Because I'm a rational person who doesn't base his self-esteem on how his favorite giant mega-corporation is doing, I don't represent any company or console. I like good games regardless of who they are made by and in what form they come in.

And I don't like being fucked.

So Microsoft can take a flying leap on this one. I'm now officially waiting until sometime in 2006 before I join the HD ERA.*

*HD optional

you mean gaming is an expensive hobby?

GASP!!

anyways, early adopters always get screwed with pricing. Isn't that right? I'm used to it already :)

I really don't understand all the bitching and moaning. I mean it's $299. THAT IS the standart console. That's what the Xbox was. That's what the PS2 was(without a hard drive might I add).

The only thing to complain about is not having a standard hard drive. But none of the games will REQUIRE it. So unlike the original Xbox it's not a necessesity but a luxury.

Plus if you WANT a hard drive, and Live headset, it's nice to know you can get all those plus HD cables and wireless controller in a bundle for another $100.

Big freaking deal.

The $299 is bad value plain and simple. It compares badly with the original xbox because it lacks the HDD.

It compares badly with the ps2 because it doesn't have backwards compatibility, and also the price of DVD drives has plummeted since the original introduction of the ps2.

First Wall guy and now this. I dunno, are microsoft trying to lose?

Unlike the original Xbox, it is now NECESSARY to spend EXTRA money for storage space. Just like with all the iterations of the Playstation and everything else like it, you MUST factor in AT LEAST $40 to be able to, for all intents and purposes, PLAY GAMES, which is something YOU DID NOT HAVE TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL XBOX. Now you are at $340. An Xbox Live account comes with your empty Xbox. Wonderful, BUT YOU CAN'T USE IT because there is no storage device.

What about all those wonderful things Microsoft promised out of the box, like the wireless controllers? Extra. XBL Marketplace? Extra. Partial backwards compatibility? $100 extra.

Wow. What a great deal. $300 for an X360 disc drive.

Hey if this helps kill MMOs, perhaps I need to rethink this whole thing. Small price to pay to keep that shit on PC imo.
