The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

It seriously should have been tomorrow. Theres going to be a bunch of releases next week, and Sony should have just handled it like Infamous 2 the day before E3. I mean it doesn't matter as the embargo is up, so they could have done the reviews and praised the game at E3 regardless. This is just delaying it a week for no particular reason and keeping it out of the hands of consumers.

And apparently even street dates are being broken which makes a game like this that much harder to remain spoiler free until next friday.

It is a really bad spot for The Last of Us, the game is getting stellar reviews so it will survive by word of mouth and have legs. If it wasn't getting the reviews it is, it would be quickly forgotten and pushed aside.

Ill never understand the anger over a 7.5 or 8. A 7 is good and 8 is great to me. Polygon thinks it had flaws and scored it so.

A 7 is totally average and mediocre to me. It's a game you can skip and forget about. It's a game that left no lasting impression on the review at all; neither good not bad. Forgetable is one of the worst things a game can be

It's fair for anyone to give any game whatever review they want. But I wish we'd just not take Metacritic so seriously... it's such a buzz kill for everyone.

Also, be careful people! This is seriously the most spoiled game I've seen this generation if not ever. Bunch of people got it spoiled during the Konami conference (live comments).

I'm thinking of just staying off all social media till I finish it.. sigh.

I'd definitely agree that a 7 is something that is forgettable and doesn't bring any redeeming qualities to gaming. I find it difficult to think that this game is forgettable, shit even the Demo was interesting and memorable and that had 0 story elements. But whatever, you never know if the writer was just not in a dramatic/horror game mood, context is really important.

Yeah and sadly it isn't even safe here. You're only kidding yourself if you believe it is. Even posters who you think are pretty decent, cool people will fuck things up just because. Case in point: FACE ruining Infinites ending in the OT for no reason just a few days before release.

He reviewed P4G. It's why the anti-sony conspiracy theories were so absurd.
Apparently he reviewed Forza as well for a 6/10. I've never played that game, though, don't know anything about it and whether or not that is a fair score.

I have a strong suspicion that it isn't, though.

This game was not on my radar at all until I saw those scores. Hell I only came into this thread because I was bored.

Looks like I might be getting a new game.

This line of thinking is why Metacritic and review scores are so popular and effective.

Yea, it's absolutely sickening to think like that. It's just the power of metacritic and it's terribleness.

Game reviews are SO goddam important because not so long ago, the game review WAS the most important thing. There was so much crap out there and some of it wouldn't even work, so you relied heavily on reviews. Look at Xplay/ExtendedPlay in the past, it would be all over the place and a 1/5 was very prevalent. Because often times games would literally just not work well at all, be impossible to control or have game breaking glitches. It was essential to see reviews before spending money..

We've maintained that philosophy even though it no longer applies and it's pretty damaging to the industry. A review shouldn't be the deciding factor anymore, but more of a personal opinion and a guide (like movies).

So did something happen in the last 25 pages (Quarter to three giving it a 2?) or is it just GAF being GAF.

Just saw this. Awesome. Lol

I've never been to Metacritic in my life, it's just what I think. A 70% is a C-, it;s average.
I play tons of games that are given 5-7 scores and many of them I love. But, when people try to say a 7 is a good or great score, I strongly disagree.

Yes and removing the 2 kinect scores made things much more even, lol and no the 360 does not have a solid first party lineup. Half of what he posted were kinect games and another isn't even a 360 exclusive.

They made them closer yes, close enough to disregard an apparent obvious bias the site may possess?

And yes, yes it does have a solid line up. To claim it doesn't is nothing other than blatant ignorance and fanboyish. Sure you can argue till the cows come home if the PS3 has a 'better' line up, but to say the 360 doesn't have a solid library is silly.

Someone asked about the AI right?
It should also be noted that the artificial intelligence of the Infected is remarkable. While not exactly careful, Infected actually know enough to not charge at you in a straight line. During one moment, I was actually snuck up on by a monster, who turned and ran when I spotted him. He came back with a friend, and proceeded to dart from doorway to doorway, in an attempt to confuse me. Human enemies aren't quite that tricky, but they do try to outflank you and keep you moving. The Last of Us definitely boasts some of the best A.I. I've ever seen, and I'm very cynical when it comes to A.I. boasts.

btw, did any review mention the voice acting quality???
The quality of the audio, however, is without question. The music is haunting in its delicacy, a soundtrack that never imposes, but perfectly compliments each scene. The voice acting is even better and, coupled with the superb animation, leads to a cast of convictive characters, impeccably performed. Once again, subtlety must be brought up. These are not characters designed to chew scenery or spout liners, and their actors reflect that. Small gestures, slight nods of the head, whispers tinged with sadness, and murmurs bubbling with implied threat, this is the kind of thing that should be meant when pundits spout on about games being "cinematic" as opposed to explosions and special effects. Real acting. Genuine and credible.

I cannot even possibly quantify what a 7.5(or 8, or anything) is in a video game.

I would much prefer just an actual review of the game without a number behind it at the end. I do not care about that. Just tell me the pros and cons of the game, and what your thoughts are on the experience.
