'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

the e3 trailer was awful. too many spoilers, too many cut scenes and simply not enough gameplay.

How NOT to show a remake/remaster!

Agreed.
They just said that many Ps4 owner didn't own a Ps3, so remastering the best game of Ps3 is a good idea, but then they show a trailer that should only be seen by people who have already played the game.
Additionally, the trailer wasn't a good pick to show of the upgraded graphics, since they showed cutscenes that were already higher quality than gameplay in the Ps3 version.

I really don't know what they were thinking.

Their choice to show cutscenes rather than gameplay is...silly. Well, actually they should have shown a bit of both. I am interested in how the gameplay will look better. Cutscenes already looked cleaner.

There was a pretty clear spoiler warning during the E3 presentation before the trailer came on. I, for one, looked away and muted the show pretty quickly.

If its like Tomb Raider I will be fine. But Im okey with locked 30fps also

I doubt it will drop as much as tomb raider. Naughty Dog seems to be specifically targeting 60fps where as with Tomb Raider it seems like they saw it running and were basically like "hey! this runs pretty good! we should unlock the framerate"

tomb raider wasn't 60fps A LOT

GAF will melt if it isnt 60fps :)

I don't understand how GAFers can have such short memories. The console standard has always been 30fps (with a few exceptions), and there's absolutely no reason for this to change this time around. Developers almost always choose to sacrifice frame rate for graphical fidelity due to ease of "selling" the game via screenshots and videos.
  1. Early generation = 60fps as games are essentially upscaled versions of the previous generation's games
  2. Mid/Late generation = 30fps as developers try to eek every ounce of graphical quality out of games
  3. Repeat
It's going to be no different this time around and the sooner GAF comes to terms with this, the better. Unreasonable expectations only lead to disappointment. If you need a high framerate invest your money in a PC.

except specifically when talking about The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is pushing for 60fps, so we're expecting it

I think spoilers are overstated. Many launch trailers have spoilers in them that you would consider huge after completing the games. However, before playing they're not spoilers at all.

I do agree that 1 minute of pure gameplay would have shown the game a lot better to the audience.

Glad I skipped this and GTA V, as both are the reasons I got a PS4 earlier than anticipated.

Meanwhile enjoying the hell out of Wolfie!

I don't think there's any reason to doubt them, given the caliber of the developer, the fact that it's an early-generation upscale and the fact that the game is almost complete. That said, GAFs overreaction when a console game isn't 1080p/60fps is just ridiculous.

Exactly what I was thinking. Can't wait to own both on the ps4 lol

I really wonder how many people did this? There are a precious few games that I'm still waiting on (Dark Souls 2 I don't see happening at this point), but GTAV and The Last of Us were both games that I skipped because I figured they would end up with better versions on the new consoles. Even some nice surprises like Last Light have ended up there.

I know folks have been disappointed by the slow rollout of new games on the new consoles, but I'm pretty happy with it. (Although theres a definite drought going on right now. One that ends quite abruptly once The Last of Us comes out. So many games from that point on...)

i assume it had something to do with re-rendering the cutscenes in 1080p/60fps, is quicker, and easier then showing gameplay that probably hasn't even had it's framerate locked down yet and is a work in process. they don't want to be editing a trailer made up of gameplay that blatantly isn't hitting 60fps

"The following trailer contains spoilers"

Logic suggests to not watch the trailer.

It was extremely stupid, but I have forgotten whatever they showed in the trailer and it had no context for me so I don't know what exactly may have been spoiled.

Just ordered this game on Amazon. I didn't even save that much money in the long run but it's better than nothing. Super hyped to finally experience this game the way that it was meant to be.

I'm honestly super excited for the multiplayer.

Who is the game for then? Only people that played TLOU already? It was a bad decision to show the trailer, even with the warning.

They forgot that statistic that 31% of PS4 owners didn't own a PS3 and that 17 percent of PS4 owners didn't own a last gen console; that was a spoilerific trailer to at least almost 50% of potential buyers.

I haven't finished TLOU yet (despite getting it at launch) and, as such, didn't see anything in the E3 presentation that was a spoiler. That may sound weird, but those scenes completely out of context don't mean anything. I don't know what happens in the story, so showing isolated, short snippets of random events in the story don't really spoil anything for me. If I had finished the game already, then I'd be able to tell what those scenes were referencing and would have known they were spoiling something. But I honestly didn't see anything that gave away anything that I'm aware of.

I agree completely, I wouldn't have shown a spoiler-filled trailer either, but you weren't forced to watch it at least.

Wonder what Arne thinks about that?

I think the 17% is part of the 31%. So 31% total. Your point is still a good one though.

EDIT: I'm wrong. 48% total.

I turned away from the conference at that point as I realized they were showing things I'd never heard of. Was definitely disappointed I saw a few plot points I'd otherwise have been ignorant of. But oh well... I guess the game's been out for quite some time. Something was bound to get spoiled for me eventually.

I'm guessing more than a little bit. I have zero complaints about remastered ports coming the newest Gen. I haven't played gta5 the last of us or Halo. I'm hype. Lol

I'm really happy about the rest of the year for my PS4. I've been so busy with uni courses that I haven't had any time to play anything. Hopefully there will be some good black friday deals for both this and GTAV. Even though they are games I've already played, I'm glad it's two good games that I will repurchase coming out this year instead painfully waiting for 2015's games.

yes, playing the mp @ 1080p 60 FPS with clean iq is going to be amazing

the mp in this game is very very good

That's an understatement, this MP is almost perfect
opinion, of course.
the seamless integration of the single player feels is amazing. Communication is key, one person alone can have a really good game but even that won't guarantee a win.

I've put nearly 200 hours into the MP and I still enjoy every time I play it.

First off, that 31 and 17 percent probably overlap. Secondly, it's a trailer with spoilers and is tagged as such. There are several TLoU trailers that do not have spoilers included. The people you mentioned will be fine watching those old trailers since the only thing that will be missing is better graphics to compare the two, as well as the fact that PS4 is their only option for this game unless they're going to buy a PS3 for TLoU, which would be stupid since they already have a PS4.

I enjoyed the multiplayer, but the graphics were just awful. I couldn't stand the jaggies and the low frame rate

TLOU MP is so underrated among Third Person Shooter fans and probably because it was always marketed heavily as a single player game rightfully so in it's own right. Hopefully this time it picks up even more on the MP side of things.
