The Last of Us' autosave has a glitch. Read if you're playing. [Apparently fixed]

Read my fucking post - I'm asking for an apology. Every single statement they've released so far says they've addressed the issue - great. And no offence - but don't tell me what to do. I bought the hard back guide and the Ellie edition and have been anticipating it for months for a server side error to cost me 5 hours of gameplay and ALL I want is an apology in one of these statements.
Arne replied to you directly.

Are performing selective reading?

This is connected gaming for you!!

Also, lol @ people that didn't know publishers do collect statistics on what and how you play.
Its an industry wide practice --- that nobody ever talks about. At least its not anti-consumer stuff imo.

We are sorry for all the lost progress! It sucks but we tried to get it fixed as quickly as possible for that reason.

Thanks to all who helped as well.

thanks Arne.

I haven't launched the game yet – I assume I won't have to do anything special at this point? (playing this evening)

You waited months, bought the book, and will probably play through the game several times. One glitch caused one game to make you loose a couple hours.

One hard drive glitch (which happens all the time) will cause you to loose probably 100s of hours on dozens of games. Who will OWE you an apology then?

shit happens, get over yourself.

It is too late because I played the game for 3 hours and then immediately lost all that progress.

As did thousands of other players.

Oh boo hoo. I've lost more time than that on PC games because I forgot to save myself (before autosave even existed). I've lost a full days work on After Effects and Final Cut projects due to technical issues and corrupted projects.

3 hours is nothing. If you actually liked the game that wouldn't stop you. If this is enough for you to quit altogether than you must not have liked what you played so far.

"Hey Moobabe, our bad. Sorry 'bout that."

"You call that an apology? It's not even a tweet! I will carry this resentment with me until the day I can dance on your grave!"

Thanks for the quick fix, ND.

5 hours are nothing when someone has been anticipating something for months. Get a live, you probably lost more time than this in the crapper doing nothing this year alone.

To be fair, it's not like a regular linear game that you can make your gameplay up quite quickly in. Every moment is a battle, all the gear you've crafted, areas you've learned and stealthed and assets upgraded. I can well understand people being peeved at the loss of five hours. It's very intense and unforgiving. The thought of repeating those three hours I did is crushing me, so I'm taking a step back until tomorrow. Get some zen on.

I'm actually going to use it as an exercise to see if the AI does anything different or falls for the same tricks in the same places again :)

It's better than nothing - would be nice to have seen it in an official statement from ND. Gonna take a break now - might pick the game up again next week when it won't feel like I'm treading the same ground too quickly.
Like a press release or something? There hasn't even been time for an official statement! That's how fast this issue was resolved! Holy crap dude.

Thaniks for the heads-up.

Wasn't aware of this and it sounds like it could be a major pain.

Issue is already resolved, nothing to see here.

Use your head and try to understand, or even empathise. Firstly, defecating is a biological necessity and is also free to do, nor is it something I spend months looking forward to.

Jesus, calm down.

Entitled to a working product. Fucking outlandish concept

Good that they got it under control but that doesn't' give me my time back

What more do you want? A rub down?

Just calm down. Arne apologized. It's okay now.

Same problem here. Let's see if it gets fixed after rebooting.

Anyway, I will start over the game, with english voices. The spanish track is broken (too low volume for the voices, as many times happened with ND games before).

If that prevents the game from saving... Someone has made a big oversight in the engineering department.
Probably something like:

public void DoAutosave()
{
SendStatsToServer();
WriteSaveFileToDisk();
}

SendStatsToServer() hangs waiting on an overloaded server, the save file never gets written.
Quoting these two for emphasis.

Prioritizing the collection of single player statistics over letting a player PROPERLY AUTOSAVE in your code is not a good idea.

If that server or servers has the same problem pop up, the bug will return.

Lost any progress today?

As I said - it'll do. Yeah, I'm coming over as pretty brash (apologies for that) but fuck - what a waste of a day.

I know how lost progress feels. It is stupendously frustrating and somewhat devalues the game to an extent. However, the one truth is its irreversible nature.

You absolutely have the right idea to take a hiatus from playing the game and come back to it some time down the line.

Damn, I bet ND is so upset they lost your Redbox rental.

I decided to purchase the game last night from amazon after deciding not to buy it early from a local shop, but it was already too late for release date delivery and they shipped it this morning at 4AM.

If I ever get a save glitch in a game I just shelve it indefinitely.

good thing i was at work then.
Now if this day can pass faster so i can go get the game -_-

Also, i understand it suck to lose progress , but wow at some reactions i am seeing here 0_o

Cheers man - I think the issue would have been easier to swallow if not for some... choice posts in this thread.

If the game was shit I wouldn't feel half as bad!

This would cause the same bug:
public void DoAutosave()
{
WriteSaveFileToDisk();
SendStatsToServer();
}

edit- actually no it wouldn't, n/m. it could make a huge difference. top exmaple would autosave, wait, fail autosave, you notice it(meaning you could have lost [wait] hours, plus the time until you noticed it). my example would autosave, wait, autosave then fail, you notice it (meaning you lost the time when it happened to when you noticed it)

Wow at some of the responses in here... Damn, everyone needs to throw on some Bob Marley, sit back and chill a little bit... dayum....

and yes title update should be done, lol.

(Oh, for the record, I'd be pissed too, I'm just saying this is a public forum and all, lol)

Jesus, people.

"Never picking this up again..."
"I demand an apology..."

Grow the fuck up. Life's going to have bigger curve balls to throw at you than this before all is said and done.

OP, you should probably update your post to explain it was a server side issue and no patch is needed for the fix.

Anyway, glad this is fixed! Stoked to go home and play it after work!

Since the stat collecting code was probably not test with a big enough load (giggity), they probably never ran into problems. I would assume they will patch the game to make sure this is fixed, even though things are already working on the server side.

Hooray, nice to a see it fixed quickly.

I'm glad that I only lost progress of the intro, but I don't think I'll have any qualms going through that again.

I lost 2 hours and i'm upset but not acting like an arse.

And what do you mean "it'll do" - did you want Neil to come round your house and buy you a beer?
