This may be a obvious post but yeah paid games are just plain out better than the free crap out there on iOS.

There are exceptions though like Jetpack Joyride, Hero Academy, and afew others.

Jetpack Joyride wasn't free when it came out.

Just finished League of Evil. What an absolutely top notch platformer. By far the best I've played on ios. Just started the second one now and liking it even more. So good.

I loved the first but surprisingly am loving the 2nd one even more! So smooth! I'm on the last level now and its easily better than the 1st.

Nice, i've been playing this lately. I'm almost done, I only have some "Impossible" left to do. (those are HARD) but fun.

Anyone else playing Fancy Pants Adventures? It's suprisingly great with touch controls. Really solid little platformer with buttery-smooth animation and overall momentum. I wasn't crazy about the doodle-y art style on the original PC/console version, but on a small retina display it works quite well.

Check out the lite version to give it a test drive.

Huh, had no idea there was a lite version. Thanks.

is it a port of the xbla version or the flash one? The file size is pretty damn big =/

Just started playing Dungeon Village and...wow. Between this and Epic Astro Story, Kairosoft really is on a new level. I wish they'd hurry up and port them to iOS or at least explain how their staggered release schedule works.
Man these look so cool! I didn't even know they had newer games out not yet on iOS. I want Astro Story and Dungeon Village badly now =(

I think i might delete the Simpsons game while i can. I don't like games that involve a carrot on a stick. Can't how this is any diffrent to all those Facebook games.

As a fan of the show, I'm enjoying it. It's biggest problem is the dodgy servers. I've opened and closed the app about 20 times this morning, and every time I get a connection error. Fail.

Anybody tried Star Warfare yet? Are the boss fights kind of like Monster Hunter style?
It was free a while ago I think. Played it on my brother in law's iPad2. It's both solid and crappy in various ways. I didn't reach a boss fight. It reminded me of Onslaught on WiiWare but not as good with the small levels and constant enemy respawns all over the place. The controls were decent, I don't like twin virtual sticks but it was workable with a somewhat slow and steady pace.

Right, Triple Town fans, give NomNom Combo a go. It's free.

mzl.rfuevvfl.320x480-75.jpg

It's a similar concept, but not Yeti Town similar. You place creatures (and predators) on a grid and if you match three they level up and change colour. If you place a predator next to its prey (they'll be the same colour) the predator will eat the prey. If you place the prey next to its predator it will run away.

From initial plays, it seems to have a better set up than Triple Town. You start with less turns so games feel more finite, but you can "continue" and get more turns when you run out for coins. The big thing, though, is that it gives you enough coins to cover it rather than holding them back like Triple Town does so that you have to IAP or play loads of pointless games to save coins up.

Also, osu!stream has had an update, and its song packs are 2/3rds off for a few days. So $1/69p to play four VVVVVV songs in it.

I just put up some fairly detailed hands-on impressions of Mass Effect Infiltrator. It's an exclusive:

http://wireless.ign.com/articles/121/1219925p1.html

I'm aware of an issue with the screenshot gallery. Looking into it now.

Edit: I believe the screenshots should now work.

Looks great!

Do you have any idea of how long the game will be? Do you feel it's a step forward compared to Dead Space in terms of ambitions and general production?

Dead Space would look so amazing with the metallic shaders they got going on now.

League of Evil 2 is incredible. I've beaten the game, mastered the first three worlds, and I'm working my way through mastering the fourth as we speak. So good.

Does anybody know how much bandwith DropBOX gives you?
I'd like to use it to upload the img of the challenges, seems pretty straightforward to do but I dunno if it would be able to endure a GAF thread. With last year's threads I had my photobucket account killed pretty much on day3 of the first thread and iirc photobucket gives you 1GB free a month, so I started to use AbLoad.de (which was terrible as far as my experience went using it thru my iPAD, but at least my uploads would stick and not give me the "looks who's popular/golden frog/etc) but now it doesn't seem to work anymore.

Anyone else having problem with The Simpsons: Tapped Out?
I haven't been able to login for the last 8-9 hours or so.

Ok, I'm kinda stuck in Waking Mars, 6 hours in.

I've researched everything and 5 star every area, except the one on the bottom that are too dry to raise the biomass. Where can I find more clues about the sentient life and the reason the bottom areas are so dry? These are my current objectives right now.

Sounds like you didn't
fix the Broken Reservoir
yet. Go there and explore and the game should then point you in the direction you need to go.

Personally I think I've now seen all the special endings, I just love that there are numerous hidden ones. Got 16/17 achievements (the full diet of the Prax still eludes me). Still need to max out biomass in a few areas to fully complete the game but I'm pretty much 'done'.

Magnificent game overall. Wish there was more.

Dropbox free has a 10GB/day bandwidth limit in the public folder. For web-optimized pictures I think you'll be fine. Though their system scans for excessive usage and might flag suspect folders for deactivation if usage is kept at a relatively high level for a longer duration. If that were to happen one can contact their support and have it reverted.

Another picture hosting option is to use Facebook. Make a GAF challenges account or similar and use public photos and just link those, then you'll have unlimited bandwidth to play with. :) Come to think of it you could in that instance even make a challenges profile site with historical information on past challenges etc. etc. in a Timeline and all that fancy next-gen challenge jazz. If public, people don't actually need a Facebook account to view it.

Thanks for all the info, that's great mate!
10GB a day seems super plenty, after all it'll be 15 (or less) pics in a week, each weighting less than 300kb,, per challenge.
I don't use FB and I don't think you can directly the pics but your only option is to link to them?
Infos on past challenges is done fo (ie Hall of Fame) and it'll be in the 2nd post of this thread with a link to the new challenge's thread each time.

Trying my dropbox account now, can you guys see this tiny pic:

Can see it, and you can

Re: Mass Effect, neat to hear that the protagonist is voiced by Jay Anthony Franke who voiced JC Denton in the original Deus Ex games.

Haven't ever played a Kairo game, but that Dungeon Village looks interesting. Can their games be played through all in single player or do they force you to make alliances with other players ala something like Castleville (FB game)?

Just finished Waking Mars, clocking 7:30 hours, completing everything (I think).

The ending is disappointing, but the game was great. Like I said before, a very elegant, polished and atmospheric experience with great controls and an intriguing story.

Buy this game people.

edit: hey, look at that, I'm number 1 at the total biomass score. :D

Yeah, all of their games are entirely singleplayer. No multiplayer component at all.

That shit got deleted yesterday. It wasn't worth all the hassle.

Shame because it's a great use for the license. I could barely play it for 5 minutes before I'd have to see that logo screen yet again.

You are? ;)

Side note, I liked the endings, but I agree there could've been more.

Also, I don't get how people get 108% exploration on the leaderboard, I seem stuck at 104.7% (108% post-ending). At least I figured out all the achievements now. :P

heringer, did you find out what to do in
the core with all the frozen things
? I'm curious if I missed something.

Guess I'll have to go back and plant some more seeds! :D

Now that you mention,
I didn't do anything with the frozen things in the core. Maybe that's why we're still stuck at 104%? Also, I'm missing the last achievement, could you shed me some light?

You're missing
the actual ending. :P Activate the other platform in the helm.

I think it's kind of a dumb that Galaxy on Fire 2 doesn't offer an in app upgrade to HD or something. I bought it last summer and then held off playing it because I thought, perhaps my fault, that the iPad 2 optimization was going to be an update not a separate version.

I got it during the sale, the Valkyrie HD expansion will be free if you had it previously once it's released in March.

Ninja fishing is a lot of fun. But damn, with the money i got from capturing fish, i bought MBA diploma so i can get 25% more on selling fish. It´s not giving me the 25% :(. Fun game though.

Can you guys recommend me some word games like Dicto. I downloaded Dicto and i am enjoying it. Is there anything similar?
Thanks.

Congrats to Halfbrick for Fruit Ninja's success. A very big accomplishment.

It helps the game is very fun!

Anyone know what they're doing next? HalfbrickPhil (I think that's his tag) comes in here every once in a while to give us an update. It seems like forever since JJ was out. I'm still playing that game. I think I'm level 118 or something ridiculous like that. I can't wait for the next HB game. Those guys are awesome.

That dungeon village sim game looks really fun, shame its not out yet on ios. Can anyone suggest any similar games like that? Something that is addicting and will kill some time over spring break.

So, my Waking Mars was crashing, then I decided to upload the data to iCloud and deleted the game.

Turns out I can't restore the data of a specific app? I have to return the idevice to factory conditions to have the option of restoring my data? Why? Why does Apple has to make everything more complicated than it should be?

What should I do then?

:/

A common missconception about iCloud itself is that it's a cloud saving storage while it's actually just a cloud saved backup of your iDevice. Apps have to individually support cloud saving from the apps themselves (that's what the "documents & data" of iCloud is).

You'll have to restore from backup to potentially recover your save game.

lmao Simpsons game. "response to the game has been so positive, we're now having some connection issues."

That is one way to spin it ;)

That ME game looks pretty nice... but being solo in a ME game tends to not be so fun, like the latest ME2 dlc =/

For anybody who downloaded MinoMonsters when it was free and never cared to check it again after they "beat" the game: Apparently they had a meaty update 10 days ago. Gotta check it out.
