Got Subway Surfers just now and I like it a lot more than Temple Run. They're similar gameplay wise if not identical but I thought Temple Run looked like shit. I like the art style of Subway Surfers a lot more and hence why I'm keeping it on my phone and deleted Temple Run a long time ago.

To anyone who has Jubeat Plus for their iPad (with the Japanese account and all), are you able to access the store in-game? I wanted to restore some purchases, but it's not letting me in the store at all, but instead giving me this:

What does that mean? I'm currently logged into my Japanese account on the app store, which I thought would fix it. Any ideas?

It says to update it to the latest version

What Jubeat Plus packs are worth buying. I've got music packs 2, 6, and 20. No regrets on any of those.

If someone else bought/is planning to buy Plague Inc., please let me know if you liked it as much as I did. See above, I can only recommend it :D

Okay I played it for a bit, here's a short review:

TL;DR: Pandemic on steroids, a lot of fun, perfectly executed for the platform, a LOT of customization, everyone should get it, especially for the .99 launch price.

Longer:

There are 3 difficulty modes and 7 (yes, more than pandemic) types of infections. From Bacteria and Parasites all the way to nanoviruses and biological weapons, all with their special abilities. To unlock them all you have to beat the game with the previous type, standard stuff. The game starts. You pick your starting region, preferably something with a harbor or an airport. How developed the country you pick is plays as much of a role as how densely populated or how hot. There are A LOT of countries/regions to pick from, more than 50, I love it. But then the fun part begins. As the game goes on, yoy accumulate "DNA points", which you use for several things, more soon.

You get DNA points from a) your disease infecting/killing people, you get those points automatically. B) every time a new country is infected and sometimes randomly, a little bubble pops up that you have to click and collect points. It works well, trust me, and you get them often enough (if your disease is successful :p) to keep you clicking.

The core of the game is your disease. Like in pandemic, you evolve your disease with different characteristics that affect transmission, severity and lethality. Transmission will effect more people, severity and lethality slow down research by... Well, killing people. It's also the end goal :p if you kill everyone infected too fast though, then there will soon be no infected left and you fail :p

There are A LOT of options. They go from simple "heat resistance, air transmission, fever" to a whole TREE of stuff. If you evolve anemia, more options pop up that cumulate in e.g. Hemorrhagic shock or tumors. You can often get to a characteristic from different origibal symptoms, allowing quite a lot of customization. Overall, there are A LOT of options'ways to evolve your diseasr. And always keep in mind to develop some resistances against the cure research, or else you'll fail :p also, some characteristics increase the chance for spontaneous mutations, helping you along ;)

Boy, this escalated. TL;DR at the beginning, i HEAVILY recommend the game. If you liked Pandemic you'll LOVE this, if you never played Pandemic you NEED this. Ask me questions if you have any. ;)

You convinced me. I'm getting it.

Let me know how you like it please, I hope I didn't oversell it. But I REALLY enjoyed it. :P

Well, you sold me too. I never played Pandemic but was very curious about it. Only thing that kept me from checking it out was I kept reading about a steep learning curve for newcomers. Look forward to fooling around with this one.

Some equipment including a set to
open the Vault of Tears
, an excuse of an alternative path with 3-4 new bosses, a few new enemies (mostly reskins but there's one new enemy type afaik), treasure maps which are largely useless...

I actually think that the best new addition is that more bosses use magic now.

So, my kids have finally plowed through all of Angry Birds, and we're looking to pick up a few games ahead of a long vacation road trip in a few weeks. They're ages 7 and 9 and lean in the casual gaming direction, but there's just a hajillion games out there and I have no idea where to start. Any suggestions for games or sites to help?

We have an iPad 2.

Cut the Rope and Where's My Water. Both appeal to the same kind of audience as Angry Birds, but are better, in my opinion (and I like Angry Birds).

Angry Birds Space is also a good choice if you don't already have it. Unlike Seasons and Rio, which are mostly just aesthetically different, it actually implements a new gameplay mechanic (gravitational fields) that changes how the game plays.

New Orbit: buy this thing while it's on sale, especially if you were into PC adventures during the early 90s. This is a sorely overlooked gem. The voice work can make you cringe at times, but the game is really, really cool otherwise. Definitely in the vein of Waking Mars in terms of exploration over combat.

I asked on the Toucharcades forum..but I guess I'll ask here too. About how long is one play through. I finally tried the flash version of Pandemic and it ws a bit fun at first, but then it's just all waiting. Not sure if the game is my type..but your excellent review got me curious...

If you're after Konami originals, jukebeat is pretty much caught up to nearly everything through the copious packs. I'd probably stick to jukebeat since it's a lot cheaper for us in the states to get packs for that. Otherwise, I'd probably either look at the copious packs (newer than the stuff in jukebeat) or just go with whatever license/covers attract you.

I'm currently playing the hell out of the Nico Nico music pack that just came out on Friday, for reasons that should be pretty obvious given my post history.

I got Big Win Hockey yesterday and haven't stopped playing!! You don't actually play the game but watch/manage your team using cards, contracts, and stats.

It's okay. Way too short, it ends when things are about to get interesting. Doesn't look like they will release more episodes.

Edit: actually, it looks like the dev IS working on the next episode. Cool, I'll probably buy it, the story is interesting.

You just talked me into buying it.

I'm sure it will be ages before I actually play it though. I tend to buy any good games that are excellent deals whenever I see them. My iOS backlog is gigantic.

Not too long, maybe 30mins-1h? I constanrly had thinga to click (e.g. The dna-point bubbles or actually evolving) until Everyone just started dying instead of infecting others and I lost :( i wouldn't say the learning curve is steep, but you WILL most likely lose the first few times, until you have a feel for how the disease should be at what times.

You can also LOSE a characteristic by devolving if you feel it is too deadly atm, just fyi ;)

Is this no relation to the boardgame or it's based on a flash game that is related to the boardgame?

The flash game and the board game have nothing in common (apart from being about a disease, hence the name), so I'm tempted to say they're completely unrelated. One is a single-player game in which you are the disease and have to evolve, one is a coop-multiplayer game in which you have to fight the spread of a disease and fight zombies. Eeeeh.

GTA 3 or China Town Wars?

I find gta3 doesnt really work so well on iPad. First, in order to turn the camera you have to touch the character/vehicle and drag, which is quite a reach. Second, the autoaim lock on really isnt working for me. I have yet to figure out how to toggle between targets, so it becomes a matter of just killing everyone until the lock on gets the right guy (and since rotating the camera is such a chore, it makes it that much more difficult). Lastly, I can't even figure out how to drive and shoot (another command that originally involved R2/L2, so maybe I'm just missing something here).

Other than these core issues, the game is amazingly competent. It looks great on my iPad 2, it runs flawlessly, and the remainder of the controls work well for me (though as with many other virtual sticks on iPad, I find the size of the stick a little too large, requiring me to drag my finger more than I'd like to get the character to move). I find driving around the city and listening to the radio quite enjoyable, while even the early missions give me problems because of the camera and shooting controls.

I haven't played more than 5 minutes of Chinatown Wars, but it certainly seems like the better choice for the platform. The simpler camera alone removes so many issues. That said, I will still buy Vice City (my favorite GTA) if it ever comes out, if for nothing else but to cruise around, listening to the radio.

This was my mistake in my second game - I made my disease too deadly, and everyone died before they could spread it any further - hardly anyone was around to work on a cure though. The first time, they managed to develop a cure. I think I need more practice!

Sorry if this has been asked (I looked!), but is Autumn Dynasty playable on a 1st gen iPad? Seems interesting and the response seems pretty positive. Love the art style, too.

Let me know how you like it please, I hope I didn't oversell it. But I REALLY enjoyed it. :P

I enjoyed Plague Inc. quite a lot. I ended up playing until almost 6 in the morning (so around three hours.) My strategy was to keep the plague benign until I had infected pretty much the whole planet. I noticed the researchers weren't particularly interested in researching the disease until it was very, very widespread. Then I dumped my dna into making it deadly. As everyone had it already, it was only a matter of time until doomsday. Countries were decending into anarchy, in which no research occurs. It was glorious.

Then it crashed. This was probably due to not rebooting before I started so I'm not ready to lay the blame on the game yet. When I went back into the game, there was no save and I had to start all over. The only option to save, is save & quit. In lieu of periodic auto-save, which really should be mandatory for a game like this, they could at least give the option of saving without quitting to the title.

The game has a really good flow.

I played it on the iPad and took full advantage of retina pad. The news bar gets in the way, though I expect that will be remedied when a universal version is out. Another thing that annoys me are the pop-ups. They almost always occur as I'm about to click a dna and when I exit out of them, my dna that I was about to click disappears. This is most annoying late in the game when dna was coming in very, very slowly and it could be vital.

All in all, it's very addictive. I feel I've definitely got my dollar's worth out of it already and I am by no means finished.

No personal experience, but the dev posted this on TA :

We developed this with the iPad 1 in mind actually While the iPad 2 and 3s run Autumn at 59fps, iPad 1s are still do respectably at 30+ fps for complex battle situations. Hope this clears things up!

I played through the first two missions. It works quite well on the iPad 1. Everything is very smooth and responsive. Looks great. I can't see one of those brushes or even a stylus being practical; you use that second finger way too much.

It works very well. I really like Autumn Dynasty, though I haven't yet been able to spend the time with it that I would have wished.

Sweet, thanks guys. Gonna drop my $5 and check it out. I'm glad that devs are taking a chance not only with a organically developed RTS but with the premium price point. I'm one of the weird people who wouldn't mind seeing more $5+ games become popular.

With quality like Autumn Dynasty, I wouldn't either.

I bought Plague Inc. this morning and mucked around with it on the train for a while. The best way to think of it (if you haven't played the other game it's apparently like) is the game in Wargames (Global Thermonuclear War), but with genetic warfare rather than nuclear.

So good. I feel like a bit of a cunt playing it, though! Especially ashamed when the London Olympics started and I did a little fist-pump :/
