'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

I really don't care about the whole 30/60 fps discussion at this point. I trust Naughty Dog enough to know they would do it if it was feasible - there must be clear (technical) reasoning behind it.

Well put.

Demanding 60 fps or bust for this kind of game seems senseless.

People complaint about the price. The game is only ayear old. Aren't normal GotY versions of game full price with the DLC included. I am sure I remember Uncharted 3 GotY being full price.

Yes, Game of the Year editions usually retail at $60 initially. People need to wait if they don't want to pay that much at launch. They even look more silly if they are complaining about a game that they've already beaten. It won't take long sales to push it down to that $40 price range. If the August 8th date is accurate you can bet by Black Friday you'll be able to grab it for $30 if that shit actually matters to you considering it's a game of such high caliber that has plenty of extra content.

Pre-order Bonuses

  • 100 Supply Points (XP) for use in Factions mode
  • Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after you complete the single player campaign
  • Increased Crafting Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
[*] Increased Healing Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
[*] 9mm Reload Speed Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign
[*] Rifle Clip Capacity Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign

"Preorder for easy mode!"

Why would you do that?

So dated late summer? Not sure how well PS4 will sell during June and July then

Thought it'd be an early summer title personally

Ah well I can't wait :)

I think something built from the ground up by ND will work. We'll see with their next game.

Infamous SS was 60fps, iirc. It just had some framerate issues when too many explosions happened.

Infamous SS is 60fps when you are looking at the sky. Typical gameplay scenarios are much closer to 30fps.

We will be revealing more detailed information about the upgrades for the PS4 version in the coming months.
I'll gladly translate this as "we're also trying this to work at 60fps, but we don't want to mention it right now, in case we can't."

How are people upset that it's $60? You realize it comes with $30 worth of DLC, right?
I don't care about multiplayer for this game. If there were two or more installments of single player DLC, I'd be totally on board. But just one? Nah. I'm still excited to get this and play this, just not at full price.

Great news, hope it's sooner rather than later.

Other than GTA5, this is my most wanted last-gen remake. Can't wait!

I would have held off on buying Left Behind had I known this was coming. Grrrrr.

And what's with the August 8th date being thrown around in here? Nothing has been officially set.

I'm looking forward to that (to maybe buy a PS4 finally. After all i finally saw one in store for the first time yesterday -_-).

With those upgrades, the game should look pretty "next gen" i guess. Better models, textures, light.. wow that's classy. I'd love more games to have this treatment.

I bought the $80 collector's edition last year so I'm going to make myself hold off until the remaster is no more than $30, but my next replay will be on PS4.

If August is true though that's a shame - games will be starting to come out again.

So the PS3 framerate was terrible, according to you, but you wouldn't be satisfied with a locked 30FPS?

nope. 60fps locked is what i require for modern gaming. pretty much why i never play console games anymore, thought it might be fine for tlou and it was really bad.

This is nitpicking, but isn't the point of collections such as this to include all the content? Splicing up stuff like skins and Upgrades in the form of pre-order bonuses kinda goes against that.

For a game that plays at the pace of TLOU and relies extremely heavily on graphics and environment design, image quality >>> 60fps.

Yes, you're totally right. 60 fps are for most fast paced games. 1080p is a great achievement on this remaster. It already looked gorgeous on PS3 I can't imagine on PS4 at 1080p.

This is my third buy of this game lol. Bought retail and sold it off after I beat it. Bought Digital when Left Behind came out. Now I'm buying PS4 retail.

People whining at $60.

Know ya'll aren't forced to buy it day one, right?

I don't think anyone who doesn't see value in this are any more wrong than those now rushing to add this to their carts.

I think $60 is smart pricing from their perspective, nevertheless. Get PS4 owners who may not have owned a PS3, and I can't imagine the number of folks going to trade their PS3 copy in now for a preorder or PSN card and no doubt Sony and ND expect that.

Hoping for June, but August sounds more realistic to me.

I'll be gutted if it 30fps as the ps4 is more capable than that. Can't see it being mocap related as these rigs usually run at higher than 60fps?

If it's $60 then that'll be about £45+ in the UK, given the new-gen tax and all. I won't buy it at that price because I'm not a mug, but I will get it at a reduced price at some point, because why the hell not. One of the greatest games ever made getting a PS4 remaster is enticing enough on its own. Think it's probably a good idea to sell my Joel Edition of the PS3 version right about now.

Why the hell would I want this in August? Too many games coming in the fall, nothing in June or July.

Number of factors combined I guess. June is definitely too close: barely any time to advertise the game and close to games like Watch_Dogs and Wolfenstein.
July is a month in which people can perhaps save money and than in August, also a very silent month, The Last of Us.

It makes sense to put it in August: very little competition and enough time to advertise the game.

So among AAA titles...

May: MLB The Show/Watch Dogs
June: Driveclub?
July: GTAV?
August: TLoU
September: Destiny
October: Arkham Knight/Ass Creed
November: The Order?

Not bad.

Drive Club won't be released in June, and same for GTAV. I expect Drive Club in October and GTAV next year. Perhaps we will get Media Molecules new IP this year.

Extremely disappointing if the 30fps talk is true, Tomb Raider DE managed to go nuts with the visuals and still almost reach 60fps, but I'll still double dip, even at that price, it really is that good.

But its not reality, its entertainment.

I'm not anti 60FPS in general, I just dont think it fits here. Keep it for my shooters and racers, but TLoU is styled to look like a film.

I dont know about you but I hated The Hobbit in 48FPS.

60FPS would work here. Period.

Not a game I exactly want to replay, but maybe a few years down the line I will which is when I'll pick this up.

If you're going to charge $60, then I expect all of the upgrades including the 60fps feature especially when the "other" definitive edition supports it.

Not going to double-dip despite the upgrades because it doesn't instill confidence in me when a PS4 is incapable of playing a last-gen game with at least 1080p/60fps. The stakes are high in ND and to completely omit that particular aspect is nothing something I would see from a First-Party Studio considering the awesome work Bluepoint games did for the rest of the titles.

Yup, I'm excited. I had a PS3, but I didn't get The Last of Us. For me, it was just a little bit too close to the release of the PS4. Now, slightly over a year later, I'll be able to play the game with additional content. It's still a new game for me, and with the additional content, $59.99 seems fair enough.
