The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Only Pocket has async (grrrr @ TTR not being universal). It's GC-based with everything that goes along with that (notifications disappear once you've seen them). Pretty good async game in general though and the GAF community is decently active. In terms of current board-game activity on GAF I'd put it at:
1. Carcassonne
2. Ascension
3. Nightfall (new hotness factor)
4. TTR Pocket
5. Tigris & Euphrates (just b/c I've been bugging people to play it :P)

But it's super easy to drop in to the BG thread and get games started, or just send out invites to people on the spreadsheet, especially for a popular game like TTR Pocket. Game itself you can probably learn in about 10m.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the term asynchronous - I tout it meant you can play the game without being live with other players, like you take a turn and leave it, while others play.

ascension allows that doesn't it? And carcasonne, I thought.

Edit: oh you're talking about TTR versions. Disregard!

There is no way I'd donate to any iOS game without explicit knowledge on how it'll play. That Kickstarter is way too vague.

500k on a completely unknown developer.

No, thanks.
Technically, you aren't donating since you'll be getting a copy of the game (which I'm assuming will be $10).

An Ryan Payton isn't unknown- he was Kojima's right hand man at Konami for the recent Metal Gear games.

Any gaffer loving hunters 2? I'd like another tbs after playing civ rev. Does anything nudge out hunters 2 as best tbs on the platform right now?

LOL "kickstarter"... The new catchphrase of gaming, eh? Sounds very...intuitive and visceral, even if the notion is...clunky and janky.

I bought Infinity Blade 2 yesterday. It has much more content than the first one, but some enemies are impossible to beat when one is at low levels -_- The thing that ticks me off about IB2 is that i am unable to sell my inventory weapons.

This week's IB2 update will let you sell your final copy of an item if you want.

Thanks for the quick replies. Sounds like a safe buy. Reminds me of 40k so I can't go wrong either way. Looks like i'll have to read up on Ravenmark as well.

I'm loving the pc and ipad combo. Got the smart stand right next to my monitor. Great for momemts in between Counter-strike, starcraft 2 and Mass Effect 3.

I love the iPad as a gaming platform. It really has leveled the field for development of unique and interesting experiences. The amount this thread gets bumped these days really shows that there is a certain positive future for iOS gaming among the gaffing community. The platform definitely scratches the classic pc gamer itch for me.

Does anybody have an asynchronous co-op game that they can recommend? I'm a little tired of playing against my friends and would like to partner up with them for a change.

Forbidden Island (ipad only), Operation Eradicate come to mind. Both boardgame-ports, both good. (Forbidden Island probably better and more user-friendly though :p )

Just read the description of TTR Pocket. Drat! I hoping it doesn't look like shit on the original iPad at 2x.

Already active on the top three games. ;)

I think I should've posted this question there...

I can vouch that the Forbidden Island board game is fun to play. I'm not sure if I'll buy the app but maybe on a whim or a sale (because I already have the board game).

FI doesn't have online play though right? That game is excellent -- the implementation in particular is very nice.

Operation Eradicate is a Pandemic clone that is pretty jank (you better know how to play Pandemic going in) but for some reason I enjoy it, and it has async too.

TTR is terrible for async anyway. So little happens in a turn.

Yeah but that's a condemnation more of TTR than of its suitability for async -- there aren't that many turns overall. It's not like Nightfall where you can have like ten microturns within a turn.

Technically, you aren't donating since you'll be getting a copy of the game (which I'm assuming will be $10).

Not really sure how they are going to facilitate that given both the process and the fact each copy will cost them money to distribute.

It works just fine, but Days of Wonder stupidly broke the game into two incompatible versions that don't connect in any way.

Actually, iPads and iPhones can play local multiplayer together, I did this last week. Why the iPad version doesn't have async play, I'll never know, but I'm assuming it's coming.

Mushihimesama Futari, aka Bug Princess 2, is just a great game to have on my iPhone. I have all the Cave iOS games already, but this one in particular has such great music and colorful graphics, I really can't believe I have a game like this portable.

Can't the same be said of Carcassonne or chess? TTR is fine for asynch. It really needs to be universal though.

Not really. With chess and Carc there is still at least some strategy thought needed each turn. With TTR you can have many turns where all you need to do is pick up train cards.

I've played 3 TTR games with GAF and only one of them ended. With the other 2, someone must have eventually got bored and stopped making turns. That rarely occurs with Carc.

I just don't think TTR is a good asynch game.

I have 3 Monster Flip codes to give away.

First 3 to quote this post get one.

If you miss out, you can try out Monster Flip Lite here.

Thanks Mario!

Hint for the W.E.L.D.E.R. code since it's pretty obscure: MMA

If no one figures it out I'll post something else tomorrow.

Santiako can't claim the code because it's U.S. only, so he's graciously letting the sweepstakes continue at maximum promotional effectiveness for a game I have no part in. I hope you're taking notes, Mario. :)

The first person to post a picture of Bob Sapp's album cover wins the W.E.L.D.E.R. code. That way we all win.

Can a Canadian claim the prize? Thought I would join in on the fin.
