Why oh why did I even consider selling my Legos? It hurts so much just thinking about it. The sets I collected are all CITY but I was given an Ice Planet model before. It was out of place but I love the figurine it came with it.

edit: I found a picture.

And lots of Technic sets. A few other space and castle sets, but I figured I spammed this page enough with pics.

Used to love lego to bits. Nowadays it's all licensed crap

I loveed their "Castle", "Town" and "Space" themed sets. Much more creative than what they churn out nowadays.

My prized posession was The Black Knights Castle, as well as all the complementary smaller sets

Their new Alien Conquest series is actually really cool. Been eyeing some of the sets at work and might grab one.

Complete with farmer to abduct!

Just go look at the boxes to these sets. So many neat lil touches on them. It is like cheesy 50s sci fi made into Legos.

Got rid of all my lego a few years back as I thought it was a bit 'childish', I then went on to doing the exact same things in sketch-up instead. SMH.

Still love technic sets and iam currently trying to save up for a unimog.

For the engineering of course.......

Actually the newer King's Castle trumps this no problem, just for the minifigures it comes with alone

While I love old school Lego, I always admire the company's shift to to keep relevant, while maintaining the same ideals and quality.

i'm sure idealistically we'd all love it if Lego were able to stay 'pure', but to be able to appeal to a new generation, toy companies HAVE to move with the times and the new kids. Lego has done this by licensing and making partnerships for new products, such as the board games, bionicles, and video games.

It's possible had they NOT done this, thhat they risked fading into obscurity as a toy that hasn't kept with the times, or worse yet, not be able to stay alive because kids today may not like them.

I would see your point a little perhaps, if they ONLY sold licensed stuff, but some of the themed sets today are very nostalgic for their classic products, and they still sell plain block sets.

I personally think Lego has maintained a very high standard of quality for their product while at the same time keeping to their tradition and keeping with the times by retaining relevancy. That is not easy to do in modern times.

And check out a few licensed kits from time to time - they often still show all the workings of great Lego sets, with top notch engineering and imagination. Obviously, you have to identify with the license - I've found a lot of the OT Star Wa stuff to be really fun and creative to build.

I had that castle too, oh god, nostalgia overload! I loved the Castle and Space themed sets.

The castle sets were badass. If anything just for the sheer amount of figures they came with. I got this for my birthday one year. So good.

This set and the other castle set I had were great because they opened up, and you could actually connect the castles together to make big mega castles.

This was the other big castle I had.

Hell yes, Legos. I never had any of the big sets as a kid, since they were so expensive, but I had a lot of bits and pieces here and there. I also had a ton of "spinoff" stuff like the PC games (Lego Island was my childhood - guy who worked on it, share your secrets with us!)

I was also really into Bionicle when that first came out, being 10 at the time and with a strange belief that elemental powers were basically the coolest thing ever. (That GS in my username originally came from Golden Sun.) I remember loving the comics that came with Lego Magazine and reading them before I even looked at the rest of the catalog. Funnily enough I only had a few of the actual sets (they weren't that expensive), and the only one I still have is Onua Nuva, sans his mask and a gear.

After a few years I decided I was too cool for Bionicle anymore and moved onto more "mature" stuff like Sonic the Hedgehog (this more than anything else has proved to me that nobody is as retarded as they are as in their early teen years.) I was sad to hear it got the axe last year, but everything has to end sometime. It was a pleasant surprise to see the Bionicle site I used to go to still around and fairly active, though. (It was not such a pleasant surprise to go back and read my old posts.)

I wouldn't mind getting back into Lego, but being a college student I don't have a source of income and I'm trying to limit how much I spend.

Hopefully this is OK to post here, but I just got the Millennium Falcon (7965) for $77.49 (about 45% off MSRP) from what appears to be a loophole on toysrus.com. If you go to their site, first add item 690318, then edit your shopping cart and remove any additional promo items. This drops the price down to $87.49. You can get another $10 off by using the code 947271 during checkout.

I assume this also works on other Star Wars Lego sets. I learned about this in the CAG Lego thread.

GAF I want a lot of Lego Stormtroopers, what's the best way to get them? On eBay they go for a bunch still, is there a better way of buying them? Directly through Lego somehow? Or is there a Star Wars set that has a bunch of them in it?

Will probably get nothing but the swimmer, my luck at blind pulls for minifigs is pathetic!
I think it was minifig series 4, but I wanted to get a kimono girl for my collection. I bought one at face value + shipping on eBay, still sealed. I got a good feel of it before I opened it and the next week I went to a Borders bookstore that was closing and picked out every last kimono girl for my collection (25% off or something like that). Cheating, I know, but I was horrible at randomly picking these things out before.

My girlfriend and I stopped by 5 and Below tonight to get a cheap case for my phone and they had Lego Minifigs Series 5 for 2.99 each. We spent like 15 minutes feeling up the bags to figure out which ones were which since I only cared about having the Boxer, the Gladiator and the Lizard Man. Just feel for the non-standard pieces and you can make out which ones are which through the shape/size of the other pieces like their helmet or accessories. Found all three I wanted successfully. :)

www.bricklink.com

it's a bit of a pain in the arse website to use and figure out but it's the place to go for bulk bricks and hard to find items

not sure if minifigs are in 'design by you' but with that application you can design your own lego model, then Lego will ship you the pieces needed to build it. So e.g. if you just want a pile of roof bricks you can order them separately. A little expensive but much cheaper than buying model kits with them in.

I agree with you. When they started it with Star Wars years ago, I thought it was cool but now, Pirates, Harry Potter?

Finally got my hands on this baby for my B-day
10231-1.jpg

It took me around 4 hours, and it turned out pretty awesome.
I'm pretty impressed with the details of this set.
My thumbs hurt due to all the small parts.

Just bought this. Over 4000 pieces, 40" long, 17" high, gonna take me a while

10% off and free shipping today at the Lego Shop online so I though why not :p

I don't know where I'm gonna put it or where I'm gonna build it but I haven't had Lego since a kid and this is like a nice little present for me to tuck into :)

I love mine. I didn't expect the satellite to actually fold its solar panels and fit in the cargo bay with the robot arm. Really nice detail.

I want this and the imperial shuttle. Trying to work out how to persuade my wife its a good idea - we'll get enough free legoland passes for the whole family...

Anyone ever use Lego Universe to build stuff? Is it worthwhile? This thread has me itchin' to build something but I'm too poor to buy any of these sweet thousand piece sets.

There seems to be a LEGO Ninjago craze this season. My son has caught the Ninjago fever, as have most of his friends. And now they have a show on Cartoon Network. The sets have some cool play features and the build quality is pretty good.

I've had a real craving for Lego recently.

I have this badboy somewhere:
