'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

It means that according to ND, the character models will have the same fidelity as the pre-rendered cutscene ones like this one:

You should be able to easily tell when you use the photo mode, or zoom in to the character in the game.
Tbh I'm struggling the see the difference between the PS3 model and the first two screens, only that the lighting is better in the cutscenes.

I guess it varies from person to person but i can 100% tell the difference even between the second screen and the third. It just looks more believable to me aside from the texture boost. I also hope the ps4 remaster has SSS at least in 30fps mode, it's present in the cutscenes and it can really make a difference.

The first picture is a terrible example to use for comparison. It's a screenshot from a 720p compressed stream, you can't even see the freckles on Ellie's face :/

The second picture, however, is a huge difference. More polygons (look at her nose and her face in the 3rd pic), better shadowing, more detail on her face. I'm pretty sure it has sub-surface scattering too. To me, the 2nd and 3rd pictures are night and day difference.

Can't wait for the photo-mode so we can make better comparisons.

Dude, change your avatar back to the blonde chick. Whats with this anime shit?

Funny you should say that, I was having trouble spotting antitrop's posts because theres no blonde chick lol.

On topic, anyone know anything about preloading? I'm guessing it's doubtful at this point but has anyone officially say no?

This just posted on the PSblog:

I love great video game stories. Today, the narrative potential of our medium has never been greater. The best video games blend world-class acting, writing, music and gameplay to create art that rivals the best works in other entertainment mediums.

To celebrate that point, I’m excited to announce an experimental project I’ve been working on with Naughty Dog and PlayStation.

The Last of Us: One Night Live

On Monday July 28th, one of last year’s most acclaimed games, The Last of Us, will come to the theatrical stage in Los Angeles for a special one-night-only performance.
One Night Live will highlight the artistry behind The Last of Us with a live reading of select scenes by the principal actors, under the direction of Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog. Scheduled to appear are Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes, and Annie Wersching. In addition, Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will perform selections from his score. How this all fits together will remain a bit of a mystery until it happens, but trust me when I say it will be a very special evening.

This one-time-only performance will be staged at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Monday, July 28 at 7 PM PT. PlayStation fans who will be in the area that evening can secure free tickets to attend the performance in person. Check the PlayStation Facebook page for details on how to register.

If you can’t join us in Santa Monica, select portions of the program will be streamed live around the world on Twitch, YouTube and PlayStation Network’s Live Event Viewer. And while it goes without saying, the event will include some story spoilers.

I hope you’ll join us on July 28th to celebrate The Last of Us and the creativity of the people behind it.

Sounds interesting if you are in the area or check out one of the streams. :)

The facial expressions are much better in that video I posted above. Note when Ellie says 'it can't be for nothing' and Joel says 'we're survivors'. Watch very closely. There are small subtleties that either have been added in or wasn't clear at 30fps (yes I know this is 30fps footage but you can still see a difference)

I noticed those too, it's been a while since I played that section of the game but I think I noticed if last year too

Yep, I've watched it a couple of times now. They're only micro-movements but they add an extra layer of realism. I've got a feeling 60fps is going to give the story new impact because of this.

It looks more believable to me too, because of the lighting.

The second picture, however, is a huge difference. More polygons (look at her nose and her face in the 3rd pic), better shadowing, more detail on her face. I'm pretty sure it has sub-surface scattering too. To me, the 2nd and 3rd pictures are night and day difference.
Better shadowing, sub-surface scattering - I'm putting these under the category of better lighting.

I can't tell that there are more polygons. I can tell there are certainly plenty in the second pic, as you can see the smooth curve of her nose slightly in profile (the left part). In the PS3 shot, it's straight on, so very difficult to see any curves at all, aside from what is created by the shadow (which is lower fidelity, as we agree on). So that isn't conclusive for me. 'More detail on the face' could be the result of the fact the 2nd pic is closer, higher resolution, possibly even a downsampled bullshot.

It doesn't seem obvious to me at all. I see better lighting, that's it.

Would be ideal if I got everything from the one that would make it and I just post it in his name :p

But that's the safe, uninteresting option.
It's the best option too.

Yep, built into the PS4.

I don't mind either of them but I found Rise's Social Link to be the least interesting.

Rise and Chie both had pretty boring social links, but at least Chie was interesting in normal conversation. Rise also had the worst personality of the bunch, which consisted of constantly hitting on the MC every chance she got. I'm a fan of playful, but she was just offering herself up on a silver platter.

OT: Anyone else going to play this with the commentary on their first go on the PS4? I'm heavily considering it right now.

Tess and Renee Walker are played by the same person??? I can't be the only one just finding this out...

I only recently found this out too.

Annie Wersching is such a MILF.

And then there's Bill (William Earl Brown), who I immediately recognised as Dan Dority from Deadwood -
