I did do the sidequests, but once I got to Bose I still didn't have nearly enough money to buy new armours for everyone, and hell I needed them to even do one of the newer sidequests (the scorpions murdered me when I was on my way to Bose, so instead of retrying I reloaded, geared up in Bose and picked up the quest before backtracking and then killed them without problem. I only sold some extra ones I had 200+ of, though. For some reason I was swimming in Mirage quartz and have almost no green ones.

Another thing you can do is seek out the shining poms in each chapter. They spawn in a different place in each chapter, but they give a lot of sepith/exp when you kill them, which should give you excess sepith to sell.

Here are the locations, taken from a post on GameFAQs:

Prologue: Milch Road. Exit from Rolent and move 3 Screens toward the Checkpoint. It'll be right in the middle of the road a short distance if you're following the path toward the Checkpoint.

Chapter 1: West Bose Highway, right before the zone line into the Krone Pass.

Chapter 2: Gull Seaside Way, Exit from Ruan, and it'll be on the first beach you come to, just past the path that leads to the Vista Forest Road.

Chapter 3: Tratt Road, in the area around the zone line to the Carnelia Tower.

Chapter 4: From Granel City, go southeast toward the Erbe Scenic Route. Continue onward onto the next screen. Here, the map looks like a perfect cross (if you hit Select and check the area map). On the left should be the exit/west to the Royal Avenue and on the right/east is the exit to the Erbe Royal Villa. The north and south points are dead ends. The shining pom is bouncing around at the intersection of the "cross".

I am not sure if it is fake or not? I read Gematsu a lot.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Evolution announced for PS Vita

Famitsu this week confirms the next entry in Falcom’s Evolution series is The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Evolution for PS Vita.

Due out in 2015, the game will have high-resolution graphics and full voice-overs, fully refined characters and visuals, facial expressions such as blinking during talk scenes, new illustrations, reconstructed movie scenes, font and mini-map changes, a full background music arrange, and better distant view.

There was a fake teaser site but it has been announced as an actual game now. There was one thread that was closed and another one that opened a while after but didn't get much response due to the fake teasing.

The other thing is that sidequests have time limits (time is calculated by advancing the story, not real time), so it's usually in your best interest to do them as soon as they pop up at the guild.
Yeah, I just kinda learned this. I mean I saw your warning, but I didn't think they'd fail so fast. I had 3 quests expire on me. For example I figured I'd do the Ravennue monster quest when the story would take me to that area, so I did other things, but when the story did lead me to Ravennue it had already failed. And later when I got back to Bose, it showed me a bulletin board quest about an escort mission and it was already marked as failed, but I never had a chance to pick it up. Pretty lame. There's no reason why these should expire so fast, geez.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Gonna start playing this. Is there anything regarding stats, characters, weapons, sidequests, etc I should know going in?

Don't expect to 100% clear it on the first go. As noted right above your post, sidequests can expire very quickly so you want to do them immediately as they become available. Not all sidequests appear on the bulletin board, some are started/activated automatically if you go to the right place at the right time. And to get max BP you not only have to do every quest, but clear every one of them correctly since some give varying amounts.

Quests are also your primary source of money, enemies drop Sepith which you can sell, but you also need it to make quartz. So you really want to make sure you do sidequests and not blow them off, or you might (read: will) end up short of money to upgrade your equipment.

The Bracer Book shows the element combinations for each art(/magic) in the game, so it's good to refer to that when setting your orbments.

Shining Poms are much easier to kill around the end of a chapter since you will have a level advantage. Trying to fight them too early could mean even your most powerful attacks (even while buffed) will do 0 damage. They give a ton of exp, Sepith, and can drop some good accessories.

I didn't realize the game had been patched to have a larger font size option, that's neat. There was something about the font used combined with the size that made it hard for me to read when playing from a distance.

Yeah, exact same thing happened to me, same quests. Caught me completely off guard and I just figured out that if you don't keep up on cash, you're screwed. There's this one boss battle I couldn't beat until I bought new armor. In the future, I'll be doing all the quests immediately.

This game isn't too demanding, right? My laptop has 4 GB of RAM and a core i7 and I'd like to play this. Probably a dumb question, but I'm more familiar with desktop stuff as opposed to laptops. And the crappy integrated Intel GPU always leaves me unsure.

Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: 32 MB VRAM, 3D accelerator compatible w/ DirectX 9.0c
DirectX: Version 9.0c

I mean, the game is 10 years old at this point so I doubt a modern laptop would have any trouble running it.

Am I weird? Because I find Olivier to be absolutely adorable, charming, and hilarious. On paper, he sounds like the most annoying and insufferable character ever. But I actually like him because he cracks me up. Must be a testament to this game's strong writing and localization, hehe.

I am in the final chapter, btw, just
finished preparations to assault the Royal Villa to rescue the princess
. About 40 hours in. I'm guessing I'm close to the end?

Am I also correct in saying that this is only the first part of the story, and Second Chapter is a direct sequel? It's gonna be a long wait...

Olivier is one of the most popular characters in the series.

And yes, SC picks up exactly where FC leaves off.

I don't think I've read about anyone who dislikes Olivier. I'd actually be pretty surprised if someone did, since he's too funny to hate.

I initially disliked him because I thought he was
some sort of assassin or spy sent to hunt Cassius's kids. I was partially right but he turned out just to be a lovable idiot.

I quite enjoy his antics.

I'm honestly having a hard time thinking of any characters I disliked in Trails FC, not counting the evil douche characters that we're suppose to dislike.

Olivier is the best <3

I never felt like Tita had much of a purpose. And taking her along never really made any logical sense.

Agate was on-board for this. For perspective, they contextualized this a good bit logically.

Uhhh.

Wasn't she the only person who had orbal engineering knowledge? I recall her fixing up an airship and a couple other little things later in the game. Plus she had to save her grand dad.

I was pretty much right in line with Agate's thinking, it didn't make any sense to take a small child along (especially given the situation at that point of the game) even if she felt like she had to help out. I mean, her goal was going to be achieved anyway. Was an incredibly dumb decision but you know, RPG writing.

Things that happened later weren't really a part of why she was allowed to tag along in the first place though.

Edit: Now that you mention it they did write in that convenient little "I'm the only one who can ______" thing. Which I'll grant you, but it didn't really add anything to the game other than provide an excuse to let her join in.

It's questionable why anyone lets Kloe, Tita, or Oliver come along for the final dungeon. This is especially true of Kloe as
everyone knows her true identity at this point
. In the end though I wouldn't let it bother me too much, in the end this is still a game and the excuse of "they come along so you can choose to use them in battle if you want" is really all I need.

Im really tempted to get it with the current anime discount on steam (12€).
I startet to read some reviews and almost all of the ones i've read stated, that the story in the game is not its strongest selling point.

So how do yo guys like the story?

I like it. It's not a "save the world" story, more like going on an adventure. Starts off slow but the payoff is immense. The thirst for the next game is real.

The thing about Trails in the Sky: FC is that it's a slow burner. Extremely so. The selling point is the sense of adventure: it's two young persons going travelling the country in hope of becoming pros. It's very mundane and not overly flashy, it lots of silly bantering and whatnot. If you cannot stand this and instead want action, then this is the wrong game for you. To m, TitS:FC starts off strong, then shortly fizzles out before grabbing my full attention again. Out of the ~50 hours or so(?) it takes to finish, maybe only 10 AT MOST felt a bit "Ehh" compared to the rest. And that was probably more because of the fact I more or less marathoned it, rather than the game itself. It was never uninteresting and I had fun all the time. Then again, I enjoy how unique it is. It takes its time, has character interactions and ever-changing dialogue with NPCs. It feels alive.

That said, I cannot wait for the sequel. That's were the payoff seems to come for real, or so people say (not like it already didn't in FC).

The probably simplest, but still terrible, way to judge if you'll like is: do you like slice of life/atmospheric anime? Good, then you'll enjoy Trails in the Sky. You don't? Buy it anyway because it's cool.

I wasn't very impressed by the plot itself, but there were some very good scenes along the way and it sets up the sequel reasonably well. I personally wouldn't recommend anyone to pick it up for the story, except in the sense that it's light hearted enough to not get in the way of the fun combat, and that the writing itself is pretty good.

For what it's worth, Trails in the Sky is one of the very few video game stories I've enjoyed, JRPGs included. That may say more about my taste and dislike of game writing than anything, but it's an indicator of Trails' different approach to storytelling. Not necessarily different subjects, themes etc. but a different approach to the actual storytelling.

I actually like this analogy. I much prefer slice of life Anime to any others. I even prefer slice of life Ghibli like Whisper of the Heart, Only Yesterday and My Neighbours the Yamadas to Miyazaki's fantasy adventures.

I'm re-reading the reviews and this is what I'm getting from the top 5 most helpful (excluding mine):

Unbelievable world building and detail, well-developed characters, careful deliberate pacing (although slow due to having to set up a huge saga as its first entry) and a well-written script all contribute to creating a world that pulls you in and is populated by characters you care about. Despite the huge amount of text in this game (yeah by the way, stay away if you don't like reading) I found myself savoring each and every line in the game, even those by random NPCs.
It's like reading a good fantasy novel, it really is the best world building and such work that I've seen in a JRPG, most likely ever.

Evil Eagles said:
Trails in the Sky, or Sora no Kiseki, is an expansive RPG trilogy with massive content - very well done world-building and well-paced characterization. The story begins slowly and quietly with Estelle and Joshua, along with a couple friends. The pace picks up during mid-game before ending with a fantastic finale. The story does well in holding an epic scale while at the same time remains personal where it’s needed, as Estelle and Joshua travel together and develop themselves. It’s pretty clear that Falcom’s ambition is to create a tasteful unified world for all of their Kiseki games. That is something I really value.

Good:
+Great in Big Picture
+Fully compatible with 360 controller
+Great music
+Good graphics (if you're into retro)
+Save anywhere
+Varied quests and side quests with interesting outcomes and unexpected twists
+Exceptional dialog and character development (even on "fillter" NPCs)
+Great, incredibly detailed story
+Difficulty level is right on - there are no ultra frustrating battles, but when you die there's an...
+Option to retry after wiping your party in battle (this is a HUGE plus for me)
+100% chance to flee battle

I personally found the plot one of the game's best points. As others have pointed out, it's not a plot where a hero goes out to save the world. It's a more grounded plot about two teenagers growing up and maturing and occasionally getting mixed up in larger events. The writing and the characters in this game are wonderfully written, and there are some genuinely funny moments.

And the plot is pretty strong, too. Each chapter presents a new arc in a different region of the country. And of course each arc gives you more clues about the identity of the big bad (
although not the biggest bad
), and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out who the culprit was before the game told me. There are definitely some parts of the plot where it feels forced, but overall the story is handled very well.

It starts out slow but picks up later on and ends with a cliffhanger that makes you long for the sequel.

I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm a bit underlevelled now, I do tend to skip a lot of fights after I got the Haze quartz. I just barely scraped through the first fight in the
Tournament
and the last few exterminations have been very close..Had a look on youtube for an LP at around the tournament..and 2 of the ones I found at the same fight had 1k+ extra HP on all characters..

Currently level 22,
Olivier and Zane
are 30 and 33 respectively...Should I just start grinding at this point?

Tita was the most unmemorable character to me and moreover felt useless in battle.

Who did everyone use for the final dungeon? I rolled Estelle, Joshua,
Kloe and Zane.

You might be a level or two low, not sure. The monsters in the sewer there are pretty fantastic for leveling up, if you are a tad underleveled you can probably get caught up to where you should be very quickly.

The other two characters are way higher than you should expect to be at that point. At level 33 he's probably not gaining much more than 1 exp per fight.

Yeah I just went in there..Estelle and Joshua got 144 exp for 1 fight..Zane got 3. Just decided to grind them to 30 there and that should be good for a while. Can get a few quartz made now too.

Agate and Olivier. Agate does great physical damage, and Wild Rage is just so damn useful. Then Olivier's an amazingly flexible arts user with loads of EP, a single line and no fixed slots, in addition to being my favourite character in the game. So I was happy to stick him in.

Estelle, Joshua,
Kloe and Agate. I was kinda bummed out that Kloe's debuff didn't do much against the last bosses but I still managed fine. I repurposed(?) her into a heal bot instead.

Just finished...Oh god..I should have waited til Second Chapter was already released..

Couldn't find Olivier at the end so didn't get the final dialog with him ><.

You poor bastards that played this 4 years ago and have waited all this time..

It's the same feeling I feel for A Song of Ice and Fire fans who read the 3rd and 4th books when they came out and had to wait 5 and 6 years for their sequels. I can't even imagine the suffering...

In the final fight I used
Tita and Zane. I wish I could have swapped Tita for Olivier or Kloe though, like BassForever said she was great against trash mobs but barely contributing in boss fights. Zane of course is the perfect tank, so he pulled his weight.

I would've preferred to drop
Kloe for the final fight, she did nearly nothing..I had Zane just nonstop casting Earth Wall and used my CP moves on the adds as they spawned, I think I took 2-3 hits throughout the final fight.

I can't imagine how crazy I'd be when it's the day before SC's release. I should just sleep through the whole day because of the excitement.

As for my final dungeon team...
I brought along Zane and Olivier the first time I finished the game. Didn't like that Zane was just tanking and not doing much damage on the final boss since it was kinda resistant to physical attacks.

Brought Olivier and Kloe the second time around. Kloe was ok, much better than Zane, but I'm still looking for someone like Olivier that just nukes everything. Maybe I'll bring along Schera for my 3rd playthrough. Olivier's just too good leave behind.
