Off topic, but is that why TVs are often called "boob tubes?" Because they pacify children like feeding from a boob? I guess I never really thought of it before.

No, I think it's more along the lines of calling it an "idiot box" or what have you.

(Heh... didn't look at the Onion piece... I see it also used that one)

Lolol I know it's universal and that it works good on the iPhone, the question basically meant if it's a game I'll want to have with me everywhere on my phone for some quick bursts of playtime or if it's something I'll probably take my time with and play with a more dedicated approach (iPad).

In that case: Either/Or. I usually don't have time for long stints of gaming, so I just do like 1 farm and 1 mine at once and then put it away. But you can easily just keep going, it's not like it restricts your playtime in any way. It's perfect.

Heroe's Call got a HUGE update for anyone playing it. I'm super stoked - it's one of the best ARPG's on the app store (next to DH1/2).

Yeah sounds like they've taken out some of the time management aspects like waiting for missions, I deleted it before but I'm gonna give it another shot

Definitely worth it. I'm shocked at the content included for the price of the game (free for the warrior class, pay to unlock the other classes). It's a fun dungeon crawl. It should tide me over until Baulder's Gate!

Just tried Heroe's Call again due to this thread. It also helps now that I've tried Ski Safari.

Wow, what a huge difference between now and when I deleted it 20 minutes after launch! It's actually a legit fun Dungeon Crawler now. I'll almost definitely pick up the Assassjn if the rest of the game keeps up this level of quality.

All the idiotic F2P tropes are gone. No time management crap, no multiple currencies. Well, I take that back. You need to wait to ID items, but you can hurry it along for a few gold, and If you are paying attention to the appraiser you can do it faster, too.

I admit I'd rather have just paid $4 and gotten all the content, but hey, you go to war with the army you have...

Another thanks for the heads up, it's a great game now all that shit is gone, we should give it a good review an maybe buy some IAP in an attempt to show iOS devs there is a middle ground.

Still hammering away at Happy Street, No idea why, such a stange game to want to tap away on all the time! Feel free to add me (Johnlenham)

Fucking Puzzle Craft. It's one of those games where I know I should put it down, but I can't.

Nice. I was really enjoying it a few weeks ago and then put it down and never went back. Looks like time to go back!

Do Puzzle Craft and Dungeon Raid have iCloud save sync?
Puzzle Craft doesn't.

Guys, whatever you do, don't download Zookeeper Battle for free. It's basically the best game ever and you will never get anything done ever again. Seriously.

It's Zookeeper, but you match Elephants and Hippos for defence, and everything else for attack, and someone else does the same on their grid. Then after thirty seconds you attack each other depending on the stats you've built up. At the end of a few rounds the winner is the one with the most life left or the one who killed the other guy.

It's utterly brilliant. There's some free-to-play stuff there, you only have two games "charged" and have to wait six minutes to get another one, but games take a few minutes anyway so this isn't much of a stumbling block really. The presentation and feel of it is just lovely though, like the way you have to greet your opponent at the start just makes me feel all warm inside for some reason. There are tons of achievements too and you level up and get rewards to decorate your avatar with and new greetings as you earn them. It's fucking brilliant.

GOTY.

The Bust-a-Move-ish looking Supermagical doesn't look too bad.

Stupid dumb file size.

Oh shit, Zookeeper has a quasi-sequel? I still play it occasionally despite the fact it hasn't been updated since it came out. Such a great game.

Worth mentioning this I suppose, Order & Chaos, the Gameloft MMO, went free to play with the latest update.
Now has mounts etc and a bunch of other stuff.

Oh and Osmos has voice chat for multiplayer now.

Might take a look, so totally f2p or pay but no sub? It supposed to be prett decent, got an eye on their MOBA as well...

Yeah I meant subs were removed in the new update. Still costs to purchase the game though.

Anyone else having major issues with their Update tab in the app store? I haven't been able to connect for the last few days, even though I can buy/download/search stuff fine. The badge is active and updating (up to 5 updates available currently) but still getting a "Cannot connect to App Store" popup.

Still don't understand the addictiveness in Puzzle Craft.
It's completely lost on me as well. The hooks didn't sink into me at all, and I feel like it's just a thin film of FarmVille over Treadmill: The Game. I've never been able to get into those kinds of game, though I will say that Happy Street and Tiny Tower are charming as hell.

On Order & Chaos - it's an OK game. The issue comes with the fact that there are a lot of IAPs. I played the game for a few months at release via subscription and enjoyed it to a point. It sort of reminds me of Maple Story in how the IAPs are - you don't NEED them, but you're likely going to be gimped without them. Want to craft an epic item? IAP ingredients required. Want to run the hard mode dungeons more? IAP required. For a f2p MMO on iOS, it's the best available, though.

dling Zookeeper Battle. I remember playing the original on... DS? and flash I think as well?

Looked up Order&Chaos in the app store based on someone here saying it was f2p but then... it's $6.99. not gonna happen for me.

How do I upgrade anything other than training in 10000000? I've been playing a while but haven't unlocked any doors because of my rank.

Just keep running through the dungeon and accomplish as many tasks as you can. There are a few points in the game where you need to grind for a run or two but for the most part the progression is pretty steady (I found it to be this way at least).

I haven't had any objectives in a while, I feel like I've been in the wayfarer dungeon for a long time. Maybe I really suck at this game :|

Can anyone confirm that Blutrol 2.0 supports the Wii Classic controller ?
http://www.ringwald.ch/cydia/blutrol/

WiiRemote is listed in the compatible peripherals list, but not the nunchuck and Wii CC/CCP.

I've searched but couldn't find an answer.

Oh shit, I hadn't even put two and two together there. That could be the greatest thing ever. Would dual stick shooters work with the CCP do you reckon? analoge controls have got the be really hard to emulate like that.

How much is blutrol? I might take the plunge to find out for myself.

Blutrol doesn't support analog controls nor virtual analog sticks IIRC.
It's 6.99$. I'm very interested in this app but I'm not buying it before being sure that the CC/CCP is supported (at least the D-Pad and the buttons, I can wait for analog stick support).

If you do buy it, let me know how is it :)

So Lost Cities is quite great. It's from the makers of Carcassonne, so a super-polished implementation of a classic light boardgame. One of the cool things they've thought to do with the single-player is put in lots of challenges and leveling, which really makes the game fun even as a single-player. If you're looking for opponents for async play, join us in the iOS Board Game thread.

Is Mikey Shorts actually a good iOS platformer or did it just get 5 stars because Touch Arcade people made it?

Am I the only person who thinks Puzzle Craft is boring? Generic "build a town" system, boring art style, unprovactive puzzles... I don't get where the addiction kicks in.

No, there have been others that have said the same.

I don't think it's a GOTY by any means, but it held my attention for 20 hours. That's worthy of praising for .99.

Yeah, agreed. Hoping they upgrade it to universal at some point like they did with Carc. Playing on iPad 3 myself though and looks fine in 2x.

Apparently it's something they want to do, or may be working on, but as they are so meticulous, and such a tiny team, they didn't want to promise anything. I think they felt comfortable launching iPhone-only since it was ready to go, and the game plays really quickly.

Having a lot of fun with it. A little (frustratingly) luck-based at times, but still pretty addictive -- I've been playing throughout the day. As AstroLad mentioned, the game has a really clever single-player leveling system with a bunch of little challenges. And it's obviously incredibly polished. Probably the best board game translation since Carcassonne.

I'm somewhere in between. I don't think it's super addictive, but it's a fun little time killer. I play it in quick 5 or so minute sessions through out the day, so it's stayed pretty fresh so far.

i never got into it because of this

I'm amazed at how much presentation affects my preferences on iOS. It's why I couldn't really get into Dungeon Raid, yet the WarGames one was so appealing to me.

See also Hero Academy v. pretty much every converted card/board game.

? The good board games have some of the best presentation out there. I'll put Carcassonne on retina up against anything. Neuroshima Hex, Forbidden Isle, Elder Sign, Ticket to Ride, they all have really nice elegant design. The Playdek games (Ascension, Nightfall) are pretty much the real card art without too many frills but they get the job done very well.

I do like Hex and I just downloaded Lost Cities. Stuff like Ascension, though, the click to expand stuff on cards is functional, yes, but it makes for a really unappealing...tableau...? I guess? I admit I'm stupidly finicky.

I think board games, yeah, would be better, but I haven't tried many of those. Hex, I dunno, I just couldn't get into it.

And yet I play Simpsons Tapped Out every like twenty minutes so, really, I'm clearly a terrible judge of games.

Hex is tricky to learn at first no doubt. If there was a single thing I would improve across the board it's tutorials. I would give an interactive tutorial and then literally play them through an entire game if they want. No better way to learn.

Can't believe you don't have Summoner Wars though. That game is soooo good. Since you like Hero Academy so much I think you would really love it.
