More like huge pain in the ass. I don't understand the concept of the harder the game the better. My first play through was on normal then on survivor and I didn't enjoy the game anymore or any less. Yes it was more challenging but never once did I think TLoU on Survivor was better than TLoU on normal.

Don't fool yourself.
I'm not saying it's better as a mode (although hard is unquestionably better than normal). I have completed TLoU about six times and want the Remaster to feel as new and fresh as possible. I haven't played grounded before so the game is going to be somewhat uncertain and unfamiliar to me, especially if the stories about different and more aggressive AI behavior are true.

Is it weird that I don't play games on any level above normal? Except for maybe racers. I'm at that point that it's purely for the enjoyment. Don't even chase achievements or trophies.

Worst thing about this game coming out is that I have been holding off replaying it... Can't wait much longer!!
No doubt.. I was about 2 hrs into a new play through when the PS4 version was officially announced. I quit and started playing the waiting game. Only a few more weeks.

No it isn't weird, and considering you only get a couple of trophies for your first playthrough anyway, who cares.

Hard Mode (Without Pussifying Listen Mode) With Headphones is the way to do it when your Clicker cherry hasn't been popped yet.

Some people find the challenge enjoyable, some people like the achievements, some people like the story, some people just want to kill things. That's the beauty of difficulty settings.

For me it totally depends on the game. I am going to look to plat TLoU, but I rarely plat games. Specially games that make you invest a ton of time into getting them.

I think hard is the sweet spot for most people. Survivor is fun but the serious lack of items kills improvisation. Better to go into Survivor and Grounded with some knowledge.

Absolutely true. I played 3 times (Normal - Survivor - Hard) and hard definitely has the best overall balance. You aren't absolutely flooded with items like on Normal mode, but you still have enough to keep combat varied and fun.

On Survivor you end up inevitably being forced to use the same tactics a lot (Brick ftw). Definitely would advise against it at least for a first play through.

Not weird, I'm not about that life anymore either. Don't have the time or desire to play sections over and over. I do make exceptions (Dark Souls, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta) but this isn't one of those games for me.

TLOU Hard is Normal

I know someone who had to quit because he couldn't play it because it was hard... ON EASY.

I don't know if I'm that good that I could beat the game on Hard and got halfway through Survivor (want to play it on PS4 now haha).

What's different in grounded mode than what's in survival mode. I heard less HUD and less bricks and bottles anything else? I remember someone at ND saying it was one of the hardest single player difficulties of all time, doesn't seem like it.

i play most everything on normal

some games, like bioshock infinite and p4g, are actually better on easy

this will be my second run for tlou, so i'm gonna go hard mode, no listen ability, nice big headphones during halloween time - spooky!

hmm...i thought infinite was best at hard. normal was wayyy too easy and 1999 mode was a little too hard

i usually start games on hard, and if i think the difficulty is hindering my enjoyment (like hitman absolution, uncharted games, max payne 3) i'll scale it back to normal. most games these days i find that the normal is more like easy used to be, and hard is more like normal used to be.

-No HUD of any kind, meaning you can't be sure of ammo or health
-Clicker AI is realistic, they can detect even slow movements especially when clicking

Other changes which are shared with survivor although may be more intense include:

-Higher enemy damage output
-Low supplies

You can add no checkpoints during enemy encounters.

The wiki says on Suvivor the enemies do double damage and on Grounded they do triple damage.

That may be a deal breaker for me. Some parts on survivor took me. so. long. to. finish. Wouldn't have done it without the checkpoints :/
(LOOKING AT YOU, the part during Winter where you are basically playing Horde mode with David)
Come to think of it I never actually finished the game on Survivor

Yes, I have heard that is one of the worst. Die and start all the way from the start.

Anyone have the full track for the E3 2014 Nirvana song they remixed?

I sort of prefer the Last of Us version over the OG Nirvana version.

Yes I know...opinions on music taste...how do they work?

I like both, but MY ears prefer the last of us E3 2014 version.

If anyone has a link to that version without the trailer that'd be peachy. I checked youtube, but had no luck so far.

At Sea's cover of Something in the Way by Nirvana I think this is what you are looking for.

Oh gawd. Why are they doing this to us?!?!?

I think I like it better too, but then, I'm generally pretty indifferent towards Nirvana anyway.

is the game even fun on those modes?

sounds like it would be incredibly frustrating...

I plan to play this game twice once it comes out.

First time on a hard setting of sorts, then the second time on this just to see how much I can stomach.

I love the sound of it, but I wouldn't want to do it my first go through since it may turn me off from the entire game experience if I get smashed non stop haha.

Some people like a challenge, frustration and all.

Hard mode isn't frustrating at all as long as you are competent at exploration-based adventure/third person shooters. Taking away the listen mode is the icing on the fucking cake. Especially with a good sound system, or the recommended headphones.

Yeah I intend to play hard mode first and get all the collectables. I'll move on to Grounded next and go for the plat. Even though I know certain sections are going to give me issues.

That's what I'll be doing, except no Grounded for me. Survivor next and I'll wipe that all out. I tried Grounded and it kicked my ass big time.

I will play on Hard with Listen Mode off for my first playthrough so I get a grip of TLoU again (it's been several months since I last played it) and then will move over to Grounded.
MP is going to be amazing.

tips for hard mode no listen? i'm guessing snoop everywhere for salvage and use melee when possible to save ammo

Yup and really take your time and try to plan out routes. Avoid fights where possible (use bricks & bottles as diversions to get past infected). Playing with a good pair of headphones also helps a lot. Make use of your actual listen mode, ie your ears :)

Oh god I wish they were in the game...

Would of been fucking amazing.

I would shit bricks if they were part of the game. Imagine a fuckin infected rhino or elephant. Yeeeeeshh!!

Though it would be really cool.

Aside from what Krayzie mention, you should learn the types of "combos" that you can do. For example, you'll stagger an enemy if you throw a brick at them, after that you can run up to them and punch them and they'll drop to their knee, if you aim your gun after that you'll get a free auto-aim headshot. So you'll only spend one bullet to kill an enemy instead of wasting multiple shots. And if they're near certain objects you'll be able to do a string into a melee kill without having to waste any ammo at all.
