The 'I think the pricing on 360 is great' thread.

I think your problem cyberheater is that you're taking the $299 package and adding the price of the overpriced accessories which makes the $399 package look like a great value. The problem with that is the "premium" package is really the standard package. You should be subtracting the value of the overpriced accessories from that package which will show you what a terrible value the $299 SKU is.

I think your missing the point.

Personally i'll be getting the $399 version cause it meets my needs but the $299 version will be great for folks who really want to enter the HD gaming era for the least amount of money as possible.

At least MS has given them the choice.

How can you enter te HD Era with the $299 system when it comes with the Composite AV cables? Only the $399 system comes with the HD-AV Cable... I'm so confused...

The $299.99 version comes with hd cable right out of the box.

Xbox 360 Core
The Xbox 360 Core includes the same powerful console as Xbox 360, but starts with the basics and lets you expand at your own pace. The Xbox 360 Core includes:

* Xbox 360 Console: The most powerful console with 512MB of unified system memory, a 3.2GHz CPU with three cores for lightning speed, and an ATI graphics processor for the ultimate HD graphics.
* Xbox 360 Controller: Features an extended nine foot cable and an improved ergonomic design, with the Xbox Guide Button for quick access to games, movies, and music.
* Composite AV Cable: Get your system hooked up quickly to any TV or VCR with Audio/Video inputs.

WHERE'S THE RF OPTION!?

Check Major Nelson's blog.. no it does not.

There is apparantly some confusion floating regarding what video cables are included in the Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 Core system. Let me set things straight:

The Xbox 360 Console includes the Xbox 360 HD-AV Cable:

The Xbox 360 HD-AV Cable outputs component or composite video. In addition to having RCA audio ouputs, there is also a Toslink-style optical output for digital audio.

The Xbox 360 Core system includes the Xbox 360 Composite AV Cable:

That should help some folks out that may be confused.

Oh wait that means I can just spend $40 to buy a HD cable... but wait if I just spend the cost of that and a little more than one game....

My older sister pre-ordered the XBOX360 for her son's Christmas gift. When I told her about the $299/$399 dollar deal, she told me she's getting the $299 retard pack. I told her all sorts of reason on just spending the extra for the $399 premium pack and you know what she told me? $500 is too much to spend on a console and two games...... this coming from a person who spends money on a 51" WS HDTV/Surround system JUST FOR KARAOKE. She has only used it once ever she she bought it last month.

She told me there really isn't any reason on getting the HDD anytime soon after getting the console since the games can be played without it and that we already have 2 XBOX for for a much better "backward compatibility."

Your sister is a wise woman. Except for the karaoke part ofcourse.

Yep. The $299 magic is starting to take effect... :)

You can get 2 games and some sort of peripheral with the 299 dollars console for the same money you'd get from buying the 399 dollars console with only 1 game. What do you think many starved next gen gamers are going after?

Does anyone think that prior to the PS3 Launch MS will go to one SKU (being the old 399 price) and dump it down to 299? or perhaps 20 dollars under ps3?
I don't know about that. That would make the fragmenting of the userbase in terms of hard drive even stupider, if all developers had to account for people who bought the cheap edition of the system in only its first year.

I think they just want to say that they are selling a $299 system. It's almost as if they know the PS3 can't match that price point at launch. It's like a mind game. However, I think of Peter Moore everytime I open an X360 pricing thread, so it's like mindfuckery

With these two packages that will be released, how exactly will that affect pre-orders?

I imagine stores will be shipped a combination of standard and premium SKUs. How will they guarantee theyll have the SKU each customer will want?

I'd think without clear claification, they'll send more premium packs.

All this really did for me was further convince me I wouldn't ever want one.

God bless them, I bet they think they're really going to make an impact. Poor fellows.

Take out the headset and remote and charge $360 (one SKU). That would've been great.

thats because MS is pricing the accessories at incredibly inflated prices.

$40 for the standard controler, which is nearly identical to the XBox1 controller! (which is ALREADY over priced)!?

$40 for component cables :lol :lol, the XBox1 component package was $20 and this is the SAME technology. The cost of this technology has doubled in 4 years when production costs have decreased? The cost to produce these things is about $5.

However, one of the main reasons the $399 makes sense is the necessity of a memory card. Anyone paying $340 for the retard pack with a memroy card just has to be insane. I'd gladly pay and extra $60 for a wireless controller (worth $10 over wired controller, HD cables (worth $20, and that's being generous) and external HDD (worth $40).

So

XBox + memory card = $340

or

XBox + Wireless controler (+$10 actual value), + HD cables ($20 actual value - again being very nice here) + HDD ($40 actual value) = $410

So about a $410 value for $400 is how I see it.

The other crap is usless to myself and many others. Ethernet cable? I have 2 of those lying around the house.

It's funny - I'd be ok with 399.99 as a launch price, but fragmenting the user base like this and all the trouble it will cause is just going to hurt the legitimacy of the X360.

I suppose it's a good thing though: this latest fuck up, along with the fairly boring launch will make it a lot easier to wait for PS3. I'll see how well Sony does with their launch and the state of X360 at that time before I make a decision.

What's really sad though is 6 months ago I was ready to buy an X360 at launch, but the more that's been revealed about this system, the less excited I've become.

I'm sure you'll feel more excited when RR6 and PGR3 gets released :)

Yup. Microsoft's reasoning for the 2 SKUs makes perfect sense from a business perspective actually. Everyone is saying Microsoft is going to skew the ratio of units to Premium much greater than Core but I'm not sure sure. Discount retailers like Wal-Mart are going to want huge quantities of the Core units....

I see these two things happening:

1. Mega discount retailers like Walmart will probably have many more Core packs than Premium. Afterall cheapasses shop there.

2. Specialty stores (EB, Gamestop, etc) will have more Premium packs than Core packs.

In fact I also see Microsoft pushing this choice thing even further..like into the realm of games....I can't wait to buy my first "discount game" and pay a little extra on live to unlock the "special" content!!!! YES!
kidding of course

Yep. I think your absolutely on the money. This will be specially prevalent in Europe where most consoles are sold in hypermarkets. 299 Euros is going to be a great price point for them.

Don't you mean an amazing price point? (woohoo let's get this started early today!)
