Modern Space Police doesn't hold a candle to the OG. Hell even the Christmas-themed Space Police II was better.

First Space Police is best Space Police. Same goes for Blacktron. While I loved the Blacktron 2 stuff like in the above posts, they lost some coolness when they added the white to the black and yellow scheme.

The first Space Police was the best, course it was, but what I did like about the recent line was the alien villains. TLG are doing good stuff with their non-human minifigs.

So here's the pics of the finishing product. Really happy with it. It's a great piece.

Ahhhh - just found this thread!!! So happy! :D

I finished 10220 Volkswagon T1 Camper Van about 2 weeks back, and that was a fun build. The inside details are really gorgeous and well thought out. I also just finished putting together my 10214 Tower Bridge on Monday. That build took me a while (trying to figure out how to lay the pieces out was the first big obstacle...), and it was super repetitive. But holy cow was it rewarding!

I'm going to start on my Farnsworth House for my office. I already have Falling Water and Brandenburg Gate in there, so this will make a nice addition.

I've also still got the 5766 Log Cabin and 5891 Apple Tree House still in box, as well as 3834 Spongebob Good Neighbors at Bikini Bottom in the mail. I love the Spongebob series (the only one I really "collect" besides Architecture), and really need to find and pickup more of the older stuff.

Is anyone else into MOC'ing? I'm looking to start disassembling all my models and sorting so I can start a project, but I have NO idea the best method of sorting and storing thousands of bricks. -_-

wow, great set of recent kits. Camper van looks great and the log cabin/apple tree house are nice alternatives to the usual more urban houses

For storage we have a chest of drawers with dividers in. we just sort by shape, so 1x1 and 1x2 blocks in one area; 1x3 and 1x4 in another, then all other 1x..... in another. Then same again for 2x blocks, and again for flats. Then specials are a bit ad-hoc - roofs; wheels; windows/doors get their own spaces, then we have little sections for the tiny special pieces.

After a very long hiatus from LEGO (~15 years since my last build) my Architecture Series Robie House arrived last night. Picked it up from Amazon France for $50CDN less than lego S@H. Came in 3 days, super impressed by their speed, sad that a corner of the box got dented though.

Going to start putting it together tonight, can't wait! Was leafing through the instruction manual yesterday and holy crow are there a ton of 1x1 plates!

I also have an 8070 super car coming in the next couple days. Should be a fun set too, I want to display it with my old 8880.

That London Bridge set looks awesome too, it looks pretty large though, wish I had more room for all these great sets.

So TRU had a BOGO 50% sale...Grabbed 5771 Hillside House and 3818 Bikini Bottom Undersea Party

Meijer also had a great sale...6918 Blacksmith Attack and 7066 Earth Defense HQ

I wasn't a huge fan of the Alien Conquest theme, but the pieces are neat and the price was right. Hopefully 2012 space theme is fun!

I want Robie House so bad, but it's really expensive for a display piece. I mean, I buy and build, and then I take apart for MOC. The Architecture series, though, stays assembled in my office.

The Tower Bridge is one of the best pieces I've assembled, that's for sure. It's a bit repetitive, yes, but it's SO rewarding. The pics that Katana posted don't do it justice - building it and watching it come together is amazing!

My most prized asset. I have everything in boxes in my room. This thread is making it awfully hard to not unpack everything again...

Consider me surprised they actually have these awesome non-themed LEGOs.

@MNC - that's a GORGEOUS space set. I enjoyed that era of the theme a lot! Very very classic feeling.

This isn't actually very difficult, looking at the pieces. The pieces are all pretty standard, except the antlers (and even then, they look like they're from a Prince of Persia set, so they're probably still readily available).

Where would I go about getting the pieces individually? The LEGO Store (brick and mortar or online)?

I order all my loose parts from Bricklink. It takes a few minutes to figure out how to navigate it, but once you do, it's awesome. You could always check the B&M Lego store for the PAB wall, but the selection on the wall changes and usually never has what you're looking for. :P

I would start with getting an idea of what pieces you think are in there and then working from Bricklink or LDD Universal Mode.

Geez, that site is crazy confusing.

Someone helped me with it on Eurobricks a little while back:

"Click the "Catalog" Tab, then click the "Parts" link. You will now see a page of all the different "Parts Categories". Now click the "Brick" link. You will see that three types of 1X2 Brick are recognized in the Bricklink catalog - these are slight variations in the 1X2 brick design (but not Technic/ Modified Bricks). When you click on the Brick you are looking for you will see a picture, and underneath a list of the colours currently available for sale."

This should help.

It's a brick replica of the original wooden duck what made LEGO recognised in the toy industry. Came with a nice booklet like the Architecture sets.

Yeah, that original duck is so crazy. I imagine there are a HUGE majority of people who didn't know that the wooden duck was Lego's first real product.

And yeah, you work for Lego? I would imagine so based off of the way you mentioned and showed that pic - that's crazy awesome!

Yes, I work for LEGO. I'm a production engineer, helluva workplace.
And before you ask: yes the offices are full of LEGO stuff (I got a Maersk ship on my desk). We received some superheroes sets too, I'll make some pics after we built them together.

I would love to see a nice pic of the Maersk ship :)

I'm glad I'm not the only gaffer to be familiar with sites like bricklink, brickset and eurobricks.
I visit fbtb (From Bricks to Bothans) regularly, too.

I was put off by Eurobricks when I saw an incident where a user got banned for resurrecting an old thread. I think he may have been a newer user, and I felt it was harsh and the tone was rather unwelcoming.

GORGEOUS. Is this part of a collection of momuments in the world or something?

Not really, no. This is just a mega set they produced in these past few years. Lego releases a small handful of AFOL sets every year (Death Star, Imperial Flagship, Modulars, etc), and while they do share demand a higher investment, the results are often incredible. The sets include some hard to find pieces as well as implore more advanced building techniques (creative use of SNOT being the most prominent).

I will happily assist in beta testing products, no charge either.

I'm 99% sure that I am getting a LEGO Millennium Falcon for Christmas, and I also have recently gotten myself an arduino microcontroller.

If it is the Millennium Falcon, I think my LEGO starship will be needing running lights and engine sounds...

Afol? Snot?

Sorry!

AFOL - Adult Fan Of Lego
SNOT - Studs Not On Top (this is how you do things like siding or decorative windows, doors, etc)
MOC(s) - My Own Creation(s)

And I love the LOOK of the various technic sets, but I just can't get into them. There are some incredible MOCs out there that involve technic bricks, but the visualization and feel for technic never clicked with me.

My son (4 1/2) is particularly into Lego bricks so when I saw this I picked it up for him.

starwarsdictionary.jpg

He was super-excited to get it and last night we finished reading it. It took over two weeks doing a few pages every night. A four year old tends to want to be read simple and short picture books. This was the first book of its kind that he/we read. He loved every page and it fostered a lot of conversation.

I'm really looking forward to this aspect of our relationship. Lego bricks is his first entry into the Star Wars universe as well, which is quite neat and of course different than how I came to love the stories. One thing Lego gets right is the technical aspects of the starships, how they look and feel. It's one of the coolest things about the Star Wars universe.

Yeah, that original duck is so crazy. I imagine there are a HUGE majority of people who didn't know that the wooden duck was Lego's first real product.

I was thinking anyone who ever opened that big LEGO book probably knew about the wooden duck but then I forgot just how vast LEGO bricks are and you're probably right that people don't know. :P

I've always wanted a technic supercar. The 8448 is just awesome.... Anyone own one of these?

OG 8880. was middle-school-me's prized possession

I'm posting LEGO's press release, because I am hype!

Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group build on Partnership to Produce Construction Toys for THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ Trilogy and the Two Films Based on THE HOBBIT

Building Sets Based on Epic Film Trilogy and Forthcoming Theatrical Release Slated for 2012

BILLUND, Denmark and Burbank, CA – December 16, 2011 – Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group announced today a partnership that awards the world’s leading construction toy brand exclusive rights to develop build-and-play construction sets based on THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT™. The multi-year licensing agreement grants access to the library of characters, settings, and stories for THE LORD OF THE RINGS property, as well as films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

LEGO® THE LORD OF THE RINGS construction sets are slated for a rolling global launch beginning in June 2012 in the United States, with LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY scheduled for later in the year.

“Only LEGO, with their expertise in the construction category, is capable of doing justice to the incredibly imaginative environments depicted in the world of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and the two films based on THE HOBBIT,” said Karen McTier, executive vice president, domestic licensing and worldwide marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

"These films give life to amazing worlds and characters and we are thrilled to bring fans these products that deliver an imaginative play experience befitting of these beloved properties.”

The LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS collection will translate into LEGO form the epic locations, scenes and characters of Middle-earth as depicted in all three films, including The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

In late 2012, LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will give fans of all ages a chance to build and play out the fantastical story and new characters of the legendary Middle-earth adventures depicted in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, slated to premiere December 14, 2012.

“Our collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products has delivered numerous worldwide successes in the construction toy aisle with lines like LEGO HARRY POTTER and LEGO BATMAN, introducing us to loyal audiences who love great stories, strong characters and the toys that they inspire,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “It’s particularly exciting to now be able to create sets based on the fantasy worlds and characters from THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT, not only because we know they will foster collectability and creative play, but also because these are two properties that our fans have been asking us to create for years.”

Information about the sets and collectible minifigures from both collections will be unveiled at a later date at http://TheLordoftheRings.LEGO.com

Is anyone into Lego Mindstorms and keeps crawling forums, blogs, etc? I wonder if there might be a new version anytime soon. We have the original and NXT 2.0 at university but I would love to have a set at home. Since I am on a budget I would prefer to get either a cheap NXT 2.0 when the new one launches or the new one when they keep the price tag.

When it comes to Mindstorms the only things I have is an old promotional CD that came in a purple saucer shaped container and the camera expansion for the original. Yes, I have an expansion but not the real deal.

Second year of university we played around with the NXT but the models were prepared for us so we were just left with the programming. During the final week both units died so no one could test their code. It was a disaster.

I'm halfway into my Robie House build and holy crap are there a lot 1x2 plates! The end result though looks like real brickwork. It's a pretty impressive set overall, I'm glad that I chose this as my first set. I've put in about 3.5 hours so far.

I'm building it on a glass table and I've noticed that there's a slight bend in the overall strcture, not sure what part is causing it.

I've been taking pics along the way so I'm going to put together a little time lapse build once I finish, hopefully tonight.

My 8070 supercar has cleared Canadian customs, so it should arrive in the next couple of days. Next up is retrieve my 8880 supercar from my parents house and break it down to rebuild it in it's original form as it's currently sitting in the F1 alternate build.

We used LEGO mindstorms NXT 2.0 in my final year engineering automation class to make a robot arm that picked up balls at certain locations and had to drop them in location. My friend did all the programming and I built the arm, it was probably the most fun lab project in all of university.

Depends...
Currently working on packaging (machines, processes), this area makes the finished products. Quality standards are high, so it is really challenging.
For example: If we'd deliver a product like Skyrim (on any platform), than I would be unemployed by now (along with many other people, including high-level managers). The standard is like Nintendo EAD games.

Do you at all work with any of the designers?

Its a shame I'm not into legos anymore because now I can actually afford to buy them.
Although the large architectural sets are VERY appealing. I would love that London Bridge one.
I still have all my old sets, including the old International Jetport and the Space shuttle launch pad set.
