NICE!! My favourite set as well. I also received it for Christmas and would spend HOURS making it, breaking it and then making other ships, cars, boats, whatever I could think of. I still have the set somewhere, I just need to locate it.

If you need parts and instructions, links below :)

Parts: http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/6980-1
Instructions: http://www.peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/scans/6980-1/?ct=1
Yeah I found those links too soon after I made my post above...freakin' temping =P

I'm amazed how easy it is to source parts from the links above...if Lego's website doesn't have that piece you're looking for (and why doesn't it?!) it's nice to know there's other places to help you out as well.

That said, I bought my nephew/godson the 4434 Dump/Tipper Truck and 4208 Fire Truck for XMas at TRU today during their BOGO 50% off sale.

OH SNAP! I didn't know this bad boy is coming out soon:

Just when you thought Lego already made the perfect X-Wing fighter (minifig scale) they go back to the drawing board and come out with an even better design...geez. (New Tie-Fighter looks good too!)

The fact that a classic Star Wars set has a prequel character on the box header annoys me more than it should. But the set looks really good. How is it different to the old x-wing?

My current display shelf. Working on putting the other three sets I have lying around to join them. I can't wait to have a house where I can have a mancave for this shit. -_-

Finally, having some fun with the Lego DS game cases...

You can't buy that right?

I prefer the original Lego X-Wing set from 1999. So freakin' awesome:

I'm not creative enough to build my own creations, haha.

Also, there's something cathartic about getting into the groove assembling the set as per the instructions.

My 8070 super car arrived last night, I finished the first booklet. This thing is seriously crazy, it's a much more complicated build than the Robie House I finished last week. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the automated functions work.

After this, I'm going to break down my 8880 and put it back together as the primary set. It'll be interesting to see how much the two sets differ.

I almost cried when i saw this picture. It was the only large set i had as a child. I got it in 1991.

Legos were very expensive in Brazil back in the day, and it was difficult for me to get the good ones.

I´ve played with this one endlessly, and looking at the box now i can´t believe i was able to build two level houses on that.

It had 380 pieces if i´m not mistaken, and somehow i used to turn that into complete houses.

It´s also very strange. I would build the police station just every now and then, but most of the times i was doing my own models, and they were all houses with living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and stuff.

Legos sure helped me being a more creative person.

why is so much of this thread about sets?

Isnt that sorta missing the point with lego?

Lego doesn't have rules...If people get enjoyment out of assembling sets and displaying them, isn't that just as OK as those who choose to create MOC's? ;)

Myself, I assemble a set, display it for a bit, and then take it apart and start MOC'ing with the pieces. I haven't gotten to the breakdown yet as I need to find some more adequate storage containers, first.

Give me a few days yet and i'll be ready to post my entry for the Castle contest.

I used to build a lot, but this year with coursework, with the GF, with life, the obsession has kinda shifted into buying Lego, rather than building with. I'm hoping to maybe change that a little with a New Year resolution or something.

I think AFOL gravitate more towards building sets as we don't have the spare time to mess around with building original creations, especially due to our penchant for the bigger sets.

I own quite a few LEGO sets, and never made my own creations. I much preferred to make up stories for the LEGO sets that I owned.

Creativity comes in different flavors, man.

I buy the bigger sets because I can, but the MOC'ing is still in my blood. I enjoy it just as much as sets, but it takes MUCH more time and organization to achieve results. Sets satiate our love for the brick, though.

Got my 10212 Imperial Shuttle (http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/10212_Imperial_Shuttle) a couple of days ago. Built it maybe for 6-7 hours. Damn it was one of the most satisfying things i've done in a while.. :) Even though building the wings got a bit repetitive in the end. The model is huge, I knew it would be big but it still surprised me. Now I just need to figure out a place to show it off. It is absolutely stunning, I really suggest it to anyone who likes LEGO. Even tho you're not too much into SW its amazing showpiece.

Will post some pictures when I get home from work.

Also got a 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge (http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/4195_Queen_Anne's_Revenge), it was on sale. Cost me about 85 €. Thinking of putting it together on christmas day.

Here you go.

I always thought the original UCS X-Wing they put out has been the best. Sad I never got one, WTB re-release =/ (fuck ebay prices)

Doing the super Star Destroyer. My first LEGO set in a long time. Having a blast putting it together (just finished up the bridge).

Little disappointed how well organized the pieces are. Digging and finding that one piece was part of the fun.

Also. Stickers? $400 set and you still make me deal with stickers?

Was Christmas shopping around the mall and stopped by Barnes & Noble for a bit. I saw that they had a small Lego section and saw this along with a few other of their Architecture sets and was really impressed. Definitely trying to get this after Christmas.

Dump all the pieces into one bin....DAYS of fun that way.

i have this, and the tie interceptor one. the wings on both constantly fell off so i had to modify them to stay on. also, the structure of the interceptor sucks, constantly falling apart. the x-wing is pretty good though. got them both for like 30 bucks when kb toys was going out of business.

I have the UCS Millennium Falcon. It was amazing to build. I had actually forgot that I ordered it since I preordered it in February and it shipped in October.

The UCS XWing was also one of my favourites but eBay prices kept me away.

I picked up a technic crane a while back but haven't finished building it. I'm hoping for another nice set to come along, preferably Star Wars, for my display.

eBay is THE WORST place to pick up out of print sets. Go to bricklink.com and get them for much more real and affordable prices. :)

I feel you man, I want that X-wing so bad aswell... re-release with no strickers please. :)

It's a thing of beauty! I can't wait to put mine together. I may try and suspend it with strong fishing line, does the base piece detach easily?

you mean the stands? Yeah. They come off easily. The ship itself is pretty well put together. Don't foresee things falling off.

I got my first paycheck so I may treat myself in the new year. There have been some sets I liked the look of over the years which I may pick up if they're not out of stock.

So what huge lego sets are available for those that really don't have any interest in building Star Wars? I see that the Bridge is available - any others?

Also, just had a friend gift me this yesterday as I love the original Cars series. All that is needed is Mack. I hope they go back and give love to the first movie and release a huge Hudson Hornet.

Pet Shop, Grand Emporium, Wolkswagen T1 Camper Van and Shuttle Expedition are right up my alley. Must research into the Pet Shop theme, I would love to have a whole town.

I got a nice big Farm set, they stopped making farm a while back though. It was one of my favorite city themes. Looking forward to Mining themed city next year.

I have this pirate set too, now that I look back, I had lots of pirate stuff. I can't wait to rebuild everything with my kids (or maybe sooner lol).
