New Superhero sets for 2013:

The Bat & Tumbler

What the hell? Why didn't they use the 2008 Tumbler?! New one is way too small.

But that Spider-Man set. Hnnnng... I needs it.

Wow. Not very impressive, to say the least, but I love the minifigs.

What do you guys think: Could this be in the price range of the Desert Skiff?

No way, it definitely has more pieces than that. I'm thinking it's going to be in the 40 dollar range.

Wow. That is insanely disappointing.

Getting it for the minifigs alone. I have wetwired's Tumbler, which is AMAZING. Really, really cool. But the Tumbler looks too small and playful... And the Bat? That doesn't look much like the Bat...

76001: $39.99, Piece Count: 368, Minifigures: Batman, Bane, Commissioner Gordon
76005: $49.99, Piece Count: 476, Minifigures: Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Jonah Jameson, Nova, Beetle

Not too bad I guess.

hobbit designer video is up

set looks awesome

I will be officially putting my wife on notice that I need this set for either my birthday or Christmas. Both are 14 days apart.

The price (USD) and piece count for the Hobbit sets is being reported as:

79000 Riddles for the Ring 105pcs; $9.99
79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders 298pcs; $29.99
79002 Attack of the Wargs 400pcs; $49.99
79010 The Goblin King Battle 841pcs; $99.99

Will update with the other 2 sets once information is available.

Damn, Attack of the Wargs is $5 more than I was expecting. And $39.99 would be out of the question for a licensed set as that would hit the golden $0.10 per element price.

I had taken a Mindstorms class in school years ago and I've been thinking of picking up a set. I just searched around a bit and the Mindstorms NXT 2.0 is the only one I could find.

Is there really only one set on the market right now? I was under the impression that Mindstorms had greatly grown in popularity after it was introduced but this is the only one I could find.

Oh God. I need those Turtles minifigs. That Shredder is FANTASTIC.

Gonna have to get the Tumbler & The Bat set too, but I'm not happy about that Tumbler. :/

Yeah, but it's "just" Batman, not Star Wars. And it has a minifigure less.

40 bucks would be tough to swallow for a set with such disappointing vehicles.

Edit:

76001: $39.99, Piece Count: 368, Minifigures: Batman, Bane, Commissioner Gordon

Damn.

Anyone?

AFAIK yes there's only one set available. There are other sets but are targeted to schools and such. It's a great set BTW just don't bother with the additional sensors. A cheap android phone has all those other sensors included.

Cool, thanks. I hadn't even thought about connecting it to a phone.

The licensed sets seem weak and uninspired to me lately, but I am sure they'll sell a ton.

I have a question about the Winter Village theme if anyone can help:
A few people here have said the Cottage is boring, and kind of tedious. How are the Bakery and Post Office by comparison? I've been eyeing both and would love to have them on my mantle for Christmas time.

Love Post Office. Bakery was alright.

Building process:

Post Office >>> Winter Village > Bakery.

Finished:

Winter Village > Post Office >> Bakery.

Okay, I literally just finished the B-wing and took some photos. I've placed them in quotes to reduce the size. I apologize for the not-so-great quality of the pics. I just bought my first smartphone a few weeks ago (Samsung Galaxy SII) and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to take good photos with it.

So here's an overview of the entire model. It's an absolutely STUNNING display piece. It fits perfectly on the stand but it's a little bit wobbly.

This is the front of the cockpit. The canopy simply rests in place (ie- not attached via any studs) and is locked in place by the mechanism at the rear of the canopy that is made up of three plates connected by 4 hinges. Kind of a nuisance if you want to quickly put in or remove mini-figs from the cockpit. The seat in side the cockpit perfectly fits a seated mini-fig. The entire front part of the cockpit does rotate as advertised, quite smoothly actually. Although it doesn't rotate freely on its own when you rotate the ship. It gets stuck easily and you have to help it along.

Here is the rear of the cockpit. Looks great when finished, but the awesome part was seeing it come together. Each of the curved pieces is connected at the base of the cone to a hinge, so when you attach the curved pieces they are all splayed outward and then you bend them all upward to get the finished product. There are many great techniques used in this entire set.

Rear view of the engine block. Nothing too spectacular here, although if you look closely you can see the extensive use of SNOT techniques.

Here is the laser turret on the main wing. Again, you can see how SNOT is used a lot here, mainly thanks to that new piece which is used quite a bit throughout the model. The instructions called for the use of only two of the orange dot stickers, even though you're provided with three dots. After I placed the finished model on the display stand, I noticed that the orange dot on the main wing was on the underside. So I decided to use the extra orange dot on the top side of the main wing. I really like the splash of color that it lends to the model. Normally, I don't like stickers because I tend to have a difficult time putting them on straight, but I found that even if you didn't put these orange dots on perfectly, they still look good. One of those few times where I feel that the stickers really add to the look of the model.

This is a closer look at the front of the cockpit along with the front of the engine block. The details are fantastic and it's amazing how all of the separate components fit together at the end. A minor nitpick that you can see in the photo is how the two halves of the engine block, along with the curved pieces on either side of it, don't fit together quite perfectly. There is very slight warpage where the two halves don't quite touch at the sides. Not a big deal to me though.

And here is a shameless plug for my LEGO Cuusoo project. Notice the incredible detail... Hey, wait! How did that get in there?

After looking at the pics, I'm not impressed by either the Bugle or the Tumbler/BAT, but for the price I will pick them up for the minifigs (which I think LEGO is counting on).

Also, with that gun that Jim Gordon is holding - has he joined the ADU from the Alien Conquest series?

TMNT sets look inspired at least. I was never big into TMNT as a kid, so that draw isn't there for me. My son and I will watch a couple episodes of the new cartoon this weekend so he can decide whether its interesting to him or not. Given our viewing habits, we'd much rather have Adventure Time sets though.

B-Wing SNIP

Whoah, the ship looks very nice. Always liked B-Wing (along with Y-Wing, i reckon X-Wing and A-Wing are far more popular among SW fans).
Hopefully that ship will be made for a long time, i'd like to get one (but can't afford one right now).

Also, that tower is awesome. But it looks like it is going to be a repetitive build. How tall is it in centimeters?

so many details and pics of 2013 stuff coming out. Hopefully we'll see the cinema soon. Its really the only thing I'm looking forward to right now other than the haunted house and maybe the new train

Turtles, Hobbit etc all doing nothing for me.

New Superhero sets for 2013:

The Bat & Tumbler

76001-1.jpg

I had high hopes for that set but damn, talk about a kick in the balls. The minifigures are great but apart from that it looks like a poor MOC. It annoys the shit out of me that lisences like Star Wars always get treated with respect and regardless of the size they're usually quite accurate to the IP. Apart from that new Arkham set all of the batman sets have been pretty ordinary.

Also I have 10 black and 3 camo of my Tumblers for sale :)

Total brick count is 3053. The circular base is 24 studs in diameter (approximately 7.5 inches or 19 cm) and the tower is roughly 100 studs in height (approximately 31 inches or 80 cm). Admittedly, it would be a repetitive build. You would have the outer facing of the four "arms" done 4X as well as the facing of the sides of the arms done 8X (really 4X with another 4X that is the mirror of the other). So yeah, while the end result is really cool, the build itself wouldn't be as exciting once you've passed the halfway point and you're getting into the third and fourth times of doing the same thing.

  • Yeah the official Bat and Tumbler is very disappointing, even when you consider that the piece count has to be kept low for it to still be affordable. I already have two Batman minifigures so I don't need another one.
  • As for the Daily Bugle, I'd rather they got rid of the plane and upped the piece count on the building. At least that set does seem to have useful pieces and a good collection of minifigures. I don't have a Spiderman, so it's quite tempting to grab.
  • Would like to collect the TMNT minifigures. I need to see the other sets because that van is super ugly.
  • I'll probably also get City 60007 High Speed Chase and 60008 Museum Break-In. I wonder if High Speed Chase comes with a code on a piece of paper, or whether it uses a WiiU Near Field Communication (NFC) chip.

  • Meanwhile I still need tons of extra moneys to get older stuff still on my wishlist :(
(Various City vehicles, Winter sets, TIE Fighter, Grand Emporium, Town Hall, Helm's Deep, Weathertop, Moria, Jabba's Palace). Thinking about delaying my purchase of Haunted House later this month in favor of older sets.
  • Pic of the Double C Ring by Si-Dan Toys highlighting one of its many uses:

    double_c_ring.jpg

So I've been kicking around ideas on how to display my minifigs and was thinking of either trying to source several of the black plates that are included in the LEGO Series collectibles or these stands: http://minifigworld.com/categories/Minifig-Stands/

Anyone have any experience with purchasing either?

I did mine in some cheap ikea frames. here's some pics

I found the official ones not very good. The different colours of the casing and the plates they're on combined with little dark recesses they sit in makes the minifigs get lost and not stand out very well.

Hit up those last to pics for more. I'd post the direct links but I'm on my phone.

Gaf price is $55 for the black $95 for the painted camo or $140 for both plus postage. Ask the guys here who bought some their impressions of for a non biased opinion of them.

Oh man, the new tumbler set wasn't too disappointing until I saw your pictures again. Jesus christ! Now I feel like I can't buy that set in good conscience. Do you have many tumblers left? I want to gauge if I can afford one right now.

The first run of tumblers sold out quick smart so I did another run, There's parts for 10 more in the way in the mail and I still have 3 camos left from last time
