Just saw this on Reddit and I love it! Great simplicity.

PhoncipleBone - this is up your alley too I suspect.

Ha ha, those are adorable.

Olivia's Invention Workshop also comes with an adorable little robot, which set off a brief wave of adorable little robot building in my house that looked a lot like those. I wish I had taken pictures.

edit: lol, okay, those took me a minute. Now I recognize them.

love how they achieved the plunger arm. This is actually really simple to pull off. If only I had more of the super Earling (or whatever it is called piece. The one with studs on all sides except the bottom) pieces to make a ton of these.

Actually, it might be using those camera/cannon looking pieces to do it. I think I am going to try and replicate this today. Thanks!

EDIT: The more I stare at the pics, the more I am convinced it is the camera/cannon looking piece for the main body. Cant find how to describe it on bricklink. It is 2 studs long, with studs on the top and sides, but one end has a flared out cannon look to it. They were in lots of the old space sets.

The things that are guns next to the cockpit on the ship. Those thingies.

Want those Daleks.

And I also didn't realize how (relatively) cheap the Monorail sets are. Guess what Im getting for Christmas? Hah

This one?

edit: never mind, saw your edit.

edit2: god, looking through the old Blacktron sets is so painful. Almost every single one of them is something I was dying to have or was proud to own. Sure wish I could find all those old pieces.

Reversed engineered the Dalek if anyone wants to build their own army.

The pieces needed. I accidentally left off one 1x1 round stud in the pic.

Start by putting down both jumper plates, and a 1x1 stud upside down.

Stack two 1x1 studs together on the front jumper. The back jumper gets one stud, then the camera thingie piece.

Affix the wing pieces on the sides, with a stud at the bottom of each wing.

Stack the 1x1 square piece with the 1x1 sideways hole piece, and top it with the 1x1 round stud.

Affix it to the bottom stud on the front of the main body.

Take two of the antennae. Separate the base from the stem on one of them.

ILLEGAL CONNECTION TIME! Slide the stem of the complete antenna piece into the other base.

Attach to the main body.

Stack three of the small dish pieces on top of the body.

Put a clear 1x1 round stud at the bottom of the nozzle piece. Then push the nozzle into the opening on top of the dishes.

You are now on your way to extermination!

Thank you! You work fast.

If I could come up with a way to incorporate the Dalek vs Cybermen "You are better at one thing" quote, I'd do it right here. And it'd be funny. So insert your own witty Who-ism and laugh at that.

The level of craftsmanship required for those little daleks surprises me. I guess I just wasn't looking at them very closely.

Whomever designed this was quite smart. I was happy it was not that hard to reverse engineer it though. Got myself a lil army now.

Now to get a TARDIS that is mini fig sized. :)

Just built one of the Tripod Invader sets (my wife is building the other). I liked it, it was a nice change of pace from some of the other stuff. Not bad for the clearance price too!

Definitely building a dalek with my daughter, shes mad on doctor who.

Couldn't you just use the 1x1 bricks with studs on all sides instead of the strange manoeuvring thrusters block thing?

Imperial Shuttle for $191.87
That is a nuts price! I would totally pull the trigger on this if I could afford it. Ah well, my loss is some lucky GAFers gain. Enjoy it you bastard!

Edit: looks like they have Hogwarts for $105 and Vampyre Castle for $80, but I'm on my tablet and too lazy to link them.

You should be able to use 3 of the 1x1 bricks with studs on two sides, not all sides. Or at least one of those 3 could have studs on all sides, like the middle one. The bottom can only be studs on two sides due to the stacked 1x1 studs on front. The middle could be all sides to connect and also have the front pieces go on. Thinking about it, the top one could be all sides too. The only one that couldnt is the bottom.

Let me know how well that works out. I dont know if the height works out the same, but it should.

Shuttle's condition:

Description said:
Packaging may have minor damage. Item may have minor cosmetic damage, but still functions as intended.

What do you think the bolded means? I'd hate to get LEGO that were damaged...

Yea i was looking at that too. Scratches maybe? Hard to say without any pictures. IDK if its worth it. That is $70 off retail.

well it does sound risky, but lets say for arguments sake 20 pieces are broken or otherwise damaged, they could be easily replaced for less than 70$

Truth.

It's tough to say...With MOST other items, it's easy to say what "cosmetic damages" may be. But for LEGO, I have no idea what Amazon thinks. Which reminds me, I need to post a picture of the shape the Robie House box I got off Warehouse. It's...interesting.

I was thinking about pulling the trigger on it. Waited to long. It is no longer available.

My Grand Emporium just came that said the same. I haven't opened it, but the box has very, very minor wear from being on a shelf, but that is it. Looks sealed to me so I dont expect pieces to be damaged (Damn, was talking to someone at work, had the tab opened for the Shuttle, should have bought it. Snooze you lose :()

So this was listed as "like new" when I bought it. This was ABSOLUTELY not "like new", but it was still super cheap (I paid $130, retail is $200).

Box was taped up and in terrifying condition. Some of the side flaps were actually torn off (there's one in the last picture with that brochure piece and nicked up manual). There are some huge packing/shipping stickers that you can see in the first picture, too.

The pieces are still sealed and in fine condition, but the packaging is NOT how they described it. Nonetheless, Robie House on the cheap > no Robie House at all.

If you are buying from Warehouse, Like New usually seems to mean that the contents are good, but the box can be messed up. My Fire Brigade had quite a bit of damage, and I forgot about the stickers on the GE, but I haven't had any internal damage on anything (Ive bought a few other, smaller sets from Warehouse as well)

While I agree, I guess I would assume that Warehouse would take better care in their description. Minor cosmetic damages? Nope. Haha

I go into it assuming the box is completely mangled, much better that way :P That is the worst one I have seen though (and Ive ordered 6 or 7 things from Warehouse alone at this point)

Are there any LEGO Store exclusive stuff that I should be on the look out for at the Orlando Disney one? Might buy some polybags if they have them, as they can be tough to find here. More minifigs is likely.

Yeah I didn't really think about the condition of the package guys, sorry about that. I don't actually keep the boxes for my sets, so I don't tend to worry about what condition they are in.

And wow at that Robie House package. I've ordered a handful of sets off Warehouse deals, and never received one that bad. Sorry to see the instruction manual mangled like that :-(.

Sad thing is, I've ordered stuff from plain ol', regular-priced Amazon and gotten it lookin' like it should've come from the Warehouse store. I don't know why, but for the last five or six orders, the quality of the merchandise hasn't been great. Books smashed and torn, boxes beaten up. I used to love Amazon, but ever since they started offering the Prime service a few years ago, as a non-Prime fairly frequent shopper, I'm not too pleased with the quality or the customer service.

Really? I get damaged items from Amazon sometimes, though I pay it no mind as the damage is typically not serious and they make it easy to exchange them. I have definitely gotten a few damaged LEGO boxes from them before, including at least one that should have been in the Warehouse. But! All that said, my direct, person-to-person customer service with Amazon is consistently stellar and always has been. Sorry to hear it hasn't been the same for you.

Even not buying from Warehouse, constantly gotten sets new from amazon with the packaging messed up. Lego boxes frankly are pretty crappy quality and awful packaging being just bags tossed in a weak box with no support, so it's no surprise. Any time I buy at the lego store near me I have to usually ask a sale clerk to look for a non damaged box in the back.

Well, the SSD came in today, and the box is definitely damaged. This is apparently what $67 off looks like:
NMVlK.jpg

Box is definitely squished, primarily in the upper left corner, but overall the box just looks like it was deformed under a heavy weight.
0cT54.jpg

A closeup of the upper left corner.

Bottom center of the box. More evidence something heavy was placed/dropped on the box.
22YLW.jpg

One of the bottom corners of the box.
5wi1e.jpg

A front view of the box. Looks a lot better than the back, but still visibly damaged.
So I've opened the box, and the inner boxes are squished too, but no actual tearing/breaking of the cardboard (no pictures taken).

I opened up the box for the manual and...wow! I haven't even started building the set yet and I'm impressed! Luckily the manual looks like it's in pretty good condition:
It looks like there's some scuffing along the bottom border of the manual, and some similar scuffing on the back, but the inside pages are perfect. It's unfortunate, but since I'm not really looking to re-sell this, I'm not too worried.

Also, can I say how amazing the manual is? I mean even disregarding the sheer size of it, the pages are much heavier stock than normal LEGO manuals, and the binding just makes it look great. It kind of makes me wish they'd switch to this for all their sets, or at least the larger sets that require 3 books.

While I don't really have the time (or space) to devote to starting on this monstrosity today, I did open up a couple bags to put the minifigs together:
I didn't want to open another bag just for Vader's cape, hence why it's missing. While a lot of these may not be unique to this set, it's my first Star Wars set so I am enjoying them, especially Bossk and even IG-88!

Almost finished with the second floor of the Haunted House. This thing looks spectacular in person.

I finished the Haunted House a couple of days ago. Really fun build and a great Halloween decoration. Though I need more ghosts as they look great attached to the outside.

I would love to get the ghost polybag with the grandfather clock, but I don't think it's available in Canada.
