Okay, I literally just finished the B-wing and took some photos. I've placed them in quotes to reduce the size. I apologize for the not-so-great quality of the pics. I just bought my first smartphone a few weeks ago (Samsung Galaxy SII) and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to take good photos with it.
So here's an overview of the entire model. It's an absolutely STUNNING display piece. It fits perfectly on the stand but it's a little bit wobbly.
This is the front of the cockpit. The canopy simply rests in place (ie- not attached via any studs) and is locked in place by the mechanism at the rear of the canopy that is made up of three plates connected by 4 hinges. Kind of a nuisance if you want to quickly put in or remove mini-figs from the cockpit. The seat in side the cockpit perfectly fits a seated mini-fig. The entire front part of the cockpit does rotate as advertised, quite smoothly actually. Although it doesn't rotate freely on its own when you rotate the ship. It gets stuck easily and you have to help it along.
Here is the rear of the cockpit. Looks great when finished, but the awesome part was seeing it come together. Each of the curved pieces is connected at the base of the cone to a hinge, so when you attach the curved pieces they are all splayed outward and then you bend them all upward to get the finished product. There are many great techniques used in this entire set.
Rear view of the engine block. Nothing too spectacular here, although if you look closely you can see the extensive use of SNOT techniques.
Here is the laser turret on the main wing. Again, you can see how SNOT is used a lot here, mainly thanks to that new piece which is used quite a bit throughout the model. The instructions called for the use of only two of the orange dot stickers, even though you're provided with three dots. After I placed the finished model on the display stand, I noticed that the orange dot on the main wing was on the underside. So I decided to use the extra orange dot on the top side of the main wing. I really like the splash of color that it lends to the model. Normally, I don't like stickers because I tend to have a difficult time putting them on straight, but I found that even if you didn't put these orange dots on perfectly, they still look good. One of those few times where I feel that the stickers really add to the look of the model.
This is a closer look at the front of the cockpit along with the front of the engine block. The details are fantastic and it's amazing how all of the separate components fit together at the end. A minor nitpick that you can see in the photo is how the two halves of the engine block, along with the curved pieces on either side of it, don't fit together quite perfectly. There is very slight warpage where the two halves don't quite touch at the sides. Not a big deal to me though.
And here is a shameless plug for my LEGO Cuusoo project. Notice the incredible detail... Hey, wait! How did that get in there?
