Yeah Jenga is pretty cool. Doesn't seem like it'd be particularly thrilling on anything not-the-actual-game.

How this happens I don't know:

Can't be as bad as the IAP in Infinity Blade 2. They really try to squeeze you compared to the first game.
No, it's not that bad. Just that any cool stuff (the cartoon skin, for example) has a cost. The IB2 IAP was horrible. It was my first shot at an IB game and definitely my last. $8 to play through a few times, then find it's basically impossible to go any further without spending MORE cash.

Pathetic.

I really really really like Incoboto and more people need to play this to support the dev and experience how awesome this game is.

2012 has been pretty awesome for ios gaming so far. Hero Academy has officially moved up to my favorite iOS game and my love for it will only grow as more teams are released.

Need some point and click adventure game recommendations
Recently finished Ghost trick , thought it was great but it kinda felt like it dragged on during the final chapters, still had lots of fun.

You might want to check out Touch Detective since Ghost Story and Touch Detective are the only japanese point & click games on iOS (I believe).

I have played through IB2 tons of times (without buying IAP) and I have no idea what you're talking about. Main game sure as hell never requires any IAP. Only New Game+ is hard as nails but well, it's supposed to be.

IB2 is one of the games that does IAP properly, they're unlockable cheats.

Also, holy shit man, "Aaaaaa..." is fantastic. Loving it more and more. Not sure why GAF isn't all over it like crazy.

Where's My Water is so fun. It's even more fun trying to get all the ducks.

I want to pick up Cranky but I don't know if there are enough levels to make it worth it. Maybe when they add more levels than I'll pick it up.

After trying Mega Mall, Hot Spring Story and Oh! Edo Towns I'm definitely not a fan of the grid-based Kairosoft games. Just doesn't seem that fun to find out new patterns, combos and rebuild your mall/resort/town when there's little else to do. Epic Astro Story at least has some exploring. Oh well, I think I'll just buy Pocket League Story when it drops in price and wait for Game Dev Story 2.

"Aaaaah" is a pretty nice game. A good feeling of speed and tilt controls work as well as any tilt controls I've used before on the iPad.

I warmed up to the iPad controls. It was hard to play laying down but sitting up it's just fine. Can be a little hard to force walking sometimes but otherwise enjoying the SHIT out of this game. People, buy it. It's too good!

Sweet it's an absolutely excellent game all through the endings.

QFT. I've hardly seen it mentioned here, and I thought it would be right up Gaf's alley. Really fantastic game that needs to be recognized!

When I last played it, I remember seeing how much I was getting per iteration, how much I had to spend to not die in the arse and how much the next-tier of weapons/armour were. It was far, far too much of a grind (or seemed like such) at the time that it was enough to deter me from playing it again. Things may have changed or my memory may just be complete horseshit, but I definitely remember thinking at the time that the only way to progress without heavy grinding was to buy IAC.

It always seemed to me that grinding was the entire point of Infinity Blade. Fight as far as you can until you die (ideally you work your way to a boss and die there), then restart and keep going. You can easily beat IB2 without ever having to resort to IAP, as long as you're moderately good at the combat and make good use of the resources you get. I haven't tried the new game plus mode; I imagine that's a lot more difficult, but if your goal is to see the credits, you should never need to touch IAP.

You get way less gold in IB2 than the original, and am I missing something or can you not sell back your maxed equipment in IB2? I just feel that the progression was a lot more even in Infinity Blade, where in the sequel I'm mastering and unable to buy gear to replace it.

I ended up using a lot of Drop+ gems to get tons of equipment and more gems. I sold back all of my gems except for Attack+, XP+, and Drop+. I never didn't have something new to equip, and I never wanted for cash because I was pretty picky about which gems I kept versus which gems I sold.

Also, it may seem obvious, but don't skip the transition cutscenes and make sure you pick up all of the gold scattered throughout. The only times I ever had gold issues were the times I started getting bored with the transitions and fast-forwarding through them.

If you want RPGs you have to give up on iOS, to be honest. Grab a cheap PSP. Even the "good" ones haven't come up with a better controls idea than virtual d-pads and using them for long periods as you would in an RPG just saps every last piece of enjoyment out of them.

Well I'll probably do this in the near future regardless, but I don't need RPGs or have to give up iOS, was just wondering if there was something fun I might have missed on.

The zenonia games get pretty boring, but it wasn't because of controls IMO.

Crimsonheart is decent. Much better than the Zenonia games anyway;

Anyone playing Simpsons Tapped Out? I could use some friends to add, please PM me :)

If by 'playing' you mean 'looking at the server disconnected please try again screen on occasion,' yep, I'm playing. :)

What's your name? There are a lot of names that start with jme out there. I'm SlackerCS.

Any guesses on what game will be demoed with the iPad in the Apple event this week? I can't really think of anything off the top of my head. Maybe the new Angry Birds?

The original was the same way once they patched it to emphasize IAPs.

The amount of IAP has turned me off completely. Far too much considering they're just (admittedly, pretty cool) skins.

Finished the game (and the harley quinn DLC) without ever coming close to feeling like I needed to buy something to help me out.

That being said - the skins actually have gameplay around them. The skins all have stats and some can dodge quicker than others, have more damage than others, etc.

I would rather buy a skin knowing I'm getting different attributes than just cosmetic differences.

The game isn't perfect but it's better than it should be, definitely worth $3 and I actually like how they handled IAP stuff.

What's this Harley Quinn DLC?

Edit: nevermind, thought you were talking about Infinity Blade, lol

Dunno if you've tried Rimelands: Hammer of Thor, CrimsonHeart (this is supposed to be one of the better action RPGs on iOS, liked for it's almost Monster-Hunter difficulty mixed with needing to forge high end equipment from boss drops), Final Fantasy Tactics, Ravenmark or Legion of the Damned (they're all more strategy).

There's plenty of other RPGs, Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land, A Bard's Tale (which will have the originals), as mentioned SE's other ports (the peak of quality being the FFIII DS port), but generally a lot of efforts on iOS do fall under the time killer / cash-in category rather than play to have fun field. If you have an iPad, you can grab the Avadon PC/Mac port, that's pretty good too.

The upcoming Wasteland 2 seems likely to end up on iOS if it does well, and hopefully there's some more ports of classic PC RPGs in the future. There's rumors of Baldur's Gate making it over too. Cthulhu Saves the World is also making its way over to iOS soon-ish. Wouldn't mind seeing Eye of the Beholder, M&M, Wizardry and all the others while we're at it!

Squids and Battleheart are also worth checking out, and Adventure Bar Story is another releasing pretty soon. Dungeon Raid if you want something more puzzle-game like, Defender Chronicles if you want to see a TD game mixed heavy fantasy RPG. King Cashing (slots), King of Dragon Pass (more sim / book like), and Sword & Poker (cards) are all pretty well received, though not typical RPGs.

I don't find this true at all myself. I played through Crimson Gem Saga on iOS, and it was fine. It's not a better example of ideal controls, Chaos Rings controls better, but it depends on the person. I do agree all the other main platforms have the lion's share of RPGs, and you'd be better served elsewhere if that was all you were looking for.

Oh, and much acclaimed TiTS (The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky) from the recent definitive PSP RPG thread is also eventually making its way to iOS, in the form of an enhanced port, with new content (characters and storyline), some added optional social elements, and attention paid to making the UI work with the touch screen.

So did I. It's definitely possible to play an RPG on iOS, I just find that using virtual d-pads is incredibly annoying, and using them for long periods impacts on the fun I have quite greatly.

I enjoyed Crimson Gem Saga, but I found myself trying to get through it as quickly as possible because I just wanted to stop having to use the controls. I think if I'd have played it on PSP I'd have had a lot more fun with it, and taken my time to explore a lot more. It's very difficult to recommend any RPG on iOS with that in mind, because they're not games you should want over and done with ASAP. I haven't even bothered with any RPG since CGS because I know I'll have the same experience.

Late to the party, but I finally grabbed DARIUSBURST SP over the weekend. Runs at a buttery-smooth 60 fps on iPad 2, and looks fantastic. Though it's clearly not wide enough.
