My first playthrough on PS4 will be Hard + No Listen Mode. On PS3 I finished it on Normal, and I had the blast [although toward the end I had lots of ammo].

I went Hard+Listen Mode off on PS3 for my first playthrough and loved it, I then proceeded to Survivor and Survivor+ after that.
I think I'll go Hard+Listen Mode off again on PS4 for my first (4th) playthrough so I can get used to the game and buttons again and then Grounded for my second (5th) playthrough, I might try Grounded+ if I feel like it.

I'll echo what a lot of others are saying and recommend starting on hard difficulty with listen mode disabled. I feel this offers the best mix of challenge, ammo and supply shortage for new players without becoming frustrating. I would not recommend starting on Grounded Mode under any circumstances unless you are a glutton for punishment. I'd say going from hard to grounded would be ok, as survival I feel didn't really add much challenge after a hard playthrough.

Listen to these people. Play on Normal, or Hard if you consider yourself quite skilled. See what the game is about and enjoy the experience. I wouldn't go near Survivor or Grounded until you've beaten it already.

Definitely. My first playthrough was on hard, i felt like that gave just the right amount of challenge to keep my heart thumping, but not to the point where i was getting pissed off at retrying certain sections over and over again.

Hard + listen mode off is a heck of an expereince. I went back to it a few months after to replay the story again on normal, it just wasn't the same, I had way too much of everything (molotovs, health kids, ammo etc) and just felt way too overpowered. I wasn't scared or threatened. It was actually kinda boring....

It's the end of the world/apocalypse. You're wandering around scavenging. Does it make more sense to find a box of 12 rounds of 9mm ammo or a box of 4 lying around?

If the lower number makes more sense to you then start on Hard.

Wouldnt mind so much less supplies lying around in the trash, but what really irked me on hard was that all the bad guys are carrying around guns but none of them ever have any ammo... I got to the point where I decided Id rather not take half an hour to get passed 5 guys with nothing but a brick for the entire game. I just wish normal mode wasnt so easy to go from no supply to constantly maxing my inventory. Wish there was a middleground.

It might differ from player to player. My first, and so far only, run on normal had some sections, that I had to try to clear several times.

So it is confirmed finally then that the EU version MP will be censored again (thanks germany). I will go with the US version.

The UK version wasn't and won't be.

We want our children to be desensitised to death and violence wrought by a brainless zombie horde.

The might have to go to Liverpool at some point, best to be prepared.

When will we get any sort of footage? why are they being so secretive about this game. Its just a port, even a proper trailer? its like a month away.

Because footage would damage sales, not because it doesn't look better but because the footage won't reflect how much better it looks, especially when it hits Youtube. I wouldn't mind a few screenshots though.

Fuck me there's a mode that is harder than survival? The last level on survival took me forever to beat :( but I definitely want to try and platinum TLoU this time around.

I'd really like to know what version the Scandinavian countries will get.

I think I'm going to jump straight back into the MP. Looking forward to beating the SP several more times too, but I actually kind of miss the MP even though I thought the online trophies were a bit of a grind at the time.

It depends, the new Sony (SCE) seems to hold their cards close to their chest this gen - it's like they're waiting for the most opportune time - or it could just be incompetence of Sony's marketing department.

I hope they include a horde mode, or coop mode like in U3.

could see the logic in that,if only it wasn't for the bad guys having unlimited ammo mate.

In all the time i watched my friends play it, i never saw any decapitations or heads being blown away with shotgun executions. (UK version, btw).

I just confirmed via Twitter with the lead programmer from Naughty Dog.

60fps for BOTH SP and MP. Yeah!!! Now officially stoked!

Will be getting this game for sure. Never played it before.

What settings should I play the game in? I usually don't reply games after I beat them.

I want the ultimate TLoU experience.

I know nothing about the game other than it is awesome.

As far as I know every european version was censored.
The reason why many people thought it wasn't is because the stuff thats censored in multiplayer isn't censored in singleplay.
So if you're only interested in singelplayer you won't be affected by the censoring.

I would recommend hard + listen mode off for a balance between challenging and playable.

If by "ultimate" experience you mean the hardest possible one....then obviously Grounded, but as a first time player I feel like it will be an excruciating experience. You won't even have a HUD.

This is a fantastic game. Worth it for anyone that does not have the PS3 version. I honestly do not think it would be anything I would buy again until the price came way down. If you do not own it though pick it up! This is one of the best games out there.

Not quite true.. ALL EU versions had the MULTIPLAYER censored last time. And yes, it is still gorey, and blood gets everywhere.. but the competitive is such a close fevered rivalry.. that when you get revenge with a statement execution you really want that punk's head to explode or legs to fly off when you roll a bomb under him crawling back to his buddies ;)

They are saying nothing this time, so likely censorship beckons. Hopefully not, but who knows? I recommend buying the US which is Region Free and uncensored and cheaper..

It really depends on how you play games. Are you a sprinter or cautious? If you play games regularly, you could start on Hard and work your way up from there.

I wish left behind was edited into the game organically. It would have been easy to place it since it fits into the story at a precise moment.

That sucks.

I will start with grounded and not get through the opening bits and then delete the game and cry :'(

The school gym would be impossible on grounded. :/

1st play through was hard. The game certainly was challenging but I would like an even higher difficulty. Survivor was great but it doesn't really encourage scavenging since theres so little to scavenge :(

Enemies should not become bullet sponges in high difficulties. It should be a decrease in the player's health. Just saying in general.

No way. That isn't bad at all. What is incredibly difficult is
the dam battle with Tommy (which is far as I got) and the Winter segment with David when you're shut in in those two scenarios. Granted I never got that far, but I knew if I made it past Fall then the re4 style David segments would've completely annihilated me. Especially when Runners can one-shot you. Fuuuuuuck that. Unfortunately I also knew that if I could pass that part the rest of the game would've been gravy.

Wow. I'm over the multiplayer... I'm not the best player but shit, some of these people you meet... talking shit on the mics, thinking they're godlike and overconfident. It has totally put me off playing the multiplayer... I can't stand people like this, the fuck is wrong with people?

I played through initially on hard and the school gym was awful for me. I had to have been doing it wrong though.

The general consensus seems to be hard mode with listen mode turned off. I'd go with that.

Like the final battle in the gym with the bloater? Just make sure you have a molotov to toss at it and a couple shotty rounds for the couple runners that appear. Let Ellie and Bill handle the bloater mostly and when the runners are clear just finish the bloater off from a distance with either pistol. No rifle rounds. The molotovs severely wound the big guys. It shouldnt take many shots at all after that.

I started the single player on PS3 some time ago and had to put it down early in the game so I was looking forward to playing on PS4. I've never played MP; are you saying the mp community in general are a-holes?

I was freaking out (because I'm a wuss that gets really scared when playing horror type games) WITH listen mode. I can't even imagine what I would be like without it.

What is Listen Mode, and why is everyone saying to disable it?

It's a mechanic that allows you to see enemies silhouettes through walls....supposed to be Joel focusing and "listening" to the enemy....I never disabled it, I just never clicked it.

It's like detective mode from the Arkham games. It allows you to see outlines of your enemies so you know their exact whereabouts at all times if you want. It completely kills a major chunk of tension.

Basically it's a mechanic where you hold down a button to have your character crouch down and "listen", allowing you to see the locations of enemies within a certain proximity, even through walls.

Turning it off makes the game more challenging and more realistic, because let's face it, sure you'd be able to hear your enemies, you wouldn't be able to tell exactly where they are.

I feel tension because I know there's a monster that is separated by just one wall, that wants to eat my face.

Mute them and join another lobby. I've found that Naughty Dog MP games always attracts the biggest try hard assholes, but I've also come across some really nice and helpful players as well. Every game has its share of rotten eggs, so just try finding other people to play with and ignore the jerk offs.

That awkward moment when I ended up playing with you last night with my 2 other friends.

Push square to mute all, game gets much better after. Just stick with your team.

I always felt that it would have been much less off-putting if they didn't outline the enemies. Just make it so that you see sound waves (from footsteps or clicking/moaning), so you get an idea where they are, instead of an exact location.

I probably still wouldn't use it then....

You probably didn't play Gears of War at all, did you? Same concept. :p

But yeah, i normally mute all because I'm over that sort of thing.
