I think Alliance is one of those teams--kinda like MVP--where they just need to keep playing their own drafts and executing flawlessly. When they try and play other peoples style they fail miserably.

Thru all 4 years I've been following them, every time Alliance has tried to play the meta they are mediocre and sometimes straight up fucking shitty. Whenever they pick their heroes tho, they are consistently above average to good, but not top tier. The best they've been since TI3 was briefly after TI5 when all of their heroes (specifically Bulldog's heroes) were premium meta picks. That's when we heard the most non-ironic "Alliance is back" calls.
After that patch they quickly settled back into a mid-tier team that could still shine when they managed to draft and execute an Alliance style draft. Give Bulldog a ricing split pusher. Give Loda a go-ham carry. Give Akke a greedy jungle or defensive support. Give S4 his playmaking mobile mid. Give EGM anal. Given all these things, magic can still happen. Will Alliance ever win another TI? Probably not. But at the VERY fucking least they will provide quality, entertaining games. At the VERY least we won't have to watch them bumble their way thru a "meta" draft they have no fucking clue how to execute. I'd rather Alliance lose every game as long as they're playing like Alliance and not trying to follow the herd.
