Tried to make it smaller cause it's kinda huge.

Yeah I couldn't fit it in my ass if it was any bigger.

AM I doing it right?

Socom didn't have a radar. Worked for millions of people.

I never played socom so I wouldn't be able to make the comparison, but seeing as these are 2 completely different games radar might have been a bad thing on socom and a good thing on TLoU.

I think more games should not have a radar. Its more unexpected and exciting.

Its too obvious, and you spend more time looking at the radar than the actual game.

I honestly don't spend a lot of time looking at the radar. I rely more on my hearing.
not the games listen mode

Terrible Gameplay from same guy, but you can see the improvement in the game.

While I'm glad he's posting this stuff...I feel bad even giving this guy any views on either of his videos just because of how bad these are. I mean, at least play the damn game for the majority of your vid instead of messing around on the XMB or options!

Actually you can, this is how that same section looked on PS3.

Thanks for this. Nice to see a massive improvement in the environment and character models. That blur looks pretty bad, but I'm not sure if that is coming from the crappy cellphone camera he's using or if he's playing at a locked 30fps or something else. FYI, not listening to the audio cause at work so I'm not sure if this guy explains that or not. I am assuming no...

I haven't played TLOU MP, but from watching videos, I think it's very team-based, strategic which is similar to SOCOM. SOCOM was all about working as a team to call out where enemies are, etc.You needed to communicate. TLOU seems very similar (at least I hope it is...it would suck if a lot of people don't talk). I don't think any game really needs radar, in fact it helps you improve awareness (i.e. check the usual camping spots, listen for enemy movement, etc).

This one?

Also can anybody who has played the game know if this scene was realtime or pre-rendered on the ps3?

That last image isn't in the PS3 version of the game. I'm wondering if they've added a scene or two because why would they rerender a scene that's not in the PS4 version?

And yes, that's the frame.

It is very team based and communication is essential. As of the radar, I think it should be there. Without it it would just be way too frustrating.

There have been many times where I have avoided being shiv-ed due to the radar.

Finally saw some media from this version and i think i`m satisfied. The most important aspect for me was better texture quality and filtering for the environments and they did that judging by the screens.

I really don´t get why there is still no official gameplay released from Naughty Dog.
Instead we get this poor youtube vid.
Is it really that hard to release a 3 minute 1080P 60 fps gameplay video?

TLOU MP is excellent, and this is coming from a big competitive player. I cut my teeth on Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and CS1.5/1.6.

The "radar" in TLOU is actually quite fair. If you're walking normally you won't show up on the radar at all. If someone fires a gun or begins running, it gives a general indicator as to direction or position but it's not specific enough to become a crutch like in Battlefield or COD. It's also possible to circumvent entirely using the in-game "perks". The same goes for the "listenning" mechanic. It's there, and you need to be conscious that it's there, but it's not powerful enough to be abused or become a crutch, and likewise it can be circumvented to your advantage using "perks". IMHO, the "radar" and "listenning" functions just help to give players without directional audio an equal playing ground. A good audio setup may serve you better in some situations than either of these functions will.

SOCOM placed a much larger emphasis on gunplay than TLOU does. TLOU is more about strategic play. Hitting headshots when it counts is still important, but you can build a character type that focuses primarily on crafting traps and/or stealth and still play extremely effectively. It's more about out-thinking your opponent than out-shooting them.

Darn it, just a fraction of a second too short but it demonstrates the subtleties very nicely.

Look at her searching for the answer with her eyes! Watch that tightening of the lips as she approaches the nods to verify to herself that she's making the right decision.

It truly is incredible when you take a few seconds to re-watch it over and over. I just can't believe its hand animated and not done the same way avatar, or L.A Noire was done, with the motion cap dots all over the actors faces. All those little nuances in the eyebrows, eyeballs, lips, cheeks are done by hand....it boggles my mind. I've already said it once, but I'll say it again, there are some ridiculously talented people over at Naughty Dog.

Whoever they are, they certainly know a hell of a lot about the human condition. This is beyond the usual Disney-esque over-the-top expressions and more like the excellent facial animations found in Frozen (a return to form by Disney).

Definitely. You can't just be a good animator and make animations like that, you have to have an eye detail and know how the tiniest movements in certain parts of the face can tell audience what a character is thinking without the use of just words. It's genius. We are incredibly lucky to have that sort of talent in this medium. It's just a shame details like this aren't widely recognised or appreciated.

This is why some people scratch their heads when we call this game 'the best game ever'. It truly is (for me) because of this very conversation, coupled with acting conviction and AAA movie dialogue. The story is tight but only there to give the characters a reason to change and grow.

God, I can't wait to play this again.

If I remember correctly Team Silent hand drawn facial animations due to mocap not capturing the little details they wanted.
