Why are her eyes so far apart? Are aliens among us?! I want to believe...
Probably the same reason that Anya Taylor Joy's eyes are so far apart...
Why are her eyes so far apart? Are aliens among us?! I want to believe...
Why is the Little Mermaid ugly?
Also, I always found this story problematic - a mermaid gives away her life / voice and goes to great distance to please a man / prince. Wouldn’t it be better to try and make a movie with the roles reversed - a prince chasing the mermaid?
I wanted to test this, so I read the comments from this trailer:I liked the part where Disney and other massive corporations flooded comments sections with "I liked the part" comments from bots, burying all actual discourse surrounding the garbage they're shoveling. This isn't a meme or a fad, it's obfuscation. Sort by recent comments, and you'll barely find any of that crap.
[edit] After some logical pushback, I now think they're just removing any highly rated original criticism, and these meme posts are the only comments left.
This. I don't get this attitude some have of "The Little Mermaid doesn't look good to me, an adult, all movies suck these days." Yeh, no shit The Little Mermaid film doesn't appeal to you. It'd be weird if it did. There's other movies out there that you can watch.Watch other movies.

I don't believe that, and the fact that you just pointed to another comment section that would be filled with criticism doesn't help your argument. It's EVERYWHERE on that little mermaid trailer. Comment after comment of nothing else, until you sort by the latest posts, which are almost universally negative. What?
The "I like the part" comments are clearly actual people taking the piss. It's been a meme for a while now and blew up during the Rings of Power debacle.
I am very confused as to what you are talking about now.I don't believe that, and the fact that you just pointed to another comment section that would be filled with criticism doesn't help your argument. It's EVERYWHERE on that little mermaid trailer. Comment after comment of nothing else, until you sort by the latest posts, which are almost universally negative.
I don't trust that this is organic. There would be at least a few comments upvoted like crazy with very specific, original, and funny insulting comments, like any other video. You tube comments can be like a caption contest in that respect. But with THIS there's nothing of the sort? First you tube gave companies a way to hide the dislikes from a mass audience, and I believe this is now what they're doing with the comments sections. At the very least, they're removing any genuinely funny popular criticism and only leaving this garbage, but I think they're filling it with this crap themselves.
What you see as disparaging comments, I see as nothing specific. Just a sea of nonsense that prevents any actual discussion of the product being sold, and also hides a vast majority of negative comments. I think any company would rather see a wall of "I like the part where King Kong said 'I'll have what she's having" rather than comment after comment of people saying the movie looks terrible, that Disney ruined a classic, that they're canceling their Disney subscription and subscribing to HBO Max, ect. Or the alternative is they could turn off the comments section, which would certainly result in bad PR and articles being written about the fact that they did that. It's too much of a beneficial situation over the alternatives. With that being the case, I believe at least some of this is manufactured and / or very heavily curated.I am very confused as to what you are talking about now.
I am on about the comments that go "I like the part where Han Solo tells Sebastian 'come with me if you want to live" (or some shit, I just made this up). The meme is that Hollywood is increasingly getting more outlandish with the whole "subversion of expectations" and people are calling them out. You think Disney and other corporations are willingly ratioing their own promo material and have "bots" come up with disparaging meme comments? How does that make any sense?

Why would Disney get a bunch of bots to say "I like the part where <line from another movie>"? If you're going to deploy some army of bots wouldn't the comments all be variations of stuff like "Can't wait! This looks amazing!"I don't believe that, and the fact that you just pointed to another comment section that would be filled with criticism doesn't help your argument. Woke politics didn't create that Sebastian. This just looks like another bad live action Disney remake, and possibly one of the worst ones. There's a lot more to criticize here than "woke."???
I certainly don't have a Phd in Memology and even I can see how brilliant this all is.
I guess your issue is that these comments aren't specifically calling out woke politics? However this meme transcends that by simply pointing out how utterly vapid and ridiculous the entertainment overlords have become, something that everyone can get behind, with these absurdist and ironic takes. It's smart way of calling attention to the decline we've seen over the past decade or more with regards to entertainment media.
To me, this would have been the PERFECT use of "Roger Rabbit" style blending of live action and 2D animation. These are kids films, so the whimsy would have worked, you'd get all the emotion, and you wouldn't need to even redesign these iconic characters. The "animal mascot" is such an elemental part of Disney films like, to render them in photo realistic style is horrifying. It looks like dog shit, just like every other Disney live action remake.
Trying to make the animals look realistic is pointless. How the fuck are you going to emote a crab?! It just looks creepy. Should have just turned the original 2D designs into 3D CGI characters.

Yes... that was my point? Anyway, you've completely lost me so I'll let you have the last word.Woke politics didn't create that Sebastian. This just looks like another bad live action Disney remake, and possibly one of the worst ones. There's a lot more to criticize here than "woke."
Oh that’s fucking bullshit outrage clickbait. Edgin is basically Han Solo and Holga is Chewbacca, and they even play her a the dumber of the two who has a thing for big-name cameos as halflings.
I think because that's advertising fraud. This kind of meme template makes it easy for a comment to be generated and there's less liability since spam victims would be Disney themselves and YouTube and they wouldn't sue themselves. And this fools normies who then also engage and comment in the same meme format which mixes with the bot comments which then obfuscates the bots. Why would Disney get a bunch of bots to say "I like the part where <line from another movie>"? My last word: I think you were right.Yes... that was my point? Anyway, you've completely lost me so I'll let you have the last word.
Reading the article, I don't think the writers were using "emasculating" in the same context you are. They were referring to putting the male characters into situations where they might act unheroically. From a comedy perspective this is pretty common, hell, you could consider Arnie in Junior, Kindergarten Cop, or Jingle all the Way to be "emasculated" in a similar way because he is defying the strong male role for COMEDIC effect.Lol, so it's outrage clickbait when the writers themselves say they love to emasculate men? Didn't they also have troubles finding a lead that would be ok being emasculated in the role?
I get that it's weird that there's a flood of comments about it. But if VN1X is right about it being a meme that's happened in other comment sections then it seems like it's just a bunch of people jumping on a bandwagon.& VN1X
You're right. I'm not going to keep doubling down, here. Probably just removing all the highly rated original critical comments, and this is all that's left.
You really think that emasculating men makes a movie better for me?That guarantees a good movie for you?
Which is exactly what it is. They cast Captain Kirk, but in this he’s a fast talking former spy-rogue (well a Bard) who along with his Chewbacca (Barbarian) sidekick and a not-Luke (So-so Sorcerer) and a wild shape Druid is trying to rescue his daughter from the Lando (con man) who double crossed him. The movie is an action comedy and is funny as hell. As much as I want Drizzt, I want a whole line of sequels with this cast and they can have the TV series focus on Drizzt.Reading the article, I don't think the writers were using "emasculating" in the same context you are. This is different that having all the males be constantly rescued by women, never take initiative, and being, in general, a passive beta cuck.
They're going for authenticity. They cast someone with fish eyes to portray a mermaidWhy are her eyes so far apart? Are aliens among us?! I want to believe...
Nah mulan was way worse. Atleast the lion king kept the themes of the original. It’s gonna be dogshit just like all the other live action remakes. The only real question is: will it manage to be even more dogshit than Mulan? Mulan was by far the worst live action remake of theirs I’ve seen. It was so unbelievably bad.
I genuinely want to meet somebody who loves these live action remakes. I know nobody. I've checked in when seeing other films and its always empty. Is it really just China? I can't fathom how people can enjoy something which looks and sounds so soulless.
No doubt. Its so weird because something that big usually has a tangential appearance in my life. I have a diverse circle of contacts IRL and I volunteer/coach kids. Never hear anything about these movies.Almost all of them have made over a billion dollars... My favorite one has been Aladdin. Beauty and the Beast is a close second.
Damn, now you make me want to see a gender flipped Mulan where a GUY has to impersonate his SISTER when the town has to provide a woman for the Emperors harem. The guy dresses in drag and has to constantly deflect sexual advances from the Emperor, fake being female when exposed to the "All women" harem politics (how does he shower? How hard do you hit in a pillow fight? Why doesn't he know about make-up? He learns about the "g-spot", he teaches the girls to act in a direct manner to get what they want, be self-sufficient and not rely on men or just their looks, etc), and, of course, falls in love with one of the other harem girls and has to reveal himself and escape with her.Nah mulan was way worse. Mulan kept the name of the main character.
That was it.
The story about a normal girl finding herself in a threatening scenario and challenging gender conventions became about mary sue who is better than you at everything
Why does Disney hate minorities so much?
I saw a redhead today.

Looks like a bad cosplay.

Yep I'll just stick to the origina....Pinocchio was the last straw for me when it comes to these soulless remakes. I don't think I've enjoyed one movie I've seen. Maybe Aladdin. Or Beauty and the beast. I just stick to the originals.
That forehead

Sure, just make sure the guy is at least 6 feet tall, has a 7 figure income, and an 8" wang 'cause I want it to be believableDude! Can I use this? This is GENIUS! I'm serious!
Got DAMN that is a harsh burn! I'm pretty much over any casting issues at this point because there seems to be so many other things to focus on with this production but just the racial component in the period setting does lend itself to these hot takes. Setting this in a more modern time might have side stepped some of this. More SPLASH, perhaps. Ursula could be an evil supernatural youtube thot that steals her voice to go win some sort of "The Voice" show and Eric is one of the judges rather than antiquated nobility.Obligatory,
Because the Queen is black, Ariel is supposed to be mixed raceWhy is Poseidon white?
Why is Poseidon white?
This is the actual tragedy. Holly shit. These animals look like they are on crack.
