The Last of Us' autosave has a glitch. Read if you're playing. [Apparently fixed]

Game developers gather save data all the time. Helps them understand how the game is played out in the wild.
Problem is that should not be done so it can interfere with the saving process.

Ah fuck, continuing the game from my last save point, and now I'm seeing the greyed out saving glitch in the menu.

So what can I do if I notice it during the game? How much progress would I lose if I were to quit right now?

Where ever the first auto save point that happened during your current play session. So I wouldn't try to make any more progress now because you will lose it.

I assume when the game boots up it senses whether or not you're connected. If it see's a connection it will be going through whatever server-side process during each autosave. It's possible that this process is timing out and maybe there's not a trigger to cancel the process if it cannot make a connection a set amount of time.

Again, this is all assumption and I could be dead wrong.

Not necessarily. Could easily be an issue with load in their servers or something that's clogging it all up. It shouldn't have happened, but it's one of those things they couldn't have predicted.

Save issues are one of the most tested areas for games, especially for the platform certification QA teams at MS/Sony/Nintendo. Many a time have I seen a cert report citing a save issue that blocked submission.

Just happened to me, was about to post about it in the OT before I saw this huge thread lol. Fortunately I was still within the first hour of the game so I didn't lose much at all, but still. Gonna play it offline for now.

ND's offices must be on fire right now. The bug is not critical, but embarrassing at least. It's frustrating to replay tutorial scenes where nothing really happens.

Plus it's important to keep in mind that Naughty Dog are using their own servers for distribution of this title and it's possible whatever process is being done at auto-save is also using their own servers.

Hmmm.. I guess that means staying signed out this isn't the solution?

again.. I played last night, and had no problems.. that was before any patch. And I have a review copy.

Will try tonight, to see if I can make this thing happen with my copy. I am at work..

Patched, internet connected: broke at various points.
Patched, internet disconnected: played for 20 minutes without a problem.
Patched, internet connected: broke within 2 minutes.

Another victim fellow GAFfers, I managed to save a couple of time but now it "hangs" in the auto Save at the menu.

I will wait until my Download reaches 100% (Digital Version) and then will unplug the Internet to see if it can be fixed offline. I just won't pull the cable now because I'm too concerned it may corrupt my Download progress or something.

Will report back then.

Definitely something to do with PSN.

Glad there's an easy fix to avoid the problem, shame that this happened at all though.

So I think Sony did this on prpose to troll MS nearly always online policy, had it happen to me patched and on line. I signed out of PSN and restarted, selected load game and i only had lost 5 mins so i was lucky i noticed it.

You don't have to unplug the internet, just sign out.

By this industry's standards this is a major bug. No game should release with a save problem, its normally supposed to prevent approval in ALL cases. Except of course when its your "own game" apparently lol.

" I don't have a 'verified' GAF account yet. Can you asked them to quit the game, sign-in and relaunch, from my behalf."

So to those who fixed the problem by staying offline, try and see if this breaks the game again or does it stay fixed.

*SIGH* just happened to me. oh wellz...good to know playing offline remedies it (for now). Wonder what that has to do with anything? Had a bug that caused Deus Ex: HR to not even load, but once offline, it worked perfectly. Strange

If my memory serves me right, in that embargo reviewers were specifically instructed to not connect ps3 to the internet while playing single player campaign of TLOU, maybe that was the reason no one mentioned this bug till today.

I was signed in everytime I played.. and I wasn´t instructed to play signed out (If I was I didn´t get the memo) and I have never had this problem..

going home from work now.. will try to see if I can make the bug happen with my revew copy.. will write back later..

Nope, I know various reviewers who were signed in and never had the problem. Seems to be a launch day server issue.
