'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
Ok, I'm willing to try hard mode with listen off - played through PS3 with listen mode on as I considered it helping me with situational awareness. But seems like decent sound design helps with that.

So,what headphones should I use and what setting in game? I can either use the Sony gold wireless headphones (and possibly tweak the settings), or use my sennheiser 555s via my receiver (either plain stereo or virtual surround).

i'm using hd-555s all day. so comfortable and they sound great.

i've never used the ps4 golds but i'd really be interested in how they hold up.

also, if i do end up using s mic: what is everyones favorite small ps4 mic?

Seeing Planet of the Apes grown over environments gave me such an urge to play this.

Really hope they implemented some good AA.

That just because SCEJA decides to bundle a game, it does not follow that SCEA decides to bundle a game.

That was not what I was trying to say.
First off, I'm not under SCEJA, i'm under SCEH.
Secondly, the reason i said it sld come out in the US as well is because SCEH is always neglected in things like bundles. Thus why i said would be surprising is US didnt get it. Hope that clarified things.

Yea i hated that about the players. Especially since its soooo crucial to communicate in a game like that. Wasn't there a GAF group for TLOU?

If there is, I need to get in.

True about the crucial part - you can follow people who are freelancing and help them, but that is not a actical approach.

I think someone mentioned a PSN ID exchange taking place a couple days before launch. Not sure if it'll be in the OT or have its own thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt there two options to play the deathmatch? As in one for actual teams as opposed to the other which is randoms being shuffled around.

Sorry if i didnt describe it clear enough

I wonder if we'll see a game with multiple BD's this generation. Maybe Uncharted 4, but then again, it was said that it will have real time cutscenes. Not pre-rendered like TLOUR.

I wouldnt be surprised if they did.Perhaps they might utilize the dual layer blu rays.
Witcher 3 must need more than 50 GBs....Surely

I wouldn't be surprised if the remaster has a smaller footprint than the PS3 game due to not having to include lots of high bitrate movie files.

Off topic, but how was the movie?

I enjoyed it thoroughly. Not perfect but very enjoyable.

Also special effects wise it was the first movie IMO to make Avatar look dated. Straight up photorealistic at many points.

We are only a couple/few years away from CG that it's 100% indistinguishable from live action. Awesome stuff.

I don't believe so, just re rendered.

In that case 1080/60 movies will be huge

Not 100% sure what you mean but there is a "no parties" mode in multiplayer on PS3.

Just checked the PS3 DLC - OMFG

I am so glad I haven't bought any DLC since like 3/4 of the DLC and its prices can cover the remastered version.

Whew.

For someone who has played the ps3 version on normal and found it quite hard..

do you recommend playing at a higher difficulty this time? And i remember some enemies can kill you pretty quickly as it is, what exactly becomes harder on harder difficulties?

i dont wanna go high as grounded though.

Well unfortunately the skills and weapons don't carry over to the remastered version. And buying those piecemeal are fucking expensive.

True that.
I've meant Left Behind + both DLC map packs + Grounded mode mainly. That alone is nearnig the price of remaster.

Yes, they definitely give you insight into Ellie that you won't get in the games. There are also things that she'll mention in the main game that you'll only pick up on if you've read them.

I'll echo this. If only it was longer. If they decided to drop Ellie and Joel for the sequel or they just don't make a TLoU 2, I wouldn't mind if they "live on" in a new graphic novel.

Playing PS3 MP right now and like, no one owns or use a mic...

What kind of chatter are you looking for?

Personally I love my Sony Bluetooth and my Logitech F540 for one very important reason. I like to mute myself and wish everyone else would too.

I speak only at important situations when needed. If we are being flanked, if focus by our team on one side of the map has exposed an opening that the enemy is taking advantage of, if I a in a firefight that I can't win I will relay position and information about that crew so that someone can come after them of be careful in their encounter. If a well hidden bomb/mine/etc is not easily detetcted, etc.

Outside of that I hate non in game chatter. I remember being asked and asking people in socom back in the day to keep the chatter down to a minimum outside of tactical info. The most talking should come from snipers relaying what they see. A close combat shooter sharing information about the enemies defensive position. If you see an enemy creeping along.

Or if player x needs to take a break, answer the door, walk their dog. Don't just leave, let us know.

I always said that if Playstation added a mic to their console that it would not change the culture of the typical playstation gamer and the typical (old school) playstation gamer doesn't just chat.

Chatter and trash talk was always left in the lobby and clan practice.

Even when I played Bad Company 2, Killzone 2, Socom for PS3, chatter was always a minimal thing and I would just mute gamers that talked about random stuff.

With that said, I miss push to talk.

Now that we are on the MP subject. A reminder to the new comers.

There are two ways to play TLoU MP.

1. Respawn: Just like any game, you die, you wait a few seconds, you come back to life. I really only use this for warming up. This may or may not be a favorite for some.

2. No Respawn: You die, you do not come back until the beginning of the next round. Even more reason to keep the chatter down, with only one life, everything you do and focus on is imporatant. This to me is the only way to play the game, one life per round.

Try both before making an opinion on the MP. One may or may not be right for you. But caring if your character lives or dies I think adds to the immersion and how serious you take your playing approach.

Also:

Supplies: Supplies can be more important than a kill/death ratio sometimes. If your linked to facebook, your supplies you gather grow your camp and keep your camp alive and healthy. I laugh every time I see a text that my mother in law fixed a fishing net or that my brother has completed working on a fence or that another facebook friend died from lack of food rations or medical supplies. No nothing gets posted on your facebook, its just an in game integration giving you real life people to protect and gather supplies for. Your not playing to win your playing to keep your camp alive.

You make it sound like you need to link Facebook for the clan/village thing. Facebook just names the villagers after your friends.

Okay. I am looking for tactical chatter - let me know what you see, lets cover, lets plan flaking. You know, talking in the game-verse.

I am sorry for the absence of push to talk for your sake, man :)

Tell me, who is typical ps gamer?

ed: I use wireless v2.0 headset aka gold and disable it everytime I don't need to talk.

I found normal challenging enough. It wasn't too easy, and I could still enjoy the game.

My second play through was on hard. Obviously the infected are stronger and Joel is weaker. The real challenge came from there being much less raw materials to craft or upgrade with. That is the real challenge, because by the end of the game, Joel might have only one attribute or weapon fully upgraded.

I liked it. It's short but helps to flesh out Ellie's character quite a bit. Lots of references to it in Left Behind too.

Saw this brief discussion and immediately bought it on Amazon. Hopefully it makes the wait a little bit easier before it makes it so much worse.

I got the season pass, but how do we download it onto the PS4? I'm assuming it would work like cross-buy.
I assume so. I mean, the downloads were just access keys anyway, so it may be just server side.

When the weapons came out, I was able to use them instantly without having to download the access keys.
