well... broken or (boss) characters like saiki are fun to play with but are honestly a pain to deal with in ranked matches. So for competitive play they should be banned...

i say keep dlc characters available for player matches and player tournaments but for ranked matches... keep it fair and balanced.

i dont want to see teams of Saiki, EX Iori & K' all over the place.

I think its too early to jump to the conclusion whether they're broken or not. Easy to Use =/= Broken, as specialist characters and/or a solid game plan have put them down in the past

Seriously I don't get why people still freak out about Flame Iori after we've seen him in action. Claw Iori is so much more of a threat. I mean the guy is ALWAYS in your face.

I blame EX fireball. Also, people seeing him being really good already without realizing that it's pretty much the same character people have been playing for a decade with new, good tools so of course he's gonna look beastly. Maybe.

Didnt SNK come out and say that the DLC characters would be really good because they want people to use them?

Yeah, but really good =/= broken.

Yes, not broken though.

Of what we have seen so far EX Kyo and EX Iori seem like very solid characters but not much more powerful overall than XIII Kyo and Iori (imo they seem weaker).

I guess Seth should be banned SF4 as well. And Gouken and Akuma. Plus Balrog Vega Sagat and Bison were bosses in SF2, they should be banned as well. Plus Oni and Evil Ryu, they are basically Goku and Vegeta.

I distinctly remember people here wanting to ban Seth during SF4's early days.

If i remember correctly CPU Seth is different from the playable version.

Is too early to talk about tiers and banning lists.

I don't see how you can say anything either way until people have had extensive playtime with the characters.

France and maybe some other countries in Europe had banned Seth and Gouken back then, lol.

Overreactions to Flame Iori while people seem indifferent to Claw Iori despite him having received only minor nerfs from the arcade and having proved really effective until now don't make much sense to me.

It's not really about banning overpowered characters. Tournaments ban dlc characters because you can't learn to defend against them if you don't buy them first and not everyone is willing to buy characters.

In which modes do you unlock colors in the game ?

This..
I mean normal Iori right now is a very good char .
Yeah Flame Iori might be cheap but no worst than how he was in other games.

I've not really paid attention to KOF after the debacle of 12 and with all my UMVC3 dedication, but I know 13 is good.
My go to cast were Andy/King/Kyo/K'/Chris/Terry/Iori/Shingo/Oswald in the old games. Mainly K'/Andy/King though...

Any advice for someone ready to go back in? Also are strikers back or are there no assists in this game?

Nobody banned Jill and Shuma. Nor the BB characters before CS2 either IIRC.

No assists, inputs might a little strict at first.

I know right. I can pretty easily do the first 3 or 4 with each character, after that the timing gets so crazy. Sometimes I can get lucky by mashing the buttons during motions and stumble on some shortcuts. :p

Saiki (and Billy) are not DLC, and the entire game is new to mostly everyone. Even if you assume that everyone is familiar with the arcade version and take into account that people won't be experienced with the new characters, the first major is NEC. It's Dec. 3rd, about two weeks after the game has come out. That's plenty of time to learn 2 characters, especially in a game that won't have that high of stakes. And before someone brings up MK, the only reason DLC characters are banned for awhile is partly because everyone knew there'd be bugs and oversights when they first came out (not a knock to MK, just how it is).

It sad, if the inputs were like KOF XI, I don't think people would be complaining as much about the trials.

No, they were banned because it was released after the cut off date for DLC.

So I got Mature and Leona. One spot left. EX Iori is probably going to be it but need a filler in the mean time. Thinking either King or Yuri.

So is this game footsie heavy or do you rush it down like crazy out there? Also are we talking long combos without burning that Hyper thingy or are we talking SF one-sy two-sy small combos and seperate here? Also how powerful is zoning in this?

Really trying to see where KOF has gone since my years of mashing it out on MAME back in 2000 on a keypad. I eventually upgraded to the actual discs and now own most of them, but I never followed the actual meta of the game so probably played it wrong (though K is awesome at everything from what I could remember).

Just trying to get the feel here.

Generally, you'll want to rushdown and keep up the pressure, and this game is more combo heavy than the earlier ones, but i doubt most of us will be able to do those anytime soon.

You don't really "get" the game until you sit down and play it with others, though.

Zoning is important, especially with some characters, there's a neutral game, but it's not the ground game of SF. The thing with zoning is you can't combo off of zoning, and good combos mean you gotta be on point to do it.

Combos are a bit longer then SF, but not as long as Blazblue.
