Wait so for people who are following the conference, what is it called? Also, friendly reminder, Assassin's Creed Recollection is coming out for iphone/itouch TOMORROW. And it's universal, so if you own it on ipad already you already have it. :p

So glad I downloaded it while it was free even though I don't have an iPad.

IB:Dungeons reminds me of a way-better Dungeon Hunter. I hope they are successful with this and it makes Gameloft weep at their shitty internal decision process.

Meh.

I don't have unlimited 3G so the 50 MB thing isn't great for me.

I suppose it will mean higher quality apps. Lets just hope devs don't get lazy with optimisation though.

So do you guys see games getting 'iPad Retina' updates where they improve the resolution? And if so, do you see the updates being free or paid?

A mere resolution change is not much work, but if textures, UI elements and so forth are being reworked, that's a lot of time, so at a glance, I guess it'd be reasonable to want money for it.

I can see some games getting simple free updates while others may get a whole new version put on the Appstore.

Holy crap IB:D looks amazing. I wasn't that fussed by IB2 but this looks like it could be really fun.

I'm also wondering what the parity will be between iPad 2 and 3 games. I'm guessing it will take a whole lot of horsepower to run games at retina res, so will we be able to play the same games on iPad2 just in lower res? Retina will be lovely when I eventually get an iPad 4, but I have no desire to buy this new one yet. Although reading comics will be godly on it.

when I had a touchpad, there were multiple tiers on their marketplace. Regular apps, HD apps, and XHD apps. I really hope that doesn't happen, but devs have already been splitting games up from ipad and iphone resolutions due to download limits. In a perfect world apps would just be universal. I really hate getting a competitive game with leaderboards only to see it split the user base between an ipad and iphone versions.

I'd expect a free update to be honest.

Don't fancy paying double for the same game.

If the games look as bad as non retina games did on the iPhone, I would be seriously pissed off (although I don't have an iPad). I'm guessing the problem will be even worse? Can't stand low resolution apps.

edit: bkfount that tier system sounds horrific. Doubt Apple would do that though

OK, this might get skipped over in the iPad spec whoring but I have a question for you all:

I just formatted my computer (long story, but I paid very harshly for seeing Christina Hendricks' boobs), and I'm going through the rigamarole of getting my stuff back on my PC. I obviously have no apps downloaded onto my PC now - if I plug my iDevices in, will it download the apps back on to the PC from the devices? I don't particularly want to wipe them and have to reinstall (and download) the apps again and lose my saves.

What is going to hapen? Anyone been through this before?

If you're logged into the same Apple ID in iTunes you can pick "transfer purchases" from the device's r-click menu in iTunes and transfer them over to your PC.

To be honest, the iPad and iPad 2 didn't suffer from the problem nearly as much as the original iPhones did, mainly because one generally views an iPad from much further away. The upgrade should be fairly godlike though.

Question regarding GameCenter achievements.

When I get my new iPad, I intend on letting my wife have my current one. If she changes the GameCenter login on that iPad, will it automatically give her all the achievements for the games that are installed on that iPad?

Adventure Bar Story and AssCreed Recollection iPod/Phone out tonight - good wednesday, and I think both are only a dollar a piece.

Hey did iOS 5.1 add this wallpaper or was it always there:

Encouraging devs to optimise their apps for under 20MB meant a lot of small apps on my phone. Now they can be lazier and release them at 50MB, which means a 16GB device with music on it is going to fill up very quickly.

The average file size of apps is going to increase. It's good news for devs. It's bad news if you want to carry around a large variety of apps or music, because you won't have the space any more.

I'm the opposite-this means there will be more Universal Apps, which means less double dipping.

I should have clarified...I meant more traditional media and I'm talking more about the developers with the kind of money that can spend on TV, billboards and print.

iOS games seem to spread via word of mouth, and that's the mindset that even the bigger developers have. I think that's great, I love that I find out about most of the games I play on iPhone through my friends and NeoGaf, but a small part of changing the idea that AAA games exist on iOS will need to come from the marketing side. A company like EA will spend the money on a print ad for say a 3DS or Vita game, but won't for an iOS game. So even on their marketing end, they're not treating their iOS games on the same level.

Can't wait to hear which apps are getting retina updates. Do devs now have the necessary tools to start working in the new iPad res?

Kids vs Goblins is out tonight, very excited to play it. Hopefully it ends up more like Battleheart (with a story) than Raid Leader.

The 50mb limit is fantastic news. I'd love for Mario and Jackson to share their opinion on this.

Still trying to work out the implications from a development perspective for us. We want to approach this cautiously as there may still be a psychological barrier for downloading bigger apps, even if the practical limit has moved.

In terms of what it means from a content perspective, if one was to use the full 50MB, you'd be getting about a 4 to 5 fold increase in the amount of content you could include compared to before (given there is overhead in the exe size, DRM, included SDKs etc). That is a pretty big jump in terms of the richness of experience you could provide.

Sales wise, we have a couple of games over the 20MB mark that I'd expect to see higher sales (being over 20MB definitely had a negative impact).

Overall, this is a good thing, and will positively impact our games including legacy titles we were looking at updating.

For me, this means that I can relax a bit on the music compression, and add a bit more music. I'm really happy about that.

The size of the rest of the assets is pretty much set in stone though.

Just ordered it, I hope that new IB Dungeons game comes out soon. And I hope FFT isn't as bad with touch as some say.

I played it a bit on my iPhone, I didn't think it was that bad. I think it will work great with the size of the iPad. And IB:D will be the first IB title I will play.
