Anyone see this?

So has this game dramatically improved since the extended 2012 E3 gameplay video? I just finished watching that it looked like about the most generic 3rd person action game I've ever seen. It didn't look bad, but I didn't see anything that wow'd me.

I'd like to hear your example of a non-generic 3rd person action game.

It's the atmosphere and story that makes games like these such compelling experiences. To put it into perspective, it's like comparing Twisted Metal to Heavy Rain. Twisted Metal looks a lot more enjoyable based on a few minutes of YouTube footage. I mean heck, you blow people up with your car. However, Heavy Rain is a deep narrative that sucks you in and will never let you forget what you experienced.

I find that people who enjoy reading and movies with good writing tend to love games like The Last of Us. Meanwhile, people who prefer stuff such as Expendables, Halo, and Gears of War find TLOU and similar games to be boring. Trust me, I have a real life friend who will ONLY play shooters. I couldn't get him to enjoy a minute of Uncharted 2, and he certainly hates movies like Shawshank Redemption. But he loves Halo, Call of Duty, and films directed by Michael Bay.

Even though these elements add a sense of realism to the game; alternatively, that realism is washed away through poorly designed combat elements. Our duo can often take out a room of armed baddies without breaking a sweat; and after getting shot over a dozen times, the only damage to show from it is having a small red blotch within eyesight. Alternatively, the duo can then "realistically" just duck for cover to recharge.

WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT? THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE GAME? Is she lying?

Okay... If you wanted to make the game see more real and focus on the vulnerability then it would make more sense that they would need to bandage up and flee from the fight until they recover.

But that's EXACTLY WHAT THE LAST OF US DOES!! What game/mode is she playing?

Clickers and Bloaters. These undead creatures can be taken out easily if they are alone, but once they are in a group, then you can become easily overran. Players will find that they encounter more human threats then zombies in The Last of Us. Most of the game's AI are awful and terribly unbalanced, but the exception to that is Ellie. She is a huge help in combat and offers crucial support when you need it. Ellie in The Last of Us can be compared to Elizabeth in BioShock Infinite; whereas for once, an AI is exactly what you need during gameplay.

In the end, The Last of Us is an overall enjoyable gameplay experience. The Last of Us suffered from a few flaws due to the unrealism of combat, the unbalanced AI and the lack of freedom as a whole. But in the end, The Last of Us delivered on the hype surrounding it and offered up an intriguing storyline smothered in realistic and intricate detail.

It's already confirmed that the creatures aren't "undead". Most of her other criticisms are so vague and not elaborated upon. Why is the combat "unrealistic", and why is the AI unbalanced. After pointing out the questionable aspects on her review I feel that this quite misleading.

What's amazing is that this game, despite the "divisive" nature of the grimdark material, is getting almost universal acclaim. It must really just be that good.

I think the Polygon review (I only saw the video review) is very good and goes into what really bothers me about these type of games when talking about the violence and sympathy towards video game characters. Plus, a 7.5 is no way a low score.

Joel should attempt to bridge the gap between humanity and the fungus people diplomatically. We gotta work together, man. Stop trying to eat my face and I will not shotgun your brother.

This review seems almost like troll bait. i mean seriously, I just played the fucking demo and the things she's complaining about aren't true. You don't recharge health. She must have been on some type of heavy drugs when writing that review.

Posted already? 10/10

100 In atmosphere and narrative, Naughty Dog knows few barriers, and turning their talent and craftsmanship to such haunting and profound subject matter will ensure that the developer is poised to continue its dominance as a premier auteur development studio well into the next generation of console hardware.

Nice, one more 10 and it hits 97. Five more and 98 :).

Not necessarily. Metacritic uses a weighted system. Last few reviews probably aren't major ones hence will count for less. Could end on 97 though. Funny thing is, if it wasn't for Polygon it could have topped the list.

There's an hour and a half of gameplay on youtube for anyone that's interested. Not gonna link it because there's obviously spoilers, but from what I watched, it looks really, REALLY good. It reminds me alot of Half Life 2 so far, in regards to the pacing, story beats, and such. The AI though, man... Not very smart to say the least.

The enemies don't seem to hear sounds at all. The guy playing could come up behind a guy standing next to another guy and kill him without the other noticing. Also, Tess would just run in front of enemies even though it was supposed to be a stealthy part. Granted this was not Ellie, who I heard has good AI.

Pm me the link I wanna see some more. People life is short those saying oh im gonna hold out till the PS4 version may never get to see it. Not wishing bad on anyone but something as simple as a 60 dollar game which is probably sure to entertain you is worth buying now. Life is short and tomorrow is not promised. I wish my dad didnt always say in due time because that due time never came. Cop dem gaemz noooow

Plus once the E3 hype dies down, people will be itching to play game of the generation material.

Yeap. Could probably swing more people in to buying a PS4 too if undecided. It's a statement game. Sony first party offerings, you want more of this in future, you know where you need to go.
